You know Im not a Colin fan surely. But we cant argue with him delivering with the bat and somewhat with the ball. I think he was better at home 2018, remember the tests he pulled out the big scores etc when we looked bowled out for sub 200 etc.

With Kane Im just intrigued as he was very clinical in Eng and UAE at dangling the carrot to get people playing at the ball and that won both series.

With SL, I felt we had plenty and the longer the declaration wasnt called I felt he had gone away from what had made us successful at closing out matches, especially when in Welli if it says its going to hose down all day 1 day out you can be 99% sure it will, unlike Auckland. I feel he missed a trick is all, which is dangling that carrot like above.

This game I had no issue as 6.5 sessions is plenty to bowl a lower level team out even on a batting paradise. So no I didnt rue it this time because, Canterbury sunshine is about as predictable as Welli rain. The only reason he had to bat on was so that we had a semi new ball the next day, so 2 bites off the cherry, which is somewhat how it played out aside from not getting the wickets in the morning, they were very dicey and the late swing was causing headaches, I feel SL were very lucky to survive session 1 today without losing a wicket, but you make your own luck, thats cricket, can go either way.

So really its mostly the Welli test Im not hating on him, I just feel he missed a trick there as 1 more wicket would have changed the next day completely. Sometimes you have to risk the opposition scoring an unlikely score for the win, to win yourself. Thats where I refer to Mccullum with the betting type mentality. Also he definitely didnt have is A game on with the field, thats been well documented in the 4th day.

At the end of the day, even a captain can make wrong choices in hind site, but at the time Im sure he had his reasons to go away from the dangled carrot method of winning a test in 4 days.

I think today he had the field right and he rotated his bowlers brilliantly. The funny thing is hes in an elite club with his batting average and bowling, yet he hates bowling haha.

Waggers on for the 5fa but better be this over as I think Boult will clean them up next over. Lol Kane nearly lets the catch go through his cupped hands :-), good technique though having close to chest saved it.

Love the seam position from Boult, its no wonder he gets so many LBWs, deviates every time 6 inches.

Well done NZ. Hmmmm, so many could be picked for MOTM.

Im going to say share it between Southee/Latham/Boult :-)

4 test series in a row, breaking all kinds of records.

Now #3 in tests, I never thought Id see the day again post Hadlee era. We could get to #2 if we beat Bangladesh 3-0, I think even 2-0 with a draw in there. Not a lot of points from them hence need to win them all.

Cant wait for the ODIs at the Mount, probably the best ground ahead of Hagley due to having lights.

Interesting listening to Debbie yesterday, Hagley is and has always been looking at light, but due to the council they have to be those retractable sorts. Id love that, more games at Hagley. Also Uni Oval in dunners is another Fav.

We are so blessed in NZ to have ultra pretty grounds, some of the non international grounds as well are like postcard quality beautiful. The one in Taranaki, there is another in Welli and Ive forgotten the suburb but its just out of the city, I think its around near the Botanic gardens.

Interesting whats going to happen to Eden Park if they build a new Warriors/Blues stadium on the Waterfront. The home of Rugby may be in danger, time will tell, but its just too small for tests, but I personally think small grounds are better for ODIs and T20s as thats what the fans want, lots of sixes etc.

No one was complaining about the small grounds during the Cricket World Cup thrillers against Aus/SA. People keep saying it's too small for tests but the tests we do have there are generally extremely watchable. And scheduling T20 games only at Eden Park is ridiculous, given there are three games at the Bay Oval alone in January, two within three days of each other. And when Eden Park next gets an ODI, let's not start it at 11am when people who are still in Auckland are working; at least there's some point in going to a 2pm game after work.

It's very easy to dump on Eden Park but let's not pretend that the scheduling has been that flash either. We're basically at the point where fans get blamed for not showing up to games that don't get even scheduled.

Totally agree. If CNZ wants to make money Eden Park is a must, but not at 11am, donkey move.

I like this squad. If Seifert can transfer is domestic to international Id take him over Latham. As commentators said Guptil BLITZED it in England is a given for the WC. I think outside Seifert its just the bowlers being tested, but these would be my lot, given a couple add tail runs. Munro would be the only batsman being looked at for form. Speaking of which, hes out, man that looked 50/50 to me, I think the ground kept that in the hand.

Not sure about our all rounder, Stats still say Colin, I dunno. Corey Anderson.

Bowlers, Ferguson and Henry Id take both in the squad and rotate them, Ferguson in England is getting him more experience and we need a genuin 150kph+ bowler.

Either these 3 games and the 5 India games will certainly settle it.

The coach should include Latham, drop the all rounder and tell Williamson he has to bowl 10 overs haha. He hates bowling but the sad part is hes as good as any of the finger spinners we have. That would be a deep batting line. Wont happen though.

11 runs in the over, Guptil cant play spin and Steve Smith is not a cheat. worst rubbish reputation put on a player ever and has cost him a shed load in the IPL. He averaged 65 in T20 last home season, OMG, seriously, thats a brilliant test average let alone 20 overs and was against spinners. All I can think of is he puts Sri lanka and Ind spinners to the sword. Best T20 player in the world and didnt get a contract, even Munro got in.

Getting out to spin doesnt mean you cant play spin. If you hit 100 in a t20 and get out to a spinner does that mean you cant play spin? NO.

It made me mad, so I really want to see him succeed this season going into the IPL in ODI and T20 against the world class spinners, then they will have zero reason. I personally think he will get a contract this year anyway as the buzz was the IPL coaches were a bit shocked he didnt get a contract, which is clearly discussed with management.

Ive missed his straight and offside lofted drives, that 6 was gorgeous and those 3 4s in a row sublime, when he hits it and he just follows through with the swing like a golf club he just looks class. The guy could block a 6.

Munro ranks above Guptill, Guptill isn't great with spin, well, according to the cricket experts who choose players to play in their leagues. He isnt worth the risk

And their it is lofted off drive for 6 effortlessly to bring up his 50 and NZs 100. GUPPY.

The Guy SMASHED england, very hard in England. Hes been out since then with injury, first game back and hes making Munro look silly for that shot to get out which is what they are testing Munro out for, whether he will be selected or not for the WC, Guptil is a certainty.

Both are amazing t20 players, but we lost the T20 series to Pak without Guptil. Let him play some T20s to get his ranking back.

Munro needs more experience in ODIs to transform his T20 into a longer game like Guptil. I think he can. Guptil is 14 n the world and hasnt played since Eng in ODI. And still 8 in T20.

Both of them in T20 is a big reason why we were number 1 as a team for a fair period, I think we will get that back as well. To be top 3 in forms and #1 in ODI or T20 will be our best overall form EVER in cricket. Exciting times even if its an aging team.

So, there is no spin today, easy batting, we will post a nice enough score. SL may start well or fine enough, if they do, what is their batting lineup like on ODI? Or is it another decent tail which means a lop sided game? Given the rankings and they are in effect bottom of the first tier nations (I exclude WI as their are miles away), might be able to switch to the tennis early

You would think so considering how the ball is going over the rope, but Guptill just smashin the leg break. That wasnt me who made up why he wasnt picked last season, that came from those in the know. But my point with him scoring high and getting out to a spinner is, they were just taking him hitting out at the end of an innings to spinners after big scores, it made no sense to any body who really has watched him play spin, let alone pace. Im sure the IPL is well aware now given the coaches who know Guptil. It could have also been everybody expected him to go for $1m plus which left him out in the cold with nobody taking him. Munro only just got in last minute at minimum rate as well. Was very bizarre considering we were easily #1 at the time.

SL much like the tests rely on 2-3 batsmen, although that could be said of NZ but we tend to convert. Chandimal and Mendis will be critical as Angelo Matthews who is BRILLIANT, just back from an injury, tore that hamstring in the last test, hence why they were all out for 9 wickets. A real bad run for him, hate to see real talent get consistently injured. They do have some good middle order but I think NZ will score 320 and I think thats 60 runs out of Sri lanks current teams ability.

Straight in from Injury and Smacks another ton, I think Taylor is our best all round ODI player but Guptil would be second imo and hes batting #1 which is harder than 4 and takes the game away from the opposition more than Taylor, so I think given their different roles they probably equally as good as each other. I just love those lofted drives where he hold the swing until the ball clears the rope. Taylor is a more technical player. Taylor 34, Guptil 32, going to be massive when we lose those 2. But I cant see why you cant bat to 38 if you are fit and you are doing it for the love of the game.

Big grounds mean big 6s, 105m WOW from Guptil. that is indeed a goody.
