There was talk a while back that VCARB would be bolting some more Red Bull parts to the car in an effort to improve overall performance, so I'm hoping we might start to see a quicker car.

Yeah the talk ahead of the season was how unfair it was going to be having a sister team get all the parts from Red Bull.
They wanted the team to be more independent, but later on want it to be competitive, so flip flopping all over the place there.

The real sad one was Daniel Ricciardo was set to be given the 'keys to the city' for how much he embraced the American culture, but of course he's not going to be an actual driver there anymore so this has become a bit unfortunate.

If he is there, its still appropriate IMHO

It's an interesting question. You'd think Ricciardo might want to stay away, lick his wounds, and not take away from Lawson's moment in the sun. Then again, I'm sure he's had plenty of offers to do hospitality or media speaking so perhaps he might turn up and bank some easy cheques.

I'm guessing one of Hadjar or Iwasa will be assuming the reserve driver duties.

Smart call is to start thinking of the future and keeping your brand presence up.

Mentally I'd not given this much thought and just assumed he'd be the reserve driver, but realise now that was naive.

I don't think being at Austin would do his brand any favours. There's already too many ex F1 drivers hanging around.

Nah they love him there and vice versa.  The dudes a legend from Netflix and rode that horse in etc.  He's a PR star and that's most likely seen him linger on longer than his form would have suggested.

Season resumes in 16 hours...

Will McLaren continue their streak or have RedBull clawed back? Or will Mercedes suddenly make massive gains...

Lawson's first race would be interesting, let see if he can better Yuki...

it would be crazy if he finishes in front because Liam inherits Ricciardo's grid penalty

Interesting to see what the circus makes of the RBR/FIA plan about the adjustable Bib that has now been confirmed.  RBR state that it cannot be changed once the car is fully built but that can hide a lot of scenarios when it could be used as we do not know what RBR define as 'fully built'... either way we'll see if it is going to cause them any issues soon!

Great to see Lawson at the Driver's press conference this morning. Really looking forward to seeing him get behind the wheel tomorrow. I do hope VCARB have brought some more performance to the car during this three week break as the Williams and Haas do look to have improved their games recently.

I don't think it can be discounted that Colapinto is also a threat to Lawson's 2025 chances. Horner and Marko have both name-checked the Argentinean and their heads have been easily turned in the past. I have faith in the Kiwi to do the business over the next couple of months but he needs that car to be competitive again in the midfield to showcase his talent.

So he starts at the back of the grid but has a fresh engine. We are yet to see how many places ahead Tsunoda will qualify.

Last year was thrown in at the last minute, bettered Yuki. This time around there are tracks he hasn't raced on, like last time. he is prepared unlike last time. he can do his best, no real pressure especially with the grid penalty. Yuki however is under pressure. I like him, but his fiery personalty may count against him. Austen je will finish ahead but in real terms will he out perform Lawson??

I'll be watching. This could be Liam's first and final few races if luck is not on his side.

Liam did ok, 1.5 tenths up on Yuki on hards and less than a tenth behind on softs. Yes, its just Free Practice, but on point so far

Some cars finding it tricky, so best to keep on the black stuff if you can
