Handle9:

There's an ELV at the moment in schools rugby outlawing jumping for high balls because of the number of injuries from high balls.

I'd support that being introduced, every time I see a play jump into the air for a high ball, I cringe wondering who will get hurt.

I think jumping to catch a high ball, originally was done because it gives the catcher an advantage as they 'can't be tackled', but it still goes wrong so frequently.

At least they have changed the law to make the risky action illegal.

The gap between a red card for a high tackle and play on is too small. They haven't changed the laws to make tackling safer, all they have done is ratchet up the consequences for making mistakes.

That makes little sense to me.

Why would this be any different than Super Rugby where Robertson and his coaching team are credited with the success of the Crusaders?

If we get a good win then it will mainly be due to the work of the head and assistant coaches. They select the playing team and coach those players to perform. The coaches don’t have direct control of player actions during the game which is why they don’t get all the blame when a team loses. Nor should the influence of the coaches efforts be minimised just because players play with the needed urgency and execution.

Artbloke your hatred for Foster is getting irrational now. You can't blame him for the majority of issues if you aren't going to give him credit for the good things too. If the team loses its his fault mostly but if they win it's the players who deserve credit?

Cane a liability already. That was so easy, our forwards are so bad.

Pretty awful spectacle. Cane had zero turnovers, two penalties and a couple of knock-ons. Completely anonymous in terms of communicating with Barnes.

High tackles are reds one week and yellows another. An incident can't be three weeks + a red one week and a yellow the next. Two games in a three game series ruined.

And the pace of the game being slowed by constant medical interventions and it just being allowed to happen; yet the incident that triggered the yellow was apparently "play on" even though a player had gone down after a head clash while a game of forceback took place around them.

A terrible series but a fitting result. But not one I'm sure Ireland entirely earned as much as we us not being prepped and just ending up giving away.

The reasoning for both cards is pretty easy to understand. Both referees explained their decision clearly. Ta’avao launched himself and accelerated through the high tackle and Porter was passive - he absorbed the tackle. He didn’t throw himself forward and accelerate through. It’s the same rationale for Goodhue not being penalised in the Super Rugby final.

The pace this week was much better with Barnes. He’s by far the best referee in the world.

So I guess the first half was the coaches fault and the second half comeback was down to the players?

Ardie and Jordan about the only players who stood up tonight.

Taylor was abysmal (again), the rest of the forwards went missing, the rest of the backs tried but laboured.
