This is also excellent and summarises a lot of what is wrong with NZR as an organisation.
https://thespinoff.co.nz/sports/21-07-2022/how-not-to-react-to-a-loss-what-nz-rugby-can-learn-from-nz-cricket

I think the second article is considerably more constructive, but given the author of the first, who would be surprised?

The way proposed to have dealt with it seems quite reasonable, except for the fact NZR is already accused of being arrogant and approaching it like that, would likely to be viewed in the worst light anyway.

I don't agree with how it's been handled, and I agree some changes are required. It's hard to know what NZR's motivation for the current communications strategy is. If you take the comms manager at face value, despite the error in judgement, her heart was in the right place.

If the media was constructive, then these type of press conferences are difficult but not world-ending, and I feel Foster is prepared for constructive criticism he might get. I think his post match interview was spot on, the light should have been on Ireland who were very good, and discussions around his future shouldn't really have even come up in the post-match interview, it does feel a little 'knives out'.

From all I have read over the years, there is a genuine good connection between Foster and the players. I feel some attention needs to be paid to the team's culture and player/team connections. I genuinely feel the AB's had a pretty disrupted series, even though it's not enough on it's own to explain everything.

I am looking forward to seeing some positive changes and outcomes.

I suspect the hardest question for Foster to answer today may be 'Why are you keeping your job when your assistants/captain aren't?'

I am not convinced switching head coaches is the solution to the problem, but I can see why people might ask that question.

ROFL.

Which people are you objecting to being included?  Which players should be dropped and who should replace them?

I was initially a little surprised to see no announcement around assistants. Having reflected on that, I think it's not unreasonable they might need a few extra days to get things sorted out.

I'd rather they not make rush decisions and get whatever staffing decisions, done correctly.

The assistants are employees, so there are processes that have to be followed if they are being removed.  Whereas with players, you can pretty much just announce it and it's done.

I seriously cannot believe this, we're F'd

Hookers: Dane Coles, Codie Taylor, Samisoni Taukei’aho
Props: George Bower, Ethan de Groot, Aidan Ross, Nepo Laulala, Angus Ta’avao, Ofa Tuungafasi
Locks: Scott Barrett, Patrick Tuipulotu, Sam Whitelock, Brodie Retallick, Tupou Vaa’i
Loose forwards: Sam Cane, Shannon Frizell, Akira Ioane, Dalton Papalii, Ardie Savea, Hoskins Sotutu
Halfbacks: Finlay Christie, Folau Fakatava, Aaron Smith
First five-eighths: Beauden Barrett, Richie Mo’unga, Stephen Perofeta
Midfielders: Jack Goodhue, David Havili, Rieko Ioane, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, Quinn Tupaea
Outside backs: Jordie Barrett, Caleb Clarke, Leicester Fainga’anuku, Will Jordan, Sevu Reece

So, de Groot in for Karl and Tuipolotu in for Lord and then top it off with Frizell in for PGS.

No meaningful change in coaching I see and somehow the shambles of players that aren't performing are sticking around because Foster and NZR are all out of ideas...

There could be big changes planned in the starting 15 and match day 23, but that's masked until two days before the first test in SA.  Even if that's true, there still probably shouldn't be to much change in terms of the 36 man squad.  i.e. who else should be in there for these immediate high pressure games?

I'd probably have Grace and maybe Weber.  I really want to see a guy like Fletcher Newell, but I think he's probably best left for the end of year tour.  I don't think he'd be ready to play against a team like the Boks, so probably better playing NPC for now.

There could also be changes in the coaching line up that they haven't announced yet as well.

Stevensons criticisms in recent years have been demonstrated to be accurate.

It’s not the job of the media to be “constructive.” It’s their job to ask the questions that the public want answered or should have answers for. Asking questions about whether Fosters job is tenable is a justified question and should have been asked.

This isn’t under 12s with volunteers. Foster and the coaching staff are highly paid professionals with a public facing job. It’s quite literally their job to answer questions in the media.

Some of them sure.

Foster has not been reluctant to face the press or shied from the pressure. It was not his decision to not attend.

Asking in the post-game interview was stupid (multiple times), but asking in the press conference is reasonable.

Was today's press conference not televised? It's usually on the AB's Facebook or YT channel?
