Will it actually be live the whole way through, or will they pause it intermittently for ad breaks a la their Olympics coverage?

joker97: maybe they are protecting the HD sport by not havin HD channel? who knows

There is minimal sport on the channel, so I doubt that's the reason. The bulk of their programming screens nowhere else. It just looks like they're unwilling to fork out the million (or whatever it is) per year fee for HD. Mediaworks are the same with Four.

But many people don't have sky, so  those that do watch prime have to watch it i SD, so Prime will likely want a point of difference between their Paytv HD content and the channel they provide free. People watching cricket in SD may say, I wish this was in HD, I want to buy sky so I can get it in HD.

Not exactly related, but I have noticed that NZs ondemand channels, such as TVNZs ondemand are all in SD or lower quality. However some of their advertising is now in HD. SO I wonder if these FTA channels are buying SD rights only for some broadcast mediums. eg Primes content maybe in SD, because they are only buying SD rights.

Right, what chnace do we have to win?

I watched most of the game last night. Oz was very good, but not great, lost wickets so are vulnerable to good bowling. Their RR to what was going to be well over 350 slid dramatically. India was very tame, so the win by Oz was flattered by India's delay to attack the death, they left that to when they needed 14 per over, strange

So, despite my kiwi bias, I do feel there is more than an outside chance for us. My odds are Oz 1-60  NZ 2-20 maybe closer   Forget the past record, this side is unlike most others in terms of playing aggressive. Ignore the MCG, so what it is bigger, there are WAY more gaps. 6's and 4's will be less, 2's and 3's will be more. Lastly, i think we have the brain to win. No real pressure as if we play passive we automaticalkly lose, so we wont be honourable losers we will play to get the runs. Oz will have to stop us, we wont be stopping ourselves

on paper, they have more formidable batsmen, we have more explosive ones. their middle and bottom orders are superior.

on paper they have stronger bowlers.

on paper i rate them as favourites.

key to NZ win?
if we are to chase, for our top bowlers to take wickets. for our other bowlers to bowl the game of their lives.
if we bat first, for our top order to hang in there and have lots of wickets in hand at the end.

this is not going to be an Eden Park repeat

Ive not been that imprerssed by their batsmen. They lost them all at Eden park, as did we, due to the strengths of the bowlers that day. They looked really good last night then lost wickets regularly and the batting slid. They dont have much of a tail, but nor do we.

on paper they have stronger bowlers.

Stats in CWC15 doesnt show that? They have faster bowlers, but no spinners of note, and like us, one key bowler. Not a lot there to seperate

on paper i rate them as favourites.

Sure, so do I.

Typically the AUS vs NZ cricket at MCG is a gift to them. But this team of ours bears no resemblence to the standard kiwi black caps team of any past era. Thats really the key, this is our best team ever in many ways, the Oz team is the standard top notch Oz team but not their greatest

Floyd's key to NZ win:
* get Warner and Maxwell cheaply
* treat Starc with respect

We got depth too, almost no tail.  But bout time they all fired and not just one or two.

Yep it will eb a cracker and close as we arent scared. Back in the day we were always scared and were mostly scared into submission. Not any more

You mean we have no Chris Martin :D

Anyway, Brendon McCallum declares he will not change the way he plays. That will translate to - Australia will target him, thinking he's easy meat.

Meaning: our success could depend on how many he gets before he gets caught, and after that, Guptill and Kane need to steady the ship ... either for a good score or to chase successfully.

I need to look at what he averages in T20 ... it will be a cracker!

On that note, maybe we need a "Sports" section in GZ ...

It would have been a good toss to lose.

I think if we had chased, they would have know what they had to do, and would have seen that the pitch held no real demons apart from a good bit of swing in the first 8 or so overs.

We lost all our 'power' hitters for Zero runs (Bmac, Corey and Luke Ronchi).

And the others batted so slow that also killed the result a long way out

Except for Elliot, the late inclusion, criticised, who was the only guy to turn up in Oz, and did the job in the semis. I'd name him Kiwi man of the series as he performed when it got serious

at least show a little respect for M Starc ... to try and whack him from ball 1 is suicidal. could have rode him out then whack the rest. but not just big mac that had a brain explosion. the rest went down in lamer fashion!
