Enjoyed yesterdays racing, the underdog winning, helped. Today the forecast is 8 to 9 knots at North Shore, I assume thats ballpark on the harbour. If so, will be a good guide to INEOS in lighter airs, even though they say thats still a problem for them.

I listen to the AM commentary driving home today. Problem I found was the background noise from the boats was too loud compared to the commentary.

Talk about snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory!

Just shows how overpowered the boats are (just before it went over, the only thing Patriot had in the water was the elevator on the bottom of the rudder). I too hope the American boat doesn’t sink. They were opening hatches to look for damage. Hope that didn’t let too much water in.

Lets hope the damage isn't too bad and they can get back in the water quickly. We all want to see racing to decide the winning challenger.

Looks pretty serious.

Looks bad

https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/americas-cup/123974194/americas-cup-american-magic-boat-seriously-damaged-in-dramatic-capsize

It has basically sunk, but they kept it afloat with floats while they pumped water out. Bow badly damaged. The electronics is highly likely to be badly affected. I assume they have backups of that. The other boat has been cannibalised to support Patriot. The options are fix the bow, and if they cannot in time de cannibalise Boat 2.

"Sitting bottom of the points table without a win, American Magic were already facing the prospect of having to go into the repchage semifinal that doesn't start until January 29."

Does this mean they can miss races, finish last and still be in the repechage? If so, thats probably the best option. Get the boat 100% then do that. Rather than chase points and fall foul of a rush job

Barker was repeatedly persuaded to not take that move, but they also said he could not see the shift from his viewpoint, but as you say, you're in front, clearly the faster boat (they dominated speed and VMG) so just bring it home in what were already marginal conditions

They are screwed. They'll probably be able to get back on the water for the finals but Patriot is busted.

You can't. The damage will be due to forces transferred from internal members to the hull.
