However if what the train company says is true and a lot of the problems were caused by people using the emergency buttons or letting off fire extinguishers then you can't blame them for that.

The organisers never thought, "hey what happens if someone does the above things?" ?(no contingency?plans?). ?They had plenty of notice and time to prepare and they stuffed up, big time.

The public did as they were told and utilised public transport - Veolia GM?Graham Siberry should be sacked.

Although the ultimate responsibility is the minister in charge of the world cup. I was disappointed he didn't even apologize. After Wellingtons game went so smoothly, albeit the stadium wasn't full(likely due to the high ticket pricing), it certainly should have have had the bulk of the games in Wellington including the opening and closing ceremonies. It is NZs second largest stadium and is probably the only city in NZ with a public transport system that actually works properly (apart form teh rail upgrade problems).
The games in the world cup don't really start to get good until the quarters. Hope we don't get knocked out again in the quarters.

gosh some people have really short memories. Wellingtons trains failed miserably at the sevens in 2010. I'd also like to see how the captial would cope with 100K people on the train network...

A skeptical view no doubt......
But as others have said, it's not about the game it's about the moment. Doesn't really matter if it's a ball, a sailboat or an earthquake, you can't share the experience if you aren't prepared to either be part of it, or, try and understand why others are.

there is something wrong with the country and education system that's failed itself. lack of hysteria is understandable, but complete indifference and antagonism is beyond belief.

as a country hosting other cultures who'd pay their hard earned life savings to visit your culture, and support your economy, you appear to shun them instead of welcome. and then later complain there is no progress. i wouldn't complain if in the next century people still don't know where new zealand is.

i bet if japan, south korea or romania were to host the rugby world cup the entire nation will turn out to volunteer and help out, if not being completely psycho over the metallic sock basket even though they don't fully know the rulebook. and perhaps even stepping out of public transport to sacrifice for visitors to get around. a bit over the top ... but WOW

Im a bit late reading about this topic, But RWC is a awesome comp and i recommend that all the Haters at least try and watch a All Black or your countrymen's team play its a great game.

I do feel a little sorry that some teams may get their hopes up about winning Webb Ellis, as its only a matter of time before the AB's walk away with the cup. Only competition i see this year is Australia, Which is good it will be a trans tasman finale.

Got the RWC app only issue i have so far is the NEWS bit timing is off. The story may be an hour or so old but it says it happened 13 hours ago. Any one else see this?

My predictions for tomorrow:

Samoa by 40
Tonga by 20
Scotland by 40

I think the top teams will be over their opening nerves and will start to dominate, unlike the first round.

rambos: I agree about first game jitters, though I didn't during the AB's game, a little time for reflection and seeing the other teams do the same, I feel a little better. Interestingly the top tier teams play below par, and the minnows play out of their skins.. You'd think top teams would be used to the pressure.

The team that peaks at the right time will win. Unless umpires are so off form that they influence a knockout. Of course individual brilliance can alter events too... Mmm larkham of 1999 and then jonny wilko 04 but you must say without the team they would be nothing

?Wanted to see a bunch of farmers herding sheep around the stadium did you?? What a ridiculous comment!? From what I can recall of the ceremony there was a focus on migrations, of all cultures here.

Pacifica and European seemed to be well represented in the migration story for a start. And what exactly would you have done? You tell me what is distinctive 'Kiwi' culture and how that might have been better than what we were given, which was a great ceremony IMHO. From your comments about 'brainwashing' I can only conclude that you live in the dark ages mate.

They're taking a punt on doing this though:
- on one hand are they going to get a situation where they would have to deal with 200,000 people again?
I think, and hope, not.
- If they do... really what can they do different... more Trains? (do they have more?) or can they stop people pulling the stop cords and walking on the tracks?
More buses??? From where to where if 200,000 folk all want to be in Party Central?
- IF 200,000 people want to party downtown, it's going to be pretty hard to stop them going there and maintain order...... All it takes is 1 or 2 idiots and we all know theres more than 1 or 2.....

Hey I thought this forum was about the RUGBY world cup. But all I see are people whinging about transport and some other stuff. I couldn't care less for Aucklands transport issue.
Does no one else care about the game, the whole reason this competition is here?
