Interesting Lewis said post quali that his car was setup for the race and they compromised on the quali.

So he now has an uncompetitive quali car and uncompetitive race care.

I don't know why i love hearing his despondent voice over the radio, even got a sad on that the Mclarens were faster than him.

I didnt hear that. The cars were setup with a low drag cooling inlets. But too low so the overheating caused them to lift and coast, George said they lost 4/10 per lap.

Wrong decision but there is nothing to fix

thermonuclear:

""Mercedes boss Toto Wolff said: “I think Max is not in a different league, but is in a different galaxy. The performance is extraordinary.”

Asked if he felt that pointed to Red Bull winning all the races, Wolff said: “Unfortunately yes. You just need to just acknowledge his performance levels are really very strong.”"

It seems I have an ally for the light years comment. :) Like you, I'd like to see closer racing and the field closing up to Max.  I just don't see that, admittedly on the basis of only one race weekend and pre-season testing.  Sure, Sainz was relatively close to Checo at the end but the talk for the past twelve months has been that Checo isn't very good and needs to be replaced to maximise the performance of the second car.  And, Checo was still 22.5 seconds behind Max at the end of the day.

We also don't really know whether either Max or Checo were driving at 10/10th's.  I would suspect not once the 1-2 positions had been established, the engine modes would have been turned down to save the PU's.  Sainz is also a fairly handy driver, and I would contend that Ferrari have kept the wrong one for 2025.

If RBR are looking to replace Checo next season then Sainz should be the guy they get, not Ricciardo.  But until one of the other teams gets a car close enough to Verstappen for him to actually have to push the car properly hard, he's going to continue to cruise at whatever percentage less than 100 he has been driving for the past year or so.

Like I said in my earlier post, anything can still happen this season, I could be wrong and frequently am.  But as I see things right now, the combination of the Newey car and Verstappen's driving skills are an order of magnitude above what the rest of the field are bringing to the table.  Short of a mechanical failure for Max, I don't see him being beaten in the foreseeable.  Looking forward, perhaps Singapore again?  Red Bull will be hoping the RB20 solves their weakness at that circuit, but that's about it currently.

Toto is speaking BS. Odd when 2014 the Merc was 2 seconds per LAP faster. If any team gained 3/10 it would be a party

Checo is good but he's not great. Solid is my descriptor. But he's in front of Carlos, he has a RB20 at his disposal, he is on softs, but he didn't ease away easily.

Third bold, I agree. I feel that Max is an all time great

My profile is RBR, its actually Mark Webber "not bad for a number 2 driver" I like RBR as they have never ever been a speed machine. When Vettel won 4 titles RBR would be lucky to be midfield at the speed trap. I like a few sports, but this is a classic "we arent 10/10 out of anything, but we are 9/10 out of everything"

This article is doing the rounds because it was pulled shortly after go live.
A little too honest for at least one of the parties to accept. Is available now only as an archive captured snapshot.

So there's been more Horner drama. A dossier of the messages apparently that were in question, circulated to senior FIA and team personnel as well as media.

Either way, it's looking increasingly likely that the Redd Bull statement on this was not the final word.

Wonder if the racing this weekend will drown out the Horner noise.

I really hope so, im getting tired of the BS. Rightly or wrongly this noise distracts from the enjoyment of F1 racing.

Interesting quali, Bearman did great. RBR 3/10 ahead of Ferrari and given LeClerc wasnt that happy with tyres, its close.

Alonso amazing

Lewis again off the pace

Piastri shines

EDIT Charles happy with the car, he maxed it out

Was just about to post something similar to what tdgeek just posted...

This weekend certainly got interesting fast, as alluded to above, Sainz surgery (went okay based on his/Ferrari social media) resulting in Bearman getting a drive (had F2 Race Pole but now withdrawn for the F2 weekend due to the rules).

Watched Bearman's onboards & radio during FP3, and he handled the car wonderfully. Was worried for Ollie for a moment when I saw Zhou's crash on the other monitor, but thankfully those Sauber's are neon green so quick to reassure.

Couple of other things, Laura Winter on F1TV did an amazing monologue regarding International Women's Day & F1 Academy during the pre-FP3 show (someone uploaded a clip at https://www.veed.io/view/52bb611a-a652-4dfd-89b7-e3df3e26d990?panel=share). F1TV had been conspicuously quiet about the Red Bull stuff until this weekend, but given all the issues it was nice to see for sure.

and... the Red Bull drama seems to be continuing, Helmut Marko seems to be the next target, potentially getting suspended soon, and Max saying that if Helmut goes, he'll go. Guess if he goes he'll eye up the Merc seat that Hamilton will leave vacant. Seems the power struggle between Red Bull Thailand, Red Bull Austria & the main players is intensifying.

Hmm as the late and great Murray Walker would say, if it can happen in Formula 1 it will

Bearman. He is very very good in F2. Late entry to F1. All he got was FP3, and what middle annoyed me in the commentry was that when FP3 quali runs came about, it was red flagged. Yes he did some laps but no soft quali runs. On that, P11 was excellent.

The Red Bull stuff, Im not interested. Because all we know is that Horner and an emplyee had issues. We dont know the issues. Then she was suspended and again we dont know why. FIA needs to intervene. It could be as mild as a boss and and employee had issues. His fault or her fault. Happens every day globally. If it was that mild its blown out of proportion. Or it could be massive bias, mysogynistic and degrading behaviour. What annoys me is that there is so much news and bias but no one apart from those two, knows anything.

Max wont go, if it means going to a second rate car. If there was no drama, no news and Merc/Ferrari/Aston had a Championship winning car, he will go, as would any other driver

Hamilton seat. Antonelli is apparently the future. But I'd take Alonso, no question 2025.Perfect solution. An ACE driver, not interested long term, ideal to bed the team in while Antonelli matures. Mercedes isnt in a great space, but they could be, but in any case they are a Tier 1 team 2024. RBR, Ferrari, McLaren are not available, Merc is

Not looking good for Daniel Ricciardo at the moment.

Perez has to worry if the another team’s consistently scoring 2&3 and putting the constructors championship at risk. That’s not happening so red bull can win on verstappen alone and he’s safe.

What was the reason for his pit stop taking 20 secs? Did he get Yuki's pit crew?

He lost 4 places with the pitstop. From the cockpit camera it was something to do with the rear tyres.

Not sure if it made too much difference. Tsunoda lost 2 places in the same pitstop and then drifted back through the pack.

Tsunoda is still well out-performing Riccardo which just ratchets up the pressure. It will be interesting if we get to 10 races with Tsunoda ahead of Riccardo what happens.... 🙄

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

How did Norris avoid a penalty for the start!? Unlike the F1TV commentators I thought he had stopped before the lights changed but I think he was then outside his start box. Very lucky there. But then was a bit unlucky with the pit stops having to stay out to avoid sitting double stacked.

Alonso did well to retain 5th.

Magnusson rear guard to get Hulkenburg a gap for the pit was awesome - couldn't believe it took the F1TV commentators to spot it either. I was practically screaming at them about it. And then not be lapped so the 20s penalty effectively didnt apply - just hilarious.  The two penalties he got were harsh. First one... yep a penalty but really 10sec? The second one again yeah maybe a penalty. I actually think it was a result of not giving the place back. A while back F1 said they've leave it up to the teams to sort out and I think we're seeing the harshness they'll get if they dont! So whilst harsh to be a 10s penalty again, if the reason is what I think then I support that.

Bearman deservedly driver of the day (but a mile). Ferrari would have been happy if he just brought he car home in one piece. Points an absolute bonus. Massive kudos to him. Hulk and Magnusson should be sweating and probably racing each other to retain their seat with Bearman getting one of them!
