gzt: Personally I find it disturbing that not much information has been released about the sources and potential quality of the evidence basing the sequence of events and the selected search area.

I can see why many of the relatives are very upset about it. In that position I would want everything to be available in maximum detail to give as many experts as possible the best chance of picking out any missed detail.

You would hope that experts are already there to review any findings, but I agree, there is no transparency. Thats one thing, but when there are instances of its now this, and they actually said that, you have to wonder. The familes want info, but there is practically none to give, so being as upfront as possible with what is known/assumed, expected is even more important

As for believing what you read.. UK media are now in the firing line, with more to follow given the false/misleading information being released from so called 'sources' with no credible backing. (just like the 'leaked' transcript which till now has not been from an official source - no wonder there is all this 'but you said x earlier' confusion)

Malaysia Establishes 3 Ministerial Committees to Work on MH370 Incident

"Malaysian Minister of Defense and acting Minister of Transport Hishammuddin Hussein said (yesterday) in a press conference that the Malaysian government had established three ministerial committees to streamline and strengthen their work on the missing plane incident..."

The first committee will oversee all aspects regarding the next of kin of those on board the missing plane...
The second committee will oversee the formation and the appointment of the investigation team...
The third committee will oversee issues related to the deployment of assets for the search operation...

I personally do not buy the criticism. Yes, there are things they could have done a bit better, but this disappearance is beyond what has happened before. There are 23 countries involved, it's not like Malaysia is doing it on their own and badly.

Their control of what was released and how has been abysmal.

You should NEVER be in the position that a representative of the government has to come out and discredit another representative of the government.

You should NEVER be in the position that a representative of the government has to come out and discredit another representative of the government.

Abysmal? I disagree. They were tranparent, then got burned. Hence the supposed ping that has been supposedly heard and located is now having to be taken with a grain of salt. If they had kept info to themselves, then they get burnt. In fact they have got burnt for that when sensitive info that other countries wanted kept quiet was honoured.

Ranking:

1 (least corrupt) NZ & Denmark
9 Australia
53 Malaysia
175 (most corrupt) Somalia

So the Malaysian government is perceived as being "moderately corrupt".
Corruption results in inefficiency and incompetence - so perhaps the Malaysian government is "moderately incompetent".

It cannot be denied that the loss of MH370 is an unprecedented problem - so it's not surprising that so many mistakes have been made.

If the plane was American. French, British (allowing a more experienced air crash investigation to occur), do you feel we would be any better off, or the families, or the aircraft would have been found? I dont feel so, as the efforts that have occured, good, bad or otherwise are predominantly from countries other tham Malaysia. And I dont feel that Malaysia will have pushed aside technical air investigation help from other countries (Im not suggested you implied this). To me, this disaster would have been little different no matter whose country was named as leading it, as 23 countries are and have helped all through. Certainly mistakes have been made, such as the forced handling of the familes at a meeting a few weeks back, and other stuff. Its not limited to Malaysia as well. The chinese gave some great hard core info on debris early on, then that was false.

Note Im not Malaysian, but while mistakes have been made, I feel they have been taken to task a bit much, given this unprecedented problem, just my opinion.

Personally I feel if this had occured from another country then media access to the people working on the case would have been much better and communication to the direct relatives would not have been so bumpy. More transparent in other words. The actual investigation itself who knows? As a result of that it is hard to make any conclusion. My feeling is that it may have ramped up faster and more quickly gathered resources if more transparency had been available.

Yes, the issues with the familes could have been done better as you say. Although, and note my wife is chinese, calling the Malaysian govt murders is quite a way over the top.
Possible that it may have ramped up faster, but Malaysia is only a small country, with a low level of expertise, while they front the investigation, I would expect there is a heavy level of behind the scenes guidance and help

I got a CNN alert on my phone not long ago. Is that from the Chinese news agency? Elsewhere? Maybe I'm paranoid, but methinks no one wants to say much in case it is false, again.
