It is awesome! but very slow to move blocks... and wondering if my starting point is the same as someone elses. I'm getting the idea that they're being hammered about now.
Maybe Google should point some stuff over that way and see what the geeks can do.

Worked for me.

I did 350 tiles just now. Found an oil rig and support vessel...!

This led me to believe it slightly fruitless to search that area as I would say that the watch crew of both would probably have spotted a 777 crashing nearby....

Is there any way to know what part of the ocean you are searching? I don't really want to waste time searching an area where it probably isn't.

My money is on the Andaman Sea, Bay of Bengal, or the side of a mountain in Northern Sumatra.

I reckon this could be pretty accurate. I heard that the plane could have been in this area (as in closer to Vietnam and East) than previously thought. Hope they take this seriously.

I have also received this email from Tomnod (helped look for the Nina a while ago too) but have had it been so slow it was not very practical. Good idea in situations like this.

Hmmmm,

Didn't it go missing in the middle of the night? How could he tell it was an aircraft? Could it have been a shooting star?

By my calculations using Google Earth he is at least 200 to 300 Km away from where the plane was last seen on radar and there is evidence the aircraft actually turned away from where he was.

I suspect it's crashed on land somewhere back towards Malaysia or even Sumatra. I say this because there has been no debris spotted in an area that has a fairly high level of shipping activity. Interestingly it was reported that the US were searching in the Straits of Malacca area almost right from the start. Makes you wonder what info they had.

Also I'd be keen to know what information they have from the automatic telemetry systems on board the aircraft. This stuff broadcasts almost continuously via a satellite feed. Among other things the engineering guys on the ground can monitor engine health and all sorts of stuff. The level/amount of info being broadcast does vary according to what level of service the airline wants. I also understand that very often this sort data can also automatically go to the engine and or airframe manufacturer.

I'm sure there's information out there that hasn't been revealed yet. Just knowing when the telemetry broadcasts stopped should give some idea of the areas they need to look.
