Regular readers of Geekzone will know that I often refer to Barack Obama as 'Toastmaster in Chief'. Basically because I think that his speech making skills far exceeded the many other skills required of a President.

Way back in 2007 I really believed the 'Yes we can' message he kept saying over and over & I had a few lively discussions with fellow workers why Obama would be a better candidate & president than Hillary Clinton. Moore expresses very eloquently his deep disappointment in what Obama actually got done.

Obama had Republicans blocking him at every turn, however his personal failings such as arrogance & a condescending attitude to others in Washington made him even more ineffective as a President.

Moore says Obama will only be remembered for one thing.

So, is Michael Moore being too harsh?

P.S. Michael Moore is certainly no fool - he correctly predicted Donald Trump would win in 2016. The Youtube named below has Moore explaining to a bemused crowd of people why Trump is going to win. He did another video a few days after the Democrat convention saying the same thing.

Those qualities also make a person well qualified to be a college professor and excellent at making speeches...

Exactly. And one has to laugh at the characterisation of Obama as condescending and arrogant. What is possibly more arrogant than the puerile and routine insults hurled from the misplaced/misshaped backend that is Donald Trump's mouth? And what's more condescending and arrogant than a bunch of uneducated, violent and misogynistic ogres that support a moron like Donald Trump and his cronies' reality-denial views on matters such as global warming, gun control, and racial prejudice in US law enforcement?

It's quite easy to argue that Obama failed to push for the logical conclusions of his convictions (e.g. the closure of Guantanamo and stronger justice system reforms). But those failings absolutely pale in comparison to the existential threat that Donald Trump is to humanity, decency, and the fundamental character of some of the very institutions that he is currently fouling.

Michael Moore loathes Trump yet he was savvy enough to work out what was happening. In July 2016 he wrote this piece on his website:

In starting this thread I thought that if Trump deserves 533 pages of comments, Obama must be worth five or ten?

I think he was speculating/hoping that enough voters from some states might cast their electoral vote for HRC. A forlorn hope really!

Moore is Anti Establishment. He's still living in hope of "Sanders 2020". He despises Trump.
They should have asked who his favourite president in living memory is. I expect that would be Carter.

Americans like "establishment" - they don't like "the swamp" - but they clearly can't tell the difference.

Meanwhile Moore is suffering from a delusion that his version of Anti Establishment Socialism will attract the American Working Class. It won't. It attracts urban liberals who would be voting for the least Right Wing party/candidate anyway. He wants revolution - not evolution.

He despised Obama's ACA. Reason was that the insurance was still in the hands of private providers. Look what happened now - Moore probably thinks that was Obama's fault.

He's a columnist writing opinion pieces - not a "reporter".

After a quick read, I liked this reader comment:

President Obama single-handedly fought a treasonous Congress to create 16 million private-sector jobs, reduced unemployment from 10% to 4.7%, killed Bin Laden, brought 150,000 troops home, kept Iran from getting nuclear weapons, opened relations with Cuba, and provided insurance for 20 million Americans who couldn't get it. And there's plenty more. As for elections, Clinton won by 3 million votes in an election in which Democrats got 55% of the Senate votes and a majority of House votes: the Republicans are in office because of the electoral college and gerrymandered districts, not by earning the majority of votes. Most voters voted Democratic, as they always do.
