I think you forgot the alcohol … there was once a case where the Russian MIGs were not operational because even the de-icing alcohol (undenatured) needed in winter had "disappeared" ;-)

That sounds like a possibly mangled version of the real story. The plane that was famous for this was the Tu-22 bomber, which used a mixture of ethanol and water for evaporative cooling of air bled off the engine compressors that was fed into the cockpit. Since there was a finite supply of coolant, there was a tradeoff between how cool you wanted the air feed to be and how long you wanted the cool air to last.
Drinking some of the finite supply of coolant before the flight didn't help matters.
The Mig-25 also used a smaller amount of alcohol for de-icing of the canopy, but what typically happened there was that the alcohol was replaced with water and then planes were operational but with limited visibility due to ice.

This is what I meant and nothing else I had written ... the alcohol for de-icing had disappeared (and the water content had increased accordingly, so to speak). And as a former - you know - I would consider this not operational in terms of a mission (or was that why they accidentally shot down an civil airplane near Sakhalin Island - they just couldn't spot it?) :-)

Given that the designers would have known how things work there, it's kinda surprising they didn't use glycol for de-icing like everyone else on the planet...

Huh. Well... as you were.

For people on this page discussing the alcohol problem because of the "four enemies of Russia" meme posted at the top of the page, I think you've failed to get the sarcasm in the picture. A cigarette is there because Russian commanders briefly denied the ammunition depot explosion being caused by a Ukrainian attack, but because of a cigarette butt.
It's not an actual depiction of "enemies" but a joke.
