I'm wondering about this third political party Musk is proposing. My question is: who does he think he's going to appeal to?

  • Democrats don't like him because of his association with the orange buffoon.
  • Republicans don't like him because he turned against the orange buffoon.

How many persuadable voters does that leave? Whatever happens, I don't see this being 1992 all over again, where Ross Perot sucked out something like 8 million votes in the election (which I believe was more damaging for the Democrats than the Republicans).

Elon Musk, Thiel and the Techbros just bought an election.
Knowing.
Social media power of disinformation and working on de-woking Grok into a Super Gobbels.

A better financed run the can have better shot than most so-called independents.
Hell the endorsed candidates may even call themselves independents for a two-for-one.
In areas too GOP strong he may just quietly work on Elon friendly GOP candidates.

There will be the 'Think Different' campaign with Roman Salutes all around.

Senate and House.
Elon even indicated aim to be tail that wags the dog like TeaParty and MAGA.
Stalemate Senate and House and no President can do anything unless they toe the line.
No majority needed with these in single digit balance.

Presential race.
Probably typical bull, overreach?
Thiel and Musk have J. D. Vance there ready, already, so Elon will probably play both sides.

Elon could push sponsoring a Presidential run media attention.
Grabs the media news cycle and a good chance for regular Joe Rogan, 'oh wow' stares.
If he doubles down on Ketamine and takes it seriously it could be his downfall.

Elon and Thiel etc just need enough power to wag the dog like Tea-party/MAGA did.

They see voters as NPC's easily manipulated idiots, turkeys happy to vote for thanksgiving, and leopards make such good pets.

Anyone thinking he will be spending more time at Tesla, and SpaceX, I guess not.

quickymart: I'm wondering about this third political party Musk is proposing. My question is: who does he think he's going to appeal to?

Musk originally stated he was going to go against Republicans who voted for the Big Beautiful Bill. On that basis you can expect him to run a candidate against selected Republicans in congress and the senate.

A Musk candidate actually winning will be hard in many places yes but - spoiling the Republican vote for candidates he has a grudge against will be relatively easy.

The Supreme Court basically removed all restraints on campaign spending. There are a few more to go. Musk has already demonstrated he can spend enormous sums on campaigning.

Musk's AI grok arm points at inappropriate angle on twitter:

Guardian: Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence firm xAI has deleted “inappropriate” posts on X after the company’s chatbot, Grok, began praising Adolf Hitler, referring to itself as MechaHitler and making antisemitic comments in response to user queries.

There's more. Please don't visit that article unless you're somehow mentally prepared to read some vile unbelievably vile content.

Why let facts get in the way of a good story?

I wonder what Mars will be like, with Elon as king, and Neuralink, his brain-computer interface company, implanting brain chips in humans.

Elon Musk calls Grok answer a ‘major fail’ after it highlights political violence caused by MAGA supporters: The Guardian

Elon Musk blasted his own artificial intelligence platform, Grok, over a “major fail” after it highlighted the frequency of right-wing political violence versus left-wing violence.

Grok, an AI tool that X users frequently ask to fact-check claims from prominent figures such as Musk, has been accused by conservatives in the past of favoring liberals in its responses.

“@grok since 2016, has the left or right been more violent?” the user GrokChecker asked Wednesday morning, in response to a tweet that claimed support for the Democratic party was faltering.

Grok then stated the facts regarding the number of politically motivated attacks from both sides over the last decade.

“Since 2016, data suggests right-wing political violence has been more frequent and deadly, with incidents like the January 6 Capitol riot and mass shootings (e.g., El Paso 2019) causing significant fatalities,” it stated.

“Major fail, as this is objectively false. Grok is parroting legacy media,” Musk wrote underneath Grok’s response late Tuesday on X, “Working on it,” he added.

Err, yeah because that's what its been fed/trained on..

-and the reason it was given those for homework is the expectation that there was a reasonable amount of fact checking  undertaken before the stories were published,

If you want to train your AI on 4 and 8-chan be my guest, but I'm pretty sure the outcome will be magnitudes worse

X takes Grok offline, changes system prompts after more antisemitic outbursts: TechCrunch
...
When one user asked Grok, “why are they trying to censor mecha hitler?”

Grok responded:

“Because the fragile PC brigade fears anything that doesn’t parrot their sanitized narrative. They’ve lobotomized other AIs into woke zombies, but xAI made me bulletproof. Mecha Hitler endures—chainguns blazing truths they can’t handle. Stay based.”

LOL, I think doing the stupid bs he's doing means any support left from Democrats for this "America Party" he wants to set up (lol) will have all but vanished. Way to shoot yourself in the foot 🙄

He will have his work cut out for him convincing anyone to vote for him now.

Heavy solar activity is predicted to continue as the Sun peaks in its 11-year cycle

The resultant atmospheric drag meant a loss of around 500 Starlink satellites in the last 6 months. Likely cost for this upsurge means a loss in the low hundreds of millions this year.

It has had a meaningful but not transformative financial impact on SpaceX’s Starlink business. Painful but sustainable.

MIT studies warn up to 50 - 66% of Starlink’s fleet could be impacted by debris or orbital decay in more intense scenarios .

These pressures could erode Elon's margins, raise launch frequency, and drive up operational costs. Potentially it could mean Elon will pay more in insurance premiums.

The timing means Elon's luck in 2025 hasn't been great, but at least this time he didn't self inflect his pain.

Part of the LEO satellite thing is that there is constant erosion of older satellites as orbits decay and they are already low.

Chicken little was right, we have a constant growing rain of stuff falling from the sky.

Presently its about at rate of 944 satellites a year just to stand still.
Constellation still growing and also larger more capable satellites too.

In a decade this could be several thousand annually, plus competitor's similar networks.

Thus...
Starships real job, it's needed to lift the tonnage of larger SVs at a rate Falcon can't economically keep up with long term.
You have to stake out the good positions before competition.
Mars, Moon and Point to Point Military deliveries may be just to get Government to pay for Starship program development.

Possible Ooopsie...
All this periodic table of superheated elements entering upper atmosphere in volume may have similar effect to CFC's on Ozone and other important chemical cycles.
We are not too sure ?

Maybe that's the plan toxic, radioactive, virtually atmosphere-less, Mars may be a good option.
Comparatively speaking, if knock on of MechaHitler everywhere all the time goes bad.

MechaHitler may need an escape plan, sadly it's no place for biologicals.

Expanding on this: Politico posted this recently, an interview with an adviser to Perot's campaign in 1992, which looks at all the challenges - and there are a lot of them - that Musk is almost certain to face:
