I do not believe that the death of the brave manager, who may have had to die because of his convictions, should be exaggerated.

The comments aren't making fun of Maganov but commenting on the mafia-like way that Russia is run...

The trademark of all totalitarian systems is that criticism is always "processed" in this way. This does not make the rulers heroes, but poor sausages - at the latest when looking at history retrospectively. The times when a joke could lead to death have been here before - but they still seem to be in fashion somehow and somewhere in the world.

Thus the Soviet-era joke about the best-joke competition: First prize: thirty years; second prize: twenty years, and two condolence prizes: fifteen years each.

An important strategist of military warfare once stated that war is the continuation of politics - only with different means.

So if a party continues to pursue war, it means that it is not interested in a diplomatic political solution. In some cultures, compromise is an outright defeat and a sign of weakness - so it continues.

Like Shakespeare's "kill all the lawyers", that's almost always quoted out of context. von Clausewitz was writing on the philosophy of war and that comment put war on a continuum from peace at one end to war at the other. It wasn't meant as a statement of fact but merely placing politics at a certain point on the spectrum.

Having said that, like all Victorian-era writers he's incredibly long-winded and abstruse so you can read all sorts of things into it, but it's certainly much more than the sound bite it's usually rendered as.

Well, that doesn't change the fact that he wrote it. And if his remarks are still taught today at almost every military academy, in business management and in marketing ...? ;-)

Respect, really not bad. And if they win this war with a paper clip, match heads and Swiss army knives (the real fans know the different versions used from film analyses), then they are the real heroes! :-)

The corporation Lukoil removed their press release. It said Maganov’s death, the board chairman critical of the Ukraine war, passed away after a “long illness.”

They could have at least said he died while testing the window's strength, or acute and short-term lead poisoning.

That sounds perfectly justifiable, Europe is using its economic muscle to get all the gas it can from anywhere it can to deal with Russia cutting their supply (not just the obvious Russian propane but also to replace Russian natural gas), which will affect Rockgas' ability to maintain their own prices.

Russia hunting for microchips made by Welsh factory owner
Putin wants components made by China-owned Nexperia in order to replenish armaments
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2022/09/06/russia-hunting-microchips-made-company-buying-newport-wafer/#Echobox=1662490596-1

Was a FAB Infineon originally owned, Infineon having been spun off from Siemens.
Nexperia was commodity part of NXP, that was Phillips.

""
“NWF offers foundry services to customers with compound, photonics and power semiconductor products,” confirms its Managing Director, Paul James. “We provide a foundry service to a diverse client group, ranging from large power semiconductor silicon-based customers, to bespoke photonics and compound fabless companies.
""

Not just silicon but high frequency GAN products.

British authorities looked at sale and said its nothing special, but in light of what you need to build great Radar, Anti-Radar, plus Optical Technologies, very compact efficient power supplies and such. Well very dual use.
Its not all high speed processors, you need sensors and great RF transistors etc.

Probably not, but if they can sell it for three times the price overseas, or twice the quantity, cash up-front, overseas, they'll either follow the money overseas or raise prices here.

Summer is slowly taking its leave over the next few weeks ... It's already chilly at night here in Germany. We are all excited to see what is in store for us in the coming weeks.

The tried and tested outdoor equipment (from the multi-fuel outdoor cooker for gas and petrol to the down sleeping bags down to -20 DegC) is all ready. We have been out in the countryside with it many times on holiday. I don't think they will be used seriously, but you never know. In St. Petersburg, people also froze to death in the winter of 2006 at home, only we had sent them help then. This time I guess we can't expect that from Putin who is also from St. Petersburg. ;-)

Just remembered one of the many follow-on jokes, still current today:

An inmate gets asked what he's in for and how long. "Political reasons, they gave me five years for nothing". Response: "I don't believe that for a minute, for nothing you get at least ten years".
