I doubt Musk will leave Tesla in either case but it's interesting to consider the hypothetical.

Things that probably would not have happened the same way without Musk:

- Cybertruck
- Powerwall
- Megapack Grid Scale Battery
- Robotaxi
- Cybercab
- Teslabot

Imo most of those would be relatively low key pilot projects. Cybertruck would be very different. Imo many investors would see that as a good thing. On the other side the things that would likely have been delivered imo:

- Roadster
- Scaled down Cybertruck or
- A serious competitor for Ford Lightning

A large part of the gloss Musk brings to Tesla is the power of marketing. That said there is no doubt in my mind that Tesla singlehandedly started and proved the EV industry and likewise the gridscale battery industry.

Without Musk the Cybertruk could possibly be better. And the Teslabot hasn't happened yet. The taxi/cab, meh, Waymo FTW.

Robber Baron News - Elon Musk’s $1 trillion payday ...

The NY Times - Control of Tesla Is at Stake in Vote on Elon Musk’s Pay Plan

Nov. 3, 2025

Tesla’s shareholders will decide this week whether the automaker should award Musk stock worth almost $1 trillion if he achieves a series of impossible-sounding goals *.

Mr. Musk would acquire voting control over nearly 29 percent of Tesla shares if he met all of the targets in a 10-year performance plan.

Musk’s supporters say he may quit if shareholders don’t approve a trillion-dollar package.

Some investors say it’s excessive and would give him too much sway.

a key part of the plan would require Musk to raise Tesla’s stock price by 500 percent

Elon Musk pops his head up trying to make himself relevant again...either that or trying to prove to the world how ignorant he really is 🙄

That screenshot is missing one reply I saw on Reddit:

"Musk: Do you have a better suggestion?"

"What about the non-sexual assaulters?"

The NY Times - Musk Wins $1 Trillion Pay Package, Creating Split Screen on Wealth in America

06 Nov 2025

Tesla shareholders on Thursday approved a plan that could make Elon Musk the world’s first trillionaire *, two days after New Yorkers elected a tax-the-rich candidate as their next mayor.

These discrete moments offered strikingly different lessons about America and who deserves how much of its wealth.

* if he meets ambitious goals, including vastly expanding the company’s stock market valuation.

Couldn’t agree more.

  • The Cybertruck is a joke that isn’t selling at a sustainable volume.
  • Robotaxi is a marketing ploy to keep shareholders engaged for the medium term.
  • Cybercab, a concept that will likely never make it to production (refer previous point on Robotaxi).
  • Teslabot, an outright hoax, fraud on shareholders.

A trillion dollar pay package?!

In a country where 60% of citizens are living pay check to pay check.

Something’s gotta give.

And when it does, it won’t be pretty.

Musk says Tesla needs the package as protection against stock research and recommendation services that he calls "corporate terrorists":

CNN: Elon Musk says he needs to build his stake in Tesla so much that he could become the world’s first trillionaire. But this week he said his aim wasn’t to increase his planet-leading wealth. Instead, Musk said the biggest pay package in history was necessary to protect his company. “It’s not like I’m going to go spend the money,” Musk said on a call with investors Wednesday. “There needs to be enough voting control to give (me) a strong influence – but not so much that I can’t be fired if I go insane.”

Musk said he needs to protect Tesla from two influential (but hardly all-powerful) research firms that advise shareholders how to vote – ISS and Glass Lewis, which he described as “corporate terrorists.”

You don't get a trillion dollar salary package without knowing which way the wind blows:

Trump: "Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here? … Rather than places like Norway."

Also "nice countries, you know like Denmark, Switzerland … How about Norway?"

"Allowing the immigration to take place in Europe is a shame … I think it changed the fabric of Europe … I think you are losing your culture."
