I could not choose - Trump and Palin cartoons

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

The Washington Post - Nearly 60,000 Americans are dead. The Trump administration says it’s a great success.

today

While the Trump campaign would no doubt like to make November’s election about anything other than the novel coronavirus pandemic and the accompanying collapse of the U.S. economy, that will inevitably be the focus of the fall campaign.

So how do you spin one of the most catastrophic presidential failures in U.S. history?

Just listen to what the president’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, said on “Fox & Friends” Wednesday morning:

"We’re on the other side of the medical aspect of this. I think that we’ve achieved all the different milestones that are needed. So the federal government rose to the challenge, and this is a great success story, and I think that’s really what needs to be told."

In this “great success story,” more than a million Americans have contracted covid-19 and 59,000 have died, far more than in any other country on earth. (And those are the official numbers; the real totals are almost certainly much higher). ...

PENCE VOWS TO START WEARING MASKS AFTER FAUCI SAYS THEY'LL PROTECT HIM FROM WOMEN

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Vice-President Mike Pence has started wearing a mask after Anthony Fauci told him that it will protect him from women, Fauci has confirmed.

After seeing video of a maskless Pence touring the Mayo Clinic, on Tuesday, Fauci said, “I knew I had to come up with something fast” to get through to Pence.

Fauci immediately got on the phone with the Vice-President and informed him that “clinical research” had demonstrated that a mask is “an effective female-repellent.”

“I told him that wearing a mask would protect him from 99.99 per cent of all women,” Fauci said. “He seemed very impressed.”

In an official statement, the Vice-President thanked Fauci for his excellent advice and indicated that he would start wearing a mask at all times, including at home.

BBC News - Trump says China wants him to lose re-election

breaking

US President Donald Trump has said China "will do anything they can" to make him lose his re-election bid, stepping up his criticism of Beijing amid the coronavirus pandemic.

In a White House interview with Reuters news agency, he said Beijing faced a "lot" of possible consequence from the US for the outbreak. ...

The Republican president said he believes Beijing wants his likely Democratic challenger Joe Biden to win in November's election.

Mr Trump also said he is sceptical of data indicating Mr Biden would win.

"I don't believe the polls," the president said. "I believe the people of this country are smart. And I don't think that they will put a man in who's incompetent." ...

Should I laugh or should I cry?   😐

Brother, I feel your pain.

But it's not all bad news. The linked news item includes this info:

"Earlier on Wednesday, Mr Trump said he would not be renewing his government social distancing guidelines once they expire on Thursday.

The guidelines - which were originally supposed to last 15 days and were then extended an additional 30 - encouraged Americans to work from home and avoid large gatherings, while advising those with underlying health conditions to self-isolate.

After more than a month being stuck mainly at the White House, Mr Trump said he plans to resume travel, starting with a trip to Arizona next week.

He told reporters he hopes to hold mass campaign rallies in the coming months with thousands of supporters".

Excellent idea. Direct, maskless contact with 'thousands of supporters' will almost certainly guarantee him first-hand experience of COVID-19.

Here's hoping! That way he might take it seriously.

The intravenous disinfectant is waiting.

I totally support this move. He should meet and greet. Be a "man of the people". Hugs, handshakes and kisses. Go for it.

Trump being a dick, episode #9798656908905

Trump being a dick is not of itself surprising nor interesting. But the following is just a stunning demonstration of his lack of self-awareness and profound stupidity.

Earlier in the week, Biden called on Trump to order White House flags to be lowered to half-staff and accused the president of talking more about how he's been inconvenienced by the virus than about Americans affected by the pandemic.

So what does he reply with? The following gems:

“I don't think anybody can feel any worse than I do about all of the death and destruction that is so needless,'' Trump said. “Nobody's thinking about it more. Nobody has spent more time, late in the evening, thinking about what's happened to this country in a short period of time. But at the same time, we have to get our country open again.''

Speaking of the nation overall, Trump said he didn't want people “sitting six feet apart. I want our country back. I want people to go out and see football games and baseball games and basketball and hockey and golf and all of these sports and not worry about getting sick and violently ill.''

Derp derp derp.

"Trump calls newly released UFO footage 'a hell of a video'"

"Trump, who has often spread conspiracy theories, is skeptical of UFOs. In an interview with ABC News last year, the President said he'd had a meeting on the subject, but that he's skeptical the fast-moving objects are anything extraterrestrial."

Holy... The only thing that's worth following up and he is skeptical of it.

Also UFOS are not alien. I mean, he's the President and if the conspiracy theorists are to be believed, he would be the only person who could get to the bottom of the Project Blue Book and let everyone know if UFOs are alien or not. If Trump knew UFOs were alien, do you think there was any way he wouldn't reveal it on national TV?
