USA Supreme Court finds states can effectively direct their presidential electoral college representatives:

Reuters: The justices *unanimously* rejected the idea that electors, who act on behalf of a state in the Electoral College vote that occurs weeks after voters go the polls, can exercise discretion in the candidate they back.

Coincidentally this makes clear the legality of the National Popular Vote Compact should more states choose to join it.

I can't believe that now Trump is blaming everyone else for his poor coronavirus management. Glad I'm not in America right now, there's no way in hell I'd be sending my boys back to school at a time like this.

The Washington Post - Trump’s window is closing

today

All signs suggest it’s closing on his presidency because of his world-class incompetence with the coronavirus pandemic, the protracted economic collapse that resulted, and the increasingly overt racism Trump has embraced.

But it also appears the window is closing on his connection to reality, if it hasn’t already.

Trump called a news conference Tuesday evening in the Rose Garden ... to launch an hour-long diatribe against Joe Biden, attributing a platform to his Democratic opponent that bore hardly any resemblance to anything occurring in the real world.

Biden would “incentivize illegal alien child smuggling,” Trump announced.

He would “abolish immigration enforcement," “abolish our police departments” and “abolish our prisons, I guess.”

Biden’s party is even “calling for defunding of our military,” Trump alleged.

And, yes, Biden’s energy plan “basically means no windows” in homes or offices by 2030, he said, and “cold office space in the winter and warm office space in the summer.

Um, Biden would abolish windows?

I’m not making this up!” Trump said, mid-jeremiad. (Actually, he was.)

He alleged that Democratic mayors possibly “wouldn’t mind” if terrorists “blow up our cities.”

We could go on for days,” he said after 40 minutes. Indeed, the only limitation was Trump’s, and his staff’s, imaginations. ...

Joe Biden’s entire career has been a gift to the Chinese Communist Party,” Trump alleged.

Last Independence Day, Biden attacked the United States.”

Biden is pushing a platform that would demolish the U.S. economy.

He wants to kill American energy!”

He has “the most extreme platform of any major party nominee by far in American history.”

It’s worse than Bernie’s platform it’s gone so far right,” Trump said, mixing up his directions. ...

Oh wow, the clowns at Breitbart will be lapping this drivel up like there's no tomorrow.

This must be like the "crime" that Obama and Biden committed, and Trump (somehow) caught them red-handed. You know, the story that was apparently in all the papers, bar the one that reporter was from that questioned him about this so-called "crime". Maybe Trump gets a different newspaper delivered to the White House, compared to the one that everyone else gets to see.

Robert Hendrickson @FrRHendrickson
Rector, Saint Philip’s in the Hills Episcopal Church

This is an awful man, waving a book he hasn’t read, in front of a church he doesn’t attend, invoking laws he doesn’t understand, against fellow Americans he sees as enemies, wielding a military he dodged serving, to protect power he gained via accepting foreign interference ... exploiting fear and anger he loves to stoke, after failing to address a pandemic he was warned about, and building it all on a bed of constant lies and childish inanity.  ...

I still don't get what the Bible thing was about. What point was he trying to make? Some ridiculous, pointless appeal to the religious base or something?

Just read the Washington Post article above. How the hell isn't he in a straight jacket by now? And to think he is the president (can't bring myself to capitalise that word) of the disunited states.

America, what the hell are you doing or not doing?

And what a succinct summary by Fr Hendrickson. Well put.

From beginning of June. Note that Christianity Today complained that the Bible is not a prop for Trump to use as a photo op.

Protesters brutally dispersed ahead of Trump's photo opportunity with a Bible

US president Donald Trump has visited the 200-year-old church near the White House that was set on fire as demonstrators clashed with police over the weekend. Beginning with James Madison, every person who has held the office of president has attended a service at St John's Church. Law enforcement cleared protesters out of the area with tear gas before Trump's visit. Tear gas canisters could be heard exploding as Trump spoke in the Rose Garden. He then walked over to the church. The protesters appeared to be acting peacefully before they were dispersed by force

A lot of his support base is religious fundies, who will for example ignore the fact that he's a serial adulterer and everything else that's against Christian values simply because he opposes gay marriage. So holding up the Bible, even if he was holding it backwards, is a vote-winner, or at least a faith-reinforcer for people already voting for him.
