The New York Times - Coronavirus Live Updates: The White House pushes to eliminate billions from a relief proposal drafted by Senate Republicans.

breaking

The Trump administration has balked at providing billions of dollars to fund coronavirus testing and shore up federal health agencies as the virus surges across the country, complicating efforts to reach agreement on the next round of pandemic aid.

Senate Republicans had drafted a proposal that would allocate $25 billion in grants to states for conducting testing and contact tracing, as well as about $10 billion for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and about $15 billion for the National Institutes of Health ...

They had also proposed providing $5.5 billion to the State Department and $20 billion to the Pentagon to help counter the virus outbreak and potentially distribute a vaccine at home and abroad.

But in talks over the weekend, administration officials instead pushed to zero out the funding for testing and for the nation’s top health agencies, and to cut the Pentagon funding to $5 billion ...

The suggestions from the administration infuriated several Republicans on Capitol Hill, who saw them as tone deaf, given that more than 3.5 million people in the United States have been infected with the coronavirus and many states are experiencing spikes in cases. ...

Wonderful. The clown's ineptitude will cost a lot of Republicans their seats.

It's a tragedy that over 140,000 people have died because of Trump's ineptitude, but if it gets him out of the oval office that's a good thing. I'd vote for a mouldy turnip over Trump if I could.

It is something to hope for. Reality has a nasty way of intruding on best case scenarios, but just as you can fantasise about being a millionaire until the Lotto numbers are drawn, I like to dream of an American election that flattens Trump once and for all, returns the senate overwhelmingly to Democratic control, sends the evangelical absolutists scurrying, cleans out every self-serving hypocritical duplicitous Republican congressperson, delivers a new liberal Supreme Court following a series of impeachments and scandalous resignations for drunken sexual indiscretions, and, for good measure, a New Zealand election that results in a Labour-Green coalition with the greatest parliamentary majority in the history of the country as Winston Peters is forcibly placed in a secure retirement home.

You can make soup from mouldy turnips. Trump has less value than that.

Oh don't get me wrong, I would love to see the idiot lose (he will absolutely hate that). But what concerns me is he won't go without a fight - "Democrats rigged the election! They stole it from me!" and he drags it out for as long as he possibly can. Of course, after it's all been decided he is indeed a loser, Christ alone knows he simply won't shut up about it and will go on and on and on and on about it, probably until the end of his life.

And do not forget his trump Card (forgive the pun) but his visit to Nth Korea and Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un. DJT was the first sitting President to do this 'Ah You Know'. He is going to get even fatter dining out on that one till he dies.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

This explains what I was talking about re Ivanka. Totally disconnected from problems facing voters (kinda like her Dad).

Also...

https://www.scottadamssays.com/2020/07/17/episode-1061-scott-adams-fake-news-fake-science-fake-everything/

More from one of Trump's biggest fanboys. This (in bold) blew me away:

  • Has Mary Trump ever met President Trump?
  • Legalizing violent crime before a national election
  • Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s calls out anti-semitism
  • Jake Tapper calls out CNN HOAX
  • HOAX: Unidentified authorities arresting people
  • Hong Kong losing financial center status

No, I'm sure everything in her book was entirely in her head, just like all the illogical crap you keep coming up with to justify his piss-poor performance as a so-called "President".

How's Trump's wonderful persuading skills convincing everyone he's doing a "superb" job as President working out there now, Scotty? I hope your income just keeps on declining (along with his poll numbers) as a result of your unending cheerleading of his performance. It's not like you need the money, really, is it?

God I sound bitter :(

You are completely isolated when you're inside the Whitehouse bubble, so obviously completely out of touch thinking voters don't care about a plague, but care about statues, Trump biker parades and South Carolina Trump boat parade

Doesnt help with the advisers he choses to have around him, and the backlash to people who don't tell him what he wants to hear

But let's face reality, Biden has some morals but is an equally useless candidate.

Yeah - but "some morals" isn't competing with "amoral" (no morals).

Trump is actively evil - well below zero on any morality scale.

Let's face reality, a family man who speeds 10 km over the limit on his way home but doesn't run red lights has some morals, but is equally useless as a paedophile rapist serial killer who sets kittens on fire.

quickymart: I suspect he is trying to use it as a distraction but I wonder if it's actually working.

Yes, I expect it's the usual cheap trolling. Even if he loses a legal case on this it's not much lost at all except for the person that lawyers up to bother.

As for Ivanka? My personal opinion, dumb blonde (apologies as I know that's a harsh assessment, but it's how I feel about her) who is totally out of touch with the issues faced by voters.

I do think that's harsh and actually very unlikely. Issues faced by voters? Ms Kushner Trump is not elected and does not have to care about that.

Re the latter: read the CNN article I posted - with some of the initiatives she comes across as tone deaf, especially with her timing.

Joe Biden isn't exactly fantastic, I agree, but I'm fairly sure he'd do a better job than Trump; I bet that he would at least try to, but Trump has set the bar for "succeeding" at doing the Presidency rather low, admittedly.

Now, now. We don't know for sure Donald has set kittens on fire.
