the question voters aught to be asking of their 2 respective parties is how do we keep a straight face and believe that 2 70 year old men are capable of performing the hardest, most stressful, most important job in the world.

These are the probable candidates, selected by the system we have, which has worked pretty well for more than two centuries. The question you seem to be asking is whether the established, legal, accepted way of choosing candidates should be abruptly abandoned if we don't like the result. That is what makes it hard for me to keep a straight face.

Maybe he was.  It goes a long way to explaining why systematic racism is still alive and well in the US, its built on it.

CNN - Trump postpones first pitch at New York Yankees game

26 July 2020

President Donald Trump said Sunday he's postponed his plan to throw out the opening pitch at a New York Yankees game next month, extending his run as the only modern president to not take part in the longstanding tradition.

The President cited his "strong focus" on the coronavirus pandemic and the economy as reasons for the delay ...

sure, they're "presumptive" nominees, the reality that is BS - these are the 2 best people in America that the Establishment will allow to be the President.

The system doesn't work pretty well at all.  You have to be a rich white corrupt old man to really have a chance.

Less than half of eligible voters routinely show up to the polls, and the basics of the process used to choose our Dear Leader is shrouded in mystery for many Americans

Biden was selected by a rigorous process open to a multiplicity of candidates.

So was Adolf Hitler.

I don't know about Biden, but Hillary was selected by a process that ensured that only Hillary would be selected. At the time it was going on friends of mine, lifelong Democrat voters, would send me updates every now and then on how the selection process was rigged to ensure that only Hillary could get in. It's been five+ years and I wasn't that familiar with how the US system works or, to be honest, that interested in it, but one of the things they mentioned was that if a particular state endorsed(?) someone other than Hillary it'd be changed to say they backed Hillary instead. "You can select anyone you want as long as her surname's Clinton".

The US political system is fundamentally broken, which is why they're yet again faced with a choice between one awful candidate and another awful candidate.

The US just hit 150,000 dead.

Predictions at the start of this month were that they were going to hit 100,000 by the start of August.

#Winning.

I don't disagree with you in principle. The system is broken there. It was also rigged to ensure that Hillary got the nomination, which probably should have gone to Sanders. But after Trump won, the Democratic Party was in such a state of shock that it bent over backwards to ensure the same thing didn't happen again this time. That is why there were so many candidates and such a prolonged selection process. It was probably the fairest Democratic candidate selection ever. And in the end, it turned up Biden. The reason was not because he was such a great candidate, but because the world will end if Trump gets in again and Biden was ultimately seen as the one with the best chance of defeating him, which the polls so far bear out.

Biden has plenty of baggage and is not an inspiring candidate, but comparing him to Trump is just trolling the election process in an attempt to sow confusion and distrust. Whatever his shortcomings, Biden is infinitely preferable to Trump, who lacks any grace, style, intelligence, and common sense. In any case, voters will not be looking at Biden. They will be looking at the vice-presidential candidate.

Oh, I wasn't comparing him to Trump, it's hard to think of a non-African/South American politician who could be that bad. But that again shows how broken the US process is, someone as otherwise unelectable as Biden is being pushed because he's seen as the only viable alternative to Trump.

Today's News of the Bizarre:

Local TV stations across the country set to air discredited 'Plandemic' researcher's conspiracy theory about Fauci.

Local television stations owned by the Sinclair Broadcast Group are set to air a conspiracy theory over the weekend that suggests Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's top expert on infectious diseases, was responsible for the creation of the coronavirus.

It's been temporarily pulled after an outcry on social media, but not doubt it'll be back in repackaged form at a later date for Trump fans to digest.

Which US presidents were not born into wealthy families?   Allen Jones, Lifelong student of American history.

Some I don’t know their parents or early circumstances and many married into some wealth or upper middle class status, but ones who would clearly qualify as coming from modest or quite poor circumstances:

Well he has had problems with his hand and or arm in the past. I mean he should be using a Tommee Tippee cup so don't expect him to throw balls and play catch with the other children in the White House or anywhere else. Mind you he can throw MAGA baseball caps.

EDIT: spelling

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

In most cases probable, though not proven. That's around 25 so far, which makes it less than 50%. I'm sure I can find more.
