neb: ... Saw a neat observation earlier today that Trump might have to be "fumigated from office"...

The Exterminator, 11 days ago ...

Reuters - Pelosi says Trump will be 'fumigated out' if he refuses to leave after White House loss

July 21, 2020

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The top U.S. Democrat said on Monday that Donald Trump might not like the outcome of the Nov. 3 presidential election but reminded the Republican president that he will have to vacate the White House if he loses.

There is a process. It has nothing to do with if the certain occupant of the White House doesn’t feel like moving and has to be fumigated out of there because the presidency is the presidency,” House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi said in an interview with MSNBC.

Batman: True. I now recall the bounty for Americans and Trump did nothing.

The alleged bounty. It’s not like the intelligence community doesn’t ever leak fake news (Iraqi Aluminum Tubes, leading to 000,000s of innocent Iraqi deaths and “wasting” trillions of American tax payers money and soldiers lives)

It’s interesting to think about who benefits from releasing such info. And interesting to think about why the Taliban didn’t require bounties to kill occupying invader forces for the prior 19 years)

What could Trump do? There is bipartisan support to make It virtually impossible to ever remove American troops. It’s literally the law that just passed with military budget - National Defense Authorization Act

What should he do? Target the GRU and start WWIII? Many republicans and Democrats actually want that.

All good points thanks

I just wonder what Mr Calabresi was thinking when he backed the idiot till now? Bloody slow learner.

Just remember the voters spoke

Hilary Clinton symbolized a Washington insider, she ran on that experience as a Washington Insider, at a time when a lot of the voting public saw that as a negative. Simple as that.

Voters act on what affects them personally, not what they think might be wrong, or misguided or offensive. People vote on what affects them, not what offends them.

Agreed

Trump's voters are so stupid that I can't believe this argument. They are not intelligent enough to understand "Washington insider". I still believe (and there's nothing, except a nationwide poll, that could give any evidence to the contrary) that Trump was voted in because bigots, racists and misogynists couldn't even imagine having a woman President after having an african-american President.

^ that is great. Who is that lass? I think I've seen her somewhere. EDIT: found in the credits for the video :)

nathan: is there any politician you do like? Or are they all 100% corrupt pieces of crap, Democrat and Republicans? Should the whole lot just be voted out and replaced?

I'm not overly enamoured of Biden, but Christ, at least he has an understanding of government and would have handled coronavirus very differently (some might better) compared to Trump.

i don't know how much secret presidential power the POTUS has but he sounds like he will use every trick his advisors can think of to stay in power until the bitter end. IMO only the republican establishment can kick him out.

nathan:If I could do anything, I’d introduce term limits, ban gerrymandering, try to get corporate bribe donations out, Introduce approval voting, get rid of the electoral college, let released Felons vote, modernize the physical voting registration system, make it easier for other parties to start - Id love to see a Populist party comprised of populists like Dem AOC and Republican Matt Gaetz

You forgot a couple of things: Presidential candidate upper age limit.

AND

FFS get rid of the Lobbyist system which is the biggest (dubious legal) scam operation/system there is. Al Capone was an amateur compared to the lobbyists.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

The Washington Post - Trump’s ‘Delay the Election’ tweet checks all 8 rules for fascist propaganda

A fascist guide to commentary on elections would have eight parts:

  1. contradict yourself to test the faith of your followers;
  2. tell a big lie to draw attention from basic realities;
  3. manufacture a crisis;
  4. designate enemies;
  5. make an appeal to pride and humiliation;
  6. express hostility to voting;
  7. cast doubt on democratic procedures; and
  8. aim for personal power.

EDIT

I don't think Trump is tweeting about delaying the election as a distraction.

To understand Trump is to ask "when losing a game, what would an unstable self-centered 10 year old do, in particular one that lack any self-control, discipline, and when caught gets bailed out?"

They'd complain the other side is cheating and needs to be punished. The rules are unfair. They are not being treated fairly. Everybody is a bunch of jerks. Hopefully Trump won't grab the board game, and throw it up against a wall.

I realise this is just an opinion piece but even then it's something I'd expect in the Daily Worker, not the Wapo. Which is why I read the Grauniad for coverage of US politics....

Why do you think it is not a valid piece? You gave us your opinion, now please expand with the basis for it. Otherwise is just dismissing something you disagree with without actually thinking about it.

The author is "Timothy Snyder, the Levin Professor of History at Yale University, is the author of "On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from The Twentieth Century"" so I would say he's qualified to write this article. So, pray tell, what is wrong there that it should be on a tabloid instead?

Also, I am sure you mean "Guardian" so please use the correct name from now on.

The Guardian - today's headlines:  link

 Here are the top [US] news stories to be aware of from today:

  •     The supreme court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was discharged from the hospital and is “doing well”.

  •     Media executive James Murdoch announced he has resigned from the board of News Corp over editorial disagreements.

  •     Adult film star Stormy Daniels still cannot sue Donald Trump for defamation over a tweet he published about her in 2018, a court has ruled.

  •    The Trump administration has proposed a change to the Endangered Species Act that would reduce habitat protections for imperiled animals.

  •    Donald Trump is in Florida, where he suggested in a press conference that recent reports Russia paid bounties to the Taliban to kill American soldiers was a “hoax”.

  •    The Department of Homeland Security surveilled protesters’ messages in Portland, a new document obtained by the Washington Post revealed.

That sounds fairly similar to the Washington Post to me.  😐  Both are good news sources.
