I mean no disrespect to @sir1963. He's less cynical than I am. But if KidsCan can do it for $2/serve - and I don't dispute that they can - then why not just give all the money to KidsCan and get it for $2/serve rather than $3/serve? We could have 50% more kids served lunch that way. I suspect the answer will be that there are some special reasons why KidsCan can do it that won't scale to the entire program.
Oh, I agree with you. By "cheap" I meant cheap and nasty, designed to fail. The point is even more of these cheap meals will get wasted, justifying "waste of hard working tax payers money" claim an the scheme canned.
I am guessing one of the reasons Kidscan does it cheaper is there is no profit motivation. I think they also get ingredients etc donated too.
When ever I do "perk work" for people its ALWAYS on the basis they make a donation to Kidscan.
