And I only have an US post-grad education, American friends, and have been employed by US companies. But keep your stupid assumptions going. Choosing to vote for someone who is demonstrably so stupid and so unhinged (see: "Thighland and "Yo Semite"), who is demonstrably a gazillion times more corrupt than his 2016 opponent, and for anyone to defend this kind of nonsense as "evidence" based, simply insults the concept of evidence.

The vote for Trump reflects mostly certain simple realities, as evidenced by the fact that Trump's base is more religious, less educated, and likely more objectively stupid (since intelligence tend to correlate with higher formal education attainment on a population-wide basis), more white, and mostly male. He appeals to the stupid, base and aggressive white male of the US who isn't put off by his absolute lack of substance, pandering to the violent, racist and misogynistic tendencies prevalent amongst them, and those "people's" tendency to "other" other racial groups or people with whom they perceive little affinity. They are also frankly desperately trying to claw back past economic "glories" that were mostly the result of post-WWII boom and will never again return in the age of globalisation.

There's a reason why increasingly many reasonable Presidential scholars view Trump as one of the worst Presidents ever, which can be established with a simple Google search. But we should all keep pretending that some evidence supports that voting Trump is a reasonable choice/reason-based behaviour -- at least according to some!

We don't have to pretend, you've actually pointed out that it's a reasonable choice for some.

But if you take my theory to its conclusion, the jobs of those Trump voters simply aren't going to come back. They might be motivated by the belief that the jobs will come back but what evidence is there that Trump's original policies would have enabled this? There's an interview with Jeffrey Sachs on CNBC's YT channel where he postulated (it's no great surprise on one level) that Trump's handling of the pandemic would have only sped up the permanent destruction of low end jobs.

Even Trump's tax break is not. It's just delaying it for next year. Then it will have to be repaid in full or taxed as income. Either way people voted on their own doom.
