nathan:

what evidence is speaking for itself?

The evidence is American voters are sick of endless wars that bleed this country dry, and they're sick of globalization - things Hilary was all in on, Obama/Biden had their chance with "Hope and Change" and didn't deliver

I'm assuming you've not actually talked to many American voters?

Keep the pretense that you are not a closet Trump fan going. It's working out real well.

And I only have an US post-grad education, American friends, and have been employed by US companies. But keep your stupid assumptions going. Choosing to vote for someone who is demonstrably so stupid and so unhinged (see: "Thighland and "Yo Semite"), who is demonstrably a gazillion times more corrupt than his 2016 opponent, and for anyone to defend this kind of nonsense as "evidence" based, simply insults the concept of evidence.

You want to think everyone's an idiot, you're welcome to your little echo chamber.

The vote for Trump reflects mostly certain simple realities, as evidenced by the fact that Trump's base is more religious, less educated, and likely more objectively stupid (since intelligence tend to correlate with higher formal education attainment on a population-wide basis), more white, and mostly male. He appeals to the stupid, base and aggressive white male of the US who isn't put off by his absolute lack of substance, pandering to the violent, racist and misogynistic tendencies prevalent amongst them, and those "people's" tendency to "other" other racial groups or people with whom they perceive little affinity. They are also frankly desperately trying to claw back past economic "glories" that were mostly the result of post-WWII boom and will never again return in the age of globalisation.

There's a reason why increasingly many reasonable Presidential scholars view Trump as one of the worst Presidents ever, which can be established with a simple Google search. But we should all keep pretending that some evidence supports that voting Trump is a reasonable choice/reason-based behaviour -- at least according to some!

We don't have to pretend, you've actually pointed out that it's a reasonable choice for some.

But if you take my theory to its conclusion, the jobs of those Trump voters simply aren't going to come back. They might be motivated by the belief that the jobs will come back but what evidence is there that Trump's original policies would have enabled this? There's an interview with Jeffrey Sachs on CNBC's YT channel where he postulated (it's no great surprise on one level) that Trump's handling of the pandemic would have only sped up the permanent destruction of low end jobs.

Even Trump's tax break is not. It's just delaying it for next year. Then it will have to be repaid in full or taxed as income. Either way people voted on their own doom.

pvjones: Biden’s VP choice must be getting close.

Should be Thursday your time

Kamala Harris

Should fit in well, Biden is the architect of the Prison Industrial Complex and the 1994 Crime Bill, that fills up for-profit private prisons with disproportionately colored people on drug charges

Kamala smokes weed, but prosecuted colored people for it while AG of California, also regularly refused to prosecute Police for murder/manslaughter, and hid evidence that would let an innocent man in prison for life, out

Fun times

I imagine the news media in the USA will enjoy doing real live interviews with the VP running mate, instead of the totally scripted question and reply via teleprompter ‘interviews‘ that Joe Biden has been doing.

@Nathan, I'm trying not to get personal

Since you're based in the US, since this forum is based on the other side of the world, perhaps you should look at forums closer to your home.

You seem to be trolling.

Just saying.

I would say that being closer to the action gives him just as much right, if not more, to comment in this thread.

However, Biden’s choice of VP is probably better discussed in the thread dedicated to him.

Well said. Pretty much sums up what I've come to believe about America's 'culture' over the last four years, that around a third of its citizens are cast from the same mold as their despicable leader. .

The issue I think is less "trolling" than the intellectually dishonest re-phrasing of Trump taglines whilst persistently acting like someone isn't a defender of those values and concepts.

Edit: typo

I still vote for trolling. This is exactly what a troll would do - try to spread a sense of despair and hopelessness and lack of trust in the process by suggesting both sides are equally bad/corrupt/evil/etc. so it makes no difference what the vote is so why bother voting at all. Score another win for Putin.

Another Putin win?  If you're talking about Russiagate - there was no first win, Russiagate is Dem hysteria that drowns out common sense.

Why would a troll, be trying to stop American voters from voting, be in a NZ forum?

Anyway, how can I be a troll, I'm not flaming, I'm not being inflammatory or off-topic, I'm not anonymous or making pointless arguments.

I don't know why you would want to shoot the messenger - ignorance is most definitely not bliss, and being uninformed is being unformed.  Not talking about how the political establishments are bad/corrupt/evil/etc doesn't stop them from being bad/corrupt/evil/etc, instead the opposite

That there was Russian interference in the last election has been established beyond a shadow of a doubt for anyone who's not a tinfoil denier. Really it's time you stop polluting this forum with rubbish.
