Keep the pretense that you are not a closet Trump fan going. It's working out real well.

And I only have an US post-grad education, American friends, and have been employed by US companies. But keep your stupid assumptions going. Choosing to vote for someone who is demonstrably so stupid and so unhinged (see: "Thighland and "Yo Semite"), who is demonstrably a gazillion times more corrupt than his 2016 opponent, and for anyone to defend this kind of nonsense as "evidence" based, simply insults the concept of evidence.

You want to think everyone's an idiot, you're welcome to your little echo chamber.

Calling voters idiots is the type of thing that causes politicians to lose.  If you cast your mind back to 2016, the issues I described were all clear policy differences Trump ran on vs Hilary.  They are actual things that affect voters, not some silly reason like Hilary is a women.

I've put forward some actual reasons why he won, you say my reasons are nonsense, but you don't say why, or present an alternative reason.

kingdragonfly: @Nathan, I'm trying not to get personal

Since you're based in the US, since this forum is based on the other side of the world, perhaps you should look at forums closer to your home.

You seem to be trolling.

The issue I think is less "trolling" than the intellectually dishonest re-phrasing of Trump taglines whilst persistently acting like someone isn't a defender of those values and concepts.

Edit: typo

This is a discussion forum right?  Its ridiculous to suggest I'm defending Trump, pointing out why he won cannot be construed as support for him.

Y'all seem to want to pretend Trump is the cause, not just a symptom

The Neoliberal Dems want to avoid the conversation of how we got here, of how those stupid voters could vote for an idiot like Trump

They don't want to reckon with the fact that 8 years of Obama, which was supposed to transform this country in a progressive way, is followed immediately, for at least 4 years, of Trump, but also the loss of state legislatures and governorships, almost the destruction of the Dem party under Obama

They want to just pretend Trump came out of nowhere and they had nothing to do with it

There is no way things can get materially better for American workers when Trumps opponent is running on returning things to the status quo

@nathan let's make this clear then: you have no problem with Trump winning a second term? Do you want Trump to win a second term? Do you support Trump's current policies?

He basically hasn't fulfilled any of the populist policies, I've previously mentioned, that he campaigned on, much like the previous few Presidents before him.  I think the trade and tarriffs policies and some of the immigration changes have been positive for American workers.

Since American voters literally cannot be wrong, if they vote for Trump they vote for Trump.  Personally I will not be voting for him whatsoever.

I'm yet to decide whether I vote Biden or 3rd party like Green or Libertarian

I also don't buy into the vote-shaming mentality that by not voting for Biden, I'm supporting Trump.

It wasn't competitive in the eyes of this Democratic primary voter.

Biden was polling terribly before Super Tuesday, so terribly Bloomberg and his billions are parachuted in 1/2 way thru to try to stop Bernie, then the DNC and Obamas hidden hand are behind the other candidates coalescing and endorsing Joe

The corporate and political establishment got nervous about working people standing up - the establishment chose the establishment candidate.

Does somebody hear something? A faint bla bla sound? Nah, it must be just the wind. Ignore it and move on.

I've literally described what I saw happening, and I followed the Democratic primary process closely, and I voted in that same Dem primary election

Why not say what you find incorrect about what I observed, instead of calling me names?

pvjones: The TV channel sends the questions to the Biden team a day or two before the interview. Imagine Biden trying to do a live interview with Radio NZ, it would be a train wreck!
This is pretty common for interviews. When they contact someone for comment on something they first call/email to let them know and get up to speed on the topic, then arrange for a time for the interview. In my case by then I've got a page of notes ready to refer to to make sure I hit the relevant points. If they just called me out of the blue and said "you're live!" the value of the interview would drop drastically. For politicians I can see that they'd need more time in order to get their researchers to provide useful answers. Asking a doctor to comment on an outbreak of lurgy is one thing, asking a politician to comment on the same outbreak requires giving them a bit of time to sort out what their policy on the topic is.

the reporters are only allowed to ask the softball questions, on the implicit or implied threat of not being provided future access to the candidate, once they become President.

That would sink the career of a mainstream media cable news reporter

The Post Office Is the New Battleground for Trump's War on Mail-In Voting

VICE News

President Trump is busy attacking mail-in voting, and the Postal Service's ability to handle ballots in the upcoming COVID election. Meanwhile, his hand-picked Postmaster General Louis DeJoy faces scrutiny for appearing to undermine the workflow of the USPS at this critical time.

Postal workers in Milwaukee tell VICE's Aaron Gordon about how the Postmaster General's new orders are causing delays. But, they are not worried USPS can't handle the election, or that DeJoy will grind them to a halt. They're worried that Trump will destroy peoples' confidence in their ability to handle the election.

Forbes: Michael Cohen Says Forthcoming Trump Tell-All Reveals ‘Golden Showers’ At Vegas Sex Club, Tax Fraud And More

President Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer Michael Cohen released the foreword to his forthcoming tell-all about the president, which makes unflattering allegations about Trump’s personal life and presidential campaign, including that he participated in “golden showers in a sex club in Vegas,” engaged in tax fraud and “cheated in the election, with Russian connivance.”

  • In the foreword for Disloyal, Cohen says, “From golden showers in a sex club in Vegas, to tax fraud, to deals with corrupt officials from the former Soviet Union, to catch and kill conspiracies to silence Trump’s clandestine lovers, I wasn’t just a witness to the president’s rise—I was an active and eager participant.”

  • Cohen claims that Trump “colluded with the Russians, but not in the sophisticated ways imagined by his detractors,” adding the Mueller investigation “was not a witch-hunt” because Trump “had cheated in the election, with Russian connivance.”

  • The foreword also says that Cohen lied to Trump’s wife, Melania, to hide affairs and that Trump “has no true friends because he “lived his entire life avoiding and evading taking responsibility for his actions.”

  • Trump’s attorney’s have tried to stop the book’s publication, and a judge ruled last month Cohen was retaliated against by the Justice Department over the book’s publication.

  • There is no official release date, but Cohen has said he wants the book to come out before the November election.

Washington Post - Postal Service warns 46 states their voters could be disenfranchised by delayed mail-in ballots

    today    [EDIT: new link]

Anticipating an avalanche of absentee ballots, the U.S. Postal Service recently sent detailed letters to 46 states and D.C. warning that it cannot guarantee all ballots cast by mail for the November election will arrive in time to be counted - adding another layer of uncertainty ahead of the high-stakes presidential contest.

The letters sketch a grim possibility for the tens of millions of Americans eligible for a mail-in ballot this fall: Even if people follow all of their state’s election rules, the pace of Postal Service delivery may disqualify their votes. ...

Calling voters idiots is the type of thing that causes politicians to lose.

A lot of US voters are idiots, Republicans disproportionately so. Take for example this NPR story:

And yet, more than a third of Americans (35%) say they won't get vaccinated when a vaccine comes available; 60% say they will [...] Democrats are 23 points more likely [to get vaccinated] than Republicans (71% to 48%).

In other words even when a vaccine becomes available, Republicans will make sure it won't be truly effective because they'll sabotage herd immunity. What term other than "idiot", or synonyms like "moron" and "imbecile", would you use to describe these people?

Better not to feed the troll. He has been given every opportunity to express and defend his ideas here. People have made an effort to interact with him seriously. Now he is just spouting repetitive static. Better to ignore and move on.

The Cut: How Would You Even Begin to Explain This Space Force Tweet?

    Wednesday Tweet:

"Let me ask you a question: Can you imagine your loved ones coming down from the attic with your medals, achievements and honors asking about the time you shaped the strategic environment?

How would you even begin to explain that–by being part of the shaping."

    From the story:

Stop what you're doing and look around. Ask yourself, "did I just use space?" The American way of life depends on space.

Yup, especially the space between the ears of the voters.

The Guardian - Obama denounces Trump bid to deter voters with attack on post office

    14 August 2020

In response to the growing crisis in the USPS, Obama - who has generally carefully avoided attacking Trump directly - launched a remarkable broadside against his successor.

In a podcast with his former campaign manager, Obama said: “What we’ve seen in a way that is unique to modern political history is a president who is explicit in trying to discourage people from voting.
What we’ve never seen before is a president say, ‘I’m going to try to actively kneecap the postal service to encourage voting and I will be explicit about the reason I’m doing it.
    ’ ”

Obama added: “That’s sort of unheard of.” ...
