To be honest, I didn't even know they were getting married until I heard about it yesterday - not really a case of "the media hyping it up"; if they had we would have known about it for months beforehand.

As to "she is despised by a significant proportion of the population" I don't believe that's accurate either. Yes, I accept that some of the population don't like her, but how many are you referring to? 50%? 40? 30? 20? 10? 1?

People got sad and angry about lockdowns. Had she been lax with lockdowns she would be blamed for the many many deaths. The populous didn't iike lockdowns so by default they dont like her. Whinging Poms have nothing on us.

In my opinion she is the most polarising PM since Robert Muldoon. For some she can walk on water while on the other hand she is absolutely detested by others. I'm not sure either side of the spectrum realises there could be another way to see Jacinda Ardern.

And what would that other way be? That she was a capable leader who made mistakes but did a pretty good job under very difficult circumstances? How many other leaders have had to steer the country through the multiple disasters she had to contend with? It is easy (and cheap) to snipe at her after the fact. Why is it so hard for some people to give her credit where it is due?

Anyway, she worked hard, did the best she could, and had the decency to resign when she felt she couldn't do more. Let the woman have a life now for christake!

Jacinda and Clarke deserve to be able to enjoy their wedding celebrations with their friends without the interference of these people. To avoid the unwanted attention they should have stayed below the radar and avoided all the pre nuptial publicity. By allowing the media to hype it up they have made themselves a target.

Bigger media " celebrities " have managed to keep similar events out of the headlines and I'm sure Jacinda could have too.

How did they 'allow it'? The venue location was pretty obvious to most people who have been to the Bay and it's overlooked by one of the major sight-seeing destinations in the District.

It would have been immediately obvious to anyone up there that something was happening.

Do you think they should have had it in the underground car park behind the Crown Hotel?

For the last week or so there's been headline articles on various Internet news sites about something to do with the up coming nuptials. It was pretty hard not to know it was happening and where.

While we slag off the media I'm pretty sure if Jacinda and Clarke had wished to keep below the radar they could have said so to the media  and the media would have obliged.

Sure the venue is in prominent location. This isn't the only wedding to take place there and we haven't heard about all the others that have. Without all the media coverage this would have just been another wedding.

Now I think back on it I think I might have seen something on Friday, but that's the earliest I heard about it - and I check news sites every single day.

I also check news sites more than once a day and only learned about it on Friday. Maybe the conspiracy sites keep closer tabs on her movements.

I found out about the wedding about ten days before because a friend is a celebrant and told us in a chat group this was the biggest mystery in their world "who is going to be the celebrant?"

Didn't see anything in the news until three days before the wedding.

100% to the above. I read the news daily, saw an article a few days ago that there are finally tying the knot. A perfectly normal and standard media article. The only frenzy seems to be from some here

They are getting married Saturday. They got married Saturday. Couple of expected media photos. Story over. Its that simple.

I thnk it is like that joke about vegans. "You don't need to ask, tell will tell you very early on"

Similarly, no need to ask if one dislikes the ex Prime Minister. They will inject it into a conversation point early on, for no apparent reason whatsoever.

My view of this whole thing is people who have strong opposing position of how life should be treated, how people should treat each other, with an added sprinkle of misogyny. Almost like the MAGA crowd.

Other than puff pieces in the media the only people I can recall in recent times who speak about her in a positive manner are here on Geekzone and those are a subset of the total people on Geekzone. Outside of here I can't recall hearing anyone saying they like her.

You obviously never read any foreign media, her actions were positively commented on around the world.

Unlike the current shower of s**t who got slammed immediately around the world for making it easier to sell tobacco.

When we were overseas in May/June last year, many foreigners (Americans) remarked how lucky we were to have her as our PM. Whilst I don't wholly agree with that sentiment, I don't wholly disagree either. There were times when she did well, and there were times where she didn't. I quite happily acknowledged both aspects of her tenure as PM.

Unfortunately, the hard left will never acknowledge any positive achievements of a right leaning party, and a hard right will never acknowledge any positive achievements of the left. There is an awful wide middle ground however that is capable of both, the problem is, the far right/left are usually so vocal in the media, its all we hear about.

So she got married, congratulations and I hope they enjoy their lives together, but I won'd be rushing to the checkout stands to buy up the lastest womens weekly to see all the wedding snaps

...any positive achievements of a right leaning party...

Such as? (I'm referring to Luxon and co with that query). Do you mean things like stopping the anti-smoking programmes? Removing Maori from road signs? Cancelling the clean car credit? Reinstating 90-day firings?

These are top-shelf, grade A priorities for all Kiwis? Really?

Okay, I'm going off-topic here, sorry.

I'm not sure if that was a tongue in cheek comment. You just proved my point.

That you only see the good stuff and aren't seeing the really bad things the ex PM did to New Zealand, as he predicted.

I will list these bad things here to help you understand :

1.
