  • Of course 8 years of Obama-Biden created Trump, that's undeniable - he didn't magic up out of nowhere.  Last 4 consecutive elections have been change elections, voters asking for change, rejecting the status-quo, and still not getting it.  If Obama didn't choose Hilary to continue the Neoliberal Project, a reality-tv star DC outsider, who listened to Americans rejecting the TPP, NAFTA and globalism, wouldn't have won office.

Probably not just 8 years of Obama/Biden but they were the straw that broke the camels back.

I believe the american voter was looking for a change from the "established" political leadership they had been saddled with for so long and Trump offered that. So, Yes, Trump is in office because of the likes of Obama. I also think the american voter got more than they bargained for when they elected Donald Trump.

I have friends in the US and they see Trump as the right person for the job. I'm not sure I agree with them but he is their President not mine.

Interestingly we heard all about Trump sending in the troops to a couple of places to guard Federal property but we are hearing nothing about the likes of this Portland Riots

You have to wonder about the balance in the reporting we see in this country.

Regarding the sovereign Trump $2, it's debatable whether it's legal tender, since mangled US money is still recoverable

"Lawful holders of mutilated currency may receive a redemption at full value when:
  • Clearly more than 50 percent of a note identifiable as United States currency is present, along with sufficient remnants of any relevant security feature and clearly more than one-half of the original note remains; or,

  • Fifty percent or less of a note identifiable as United States currency is present and the method of mutilation and supporting evidence demonstrate to the satisfaction of the Treasury that the missing portions have been totally destroyed."
USA Today: Dog chewed up your cash? What to do

There's also the case whether you'd want to use a sovereign $2 to on its face value.

For example, a US silver dollar could be used for its face value of $1, but it's worth at least $25 in a coin shop.

Anyone can cherry-pick data to make a point. New Zealand media are rightly primarily concerned with New Zealand news. International coverage is assessed for its likely interest to NZ readers. Our media have covered major protests in Portland and elsewhere. The 'riots' you refer to above are part of ongoing protests that have been occurring on an almost nightly basis for the past months. If you read the ABC article, they were not especially remarkable compared to other actions that have taken place, so not really sufficiently newsworthy for major reporting here. The article points out that they were declared 'riots' by police to enable the release of counter-measures, but the actual disturbances were not that exceptional. There have been, and continue to be, almost nightly protests in several major US cities. This is just another in a long list.

At some point and for some reasons, riots are justifiable.

The US has a history since (WW2) of inciting and supporting civil unrest in other countries whose regimes they want to overthrow.  And they've done worse than that.

There have been cases where supposed "BLM protestors" committing violent acts or involved in property destruction have been exposed as far-right/racist sympathisers. Anyway, most of the extreme protest actions could have been avoided if the fundamental issues had been addressed with "leadership".  Instead, the administration poured fuel on the fire - hardening support from the "loyal".  That's not an accident or omission - it's a tactic.

What reality does this moron live in, where 1000 deaths a day is "an incredible job"?

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/health/coronavirus/300087090/coronavirus-donald-trump-calls-out-nz-again-says-us-is-doing-an-incredible-job-against-covid19

We're still on only 22 fatalities from the last lockdown! Jesus, at least we don't have thousands dying from coronavirus and thousands more catching it every day.

Is he actually doing anything about it? Or just rolling out feelgood slogans in the hope that it might just go away?

The Guardian: St Louis couple who pointed guns at protesters to speak at Republican convention

Patricia and Mark McCloskey said they feared for their safety
Couple charged over June incident involving "Black Lives Matter" protesters

Donald Trump has confirmed he will address the Republican convention next week from the White House, a controversial choice.

As the Democratic convention proceeds with calls for an end to racial divides, news of another Republican convention speech by a couple who became infamous for taking a stand outside another grand house may attract further debate.

In a racially charged incident in late June, Patricia and Mark McCloskey, who are white, were pictured outside their mansion in St Louis, pointing guns at Black Lives Matter protesters heading for the mayor’s house nearby.

Mark McCloskey held an assault rifle, Patricia McCloskey a handgun. The couple, both lawyers, said they feared for their own safety and were defending their home.

Vanity Fair: Bigoted, Trump-approved candidate Laura Loomer shows where the GOP is headed

The president celebrated the outspoken Islamophobe’s Republican primary win in Florida, along with a “future Republican Star”—and QAnon conspiracist—in Georgia. QAnon’s followers, he told reporters Wednesday, “love our country.”

In 2018, Laura Loomer, far-right conspiracy theorist, frequent laughing stock of the internet, and self-described “#ProudIslamophobe,” handcuffed herself to the outside of Twitter’s office building in New York for more than two hours. The stunt was aimed at pressuring the website to reinstate her Twitter account, as she had been banned on the platform

...Loomer’s offline bigotry includes walking up to people she assumes are Muslims to ask them to disavow terrorist attacks and famously struggles to get anywhere in New York City. “I’m late to the NYPD press conference because I couldn’t find a non Muslim cab or @Uber @lyft driver for over 30 min! This is insanity,” she wrote in a 2017 tweet, which was just one of many similar racist outbursts that culminated in the 27-year-old being banned from PayPal, Uber, Lyft, and even Uber Eats.

Less than two years later, there is at least one notable institution still in her corner. “Great going Laura,” tweeted Donald Trump in response to the news that Loomer, who is currently running for Florida’s 21st Congressional District, had won the race’s Republican primary.

...The president’s congratulatory tweets are notable for more reasons than just his seeming support for an out-and-out racist with long shot congressional aspirations—which is not entirely surprising given that his 2016 campaign revolved around a proposed ban on all Muslims from entering the U.S.—as the South Florida district Loomer is hoping to seize control of is home to his “Winter White House,” i.e. Trump’s Palm Beach property and Mar-a-Lago resort.

Trump did not weigh in on the race until the six-candidate primary process was over, but the president’s close congressional ally Representative Matt Gaetz did throw his support behind fellow millennial Loomer. When pressed Wednesday for comment on the president’s tweets, White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany avoided addressing Loomer’s views and racist meltdowns...

Who'd have guessed Steve Bannon could have turned out to be a crook?

The crooked evil POS allegedly stole money from donors who wanted to fund "Trump's Wall".

The wall hasn't been built, Hilary isn't in prison, and now all three of Trump's 2016 campaign managers have been indicted.

And people giving money to build a wall? Probably this century's version of people buying a bridge...

The Washington Post - The 5-Minute Fix

today

Trump’s former chief strategist, a top adviser both on the campaign and in the White House, was arrested Thursday and indicted on charges that he essentially stole money from a GoFundMe campaign to help build Trump’s border wall. ...

Trump’s son Donald Trump Jr. once praised this project.

He visited the area where the wall was apparently being built with these funds, near El Paso, last year.

This is what capitalism is all about. This is private enterprise at its finest. Doing it better, faster, cheaper than anything else. What you guys are doing is amazing,” Trump Jr. said, as the El Paso Times reported. ...

Isn't that funny that the DoJ keeps arresting people on the Trump side but there's nothing going on against the people on the side he keeps accusing of being the most corrupt presidency in American history?

To have the architect of the wall plan arrested for enriching himself by stealing donations by MAGA morons? Trump should be furious and tweeting "lock him up" in all-caps.  He won't be though - he couldn't care less about the wall. So long as there's a few photos to show of the bit that's been built.  Misappropriating donations is a Trump family thing.
