CNN just now. Begin freakout level 3:

North Korea: Kim Jong Un observes missile-ready hydrogen bomb: During a visit to the country's Nuclear Weapons Institute, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un "watched an H-bomb to be loaded into new ICBM (intercontinental ballistic missile)," KCNA reported.
There was no independent confirmation of the claims.

It's showing on USGS as = M6.3 quake = approx 40 kiloton blast.

Shaking felt in S Korea, China, Russia.

I expect that there would be some delay before sample analysis could confirm or refute DPRK claims that they have a thermonuclear device. Then it's just going off their word that it's miniaturised to the point of being able to be delivered by missile.

If yield was 40 kiloton, then it's still well within yield for a fission bomb. There's no proof that they can miniaturise - it's not that easy. For all we know at this stage, the device could have weighed many tonnes. The photos they showed of loading a warhead into an ICBM are probably absolute BS.

Anyway, what will Trump do now? I'm not looking forward to his reaction.

Some discussion going on suggesting that depending on depth, that may have been a megaton explosion - which is above the yield of boosted fission bombs. Yay. (/s)

IMO its time for a regime change. The US has a VERY poor record of regime change. WMD = oil in Iraq, Oil in Afghanistan. Thats a pity as now there is a real need for regime change.

What can it do and for who?

1. Stop the NK threat to SK, Japan, US, and the fallout and issue with China.

2. Gets the US out. While the US will remain as allies to SK and Japan, if there is no NK threat the US can bug out. SK and Japan still have a ally, China and Russia happy

3. NK can unify, SK will develop NK, initially that can be an agricultural resource for One Korea. Maybe they will cooperate with China to develop NK, thats mends a few past wounds, maybe Japan can be a token support. All this adds to an "Asia" to join the "EU" the "Americas" as regions that generally get along. Not hold hands and sing, but get along.

The globe has had its fair shares of conflicts, the modern human race is very very young. These days, arguments should be over trade, exchange rates and so on. Chequebooks, not guns anymore. But NK is the acne thats in the way of a generally ok globe.

Who knows, maybe EU, Asia, Americas unite to get rid of the ISIS threat??? It may sound Utopian, but the world is a different place than 50 years ago. NK doesnt fit in, ad remember its not the NK that doesnt fit in , its ONE human being.

US will push for more sanctions which will fail. NK is on a clear course and is ready to start something it cannot finish. NK will fire at a weak target that does criticise it.

The Korean problem like so many are the result of the arrogant mistakes of the US, Great Britain, Russia at the end of the two World Wars. They should not be permitted to continue these mistakes and yet again try and impose a regime on others.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

KJU has made a hell of a statement here. He's shielded by China - who have stated that they will side with DPRK if the US launches a strike. They will remain neutral if DPRK was to strike - which of course they won't do.
China wants US out of the region.
Trump has stated that he "won't allow" what's actually happening. But he's run out of options.

The US wont strike first. China is again miffed, but more so, a SK security spokesman says he will recommend that SK completely isolate NK. SK has repeatedly stated it will try to talk with NK, that seems off the table now. Pity the isolation of NK still allows Russia and China to support it. If they want the US out, there needs to be no threat to its two allies. NK doesnt want the US out as it needs to be telling his people that the US is about to attack to maintain control

Thats what NK wants, the the US is the bad guy, even though its the NK that is the bad guy. If China and Russia are happy to have a nuclear NK, as they have stated everyone might need to accept, the US is staying in the region. They want the US out and a NK that we have today is the exact opposite way to get them out

Put an end to it? It will be a multi nation war, with potential nuclear fallout across the northern hemisphere

An invasion would would be a disaster, even Trump is not that stupid and his Defence chiefs would advise against that. I guess it's easy to be gung-ho in the relative safety of NZ
