North Dakota and South Dakota have a combine voter turnout of 454,000 and California with 11 million both get two senators per state.

Or put differently, North Dakota and South Dakota has 4% of the population of California, and get twice the senators.

It should be noted that North Dakota and South Dakota, which has more than the usual number of conservatives who bitch about federal intrusion, uses much more federal funds than they pay.

They actually get much more tax money from the federal government than are paid by that state's property taxes.

If there was a civil war, the mid-west and south-east economies would be screwed.

The shy Trump voter theory proliferates in political circles these days. This theory suggests that polls are failing to measure President Trump’s true level of support in the 2020 election because some Trump voters tell pollsters they’ll vote for Joe Biden or that they are undecided when in fact they are Trump supporters.

New York Times: A federal judge denies a bid by Texas Republicans to throw out more than 127,000 votes.

A federal judge in Houston on Monday rejected Republican efforts to invalidate more than 127,000 votes that were cast at drive-through locations in Harris County, a Democratic stronghold that includes Houston, the nation’s fourth-largest city.

The lawsuit was one of the most aggressive moves by Republicans in an election marked by more than 400 voting-related lawsuits. And it came as Texas, long considered reliably Republican in presidential elections, has emerged as a swing state this year, with polls showing an unusually close race there.

Harris County, the most populous county in Texas, is home to one of the state’s largest concentrations of Democratic voters. It had set up 10 drive-through voting sites to offer a safe, in-person voting option amid the pandemic, and polls were open for 18 days.

But in a lawsuit, Republicans argued that Chris Hollins, the Harris County Clerk, did not have the authority to allow drive-through voting in the county.

Judge Andrew S. Hanen, a federal judge who was appointed by President George W. Bush, held an emergency hearing for the lawsuit on Monday and ruled against tossing the ballots. On Sunday, the all-Republican Texas Supreme Court had rejected a similar effort to get those ballots tossed out.

...The effort to invalidate those votes had been met with bipartisan backlash. Democrats decried it as among the most brazen moves to disenfranchise voters in Texas. A coalition of 150 faith leaders in the state signed a letter decrying the effort. Donald Trump is a man who prefers plain speaking to the language of diplomacy.

During his four years in office, the US president has upended relationships with previously solid US allies, forged surprising new friendships and tweeted about it all - a lot.

We've taken a look at the countries he's mentioned most on Twitter to pick out his most notable statements and give an overview of where US relations stand as we approach the election on 3 November.

A few months after Jacinda Ardern became prime minister of New Zealand, the headline of a feature about her in Vogue magazine called her "young, forward-looking, and unabashedly liberal - call her the Anti-Trump".

So it should come as no surprise that Ms Ardern and Mr Trump have not become best friends - but their relationship has appeared amicable enough most of the time.

The pair met for the first time at a summit in Vietnam in 2017, where Ms Ardern said President Trump joked to someone else present that she had "caused a lot of upset in her country" with her election win. She replied: "You know, no-one marched when I was elected."

When New Zealand suffered from a terrorist attack in March 2019, Mr Trump said he had spoken to Prime Minister Ardern and told her "we stand in solidarity with New Zealand – and that any assistance the USA can give, we stand by ready to help. We love you New Zealand!"

The two leaders had a private meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York in September 2019, with Mr Trump describing it as "wonderful".

But there has been some tension recently, specifically over the two countries' different approach to dealing with the coronavirus pandemic.

In August this year, Mr Trump alleged New Zealand was experiencing a "big surge" in cases but Ms Ardern said his comparison of her country and the US was "patently wrong". On the day of Mr Trump's remark, the US recorded 40,000 new cases while New Zealand had just nine.

And in October, when Ms Ardern was asked whether President Trump had called to congratulate her on an historic election victory, she told reporters: "I don't tend to have those direct communications with the president of the United States."

In 2010, e-mails circulated among members of the Texas State Republican Executive Committee calling for Straus to be replaced by a "Christian conservative" as Speaker, on the grounds that "we elected a house with Christian, conservative values. We now want a true Christian, conservative running it.

They got him in the end.

He was speaker for 10 years so possibly chose to not run again. 10 minutes in Texas would be too long for me.

It's interesting the difference the differences between the insults: DINO and RINO.

"Democrat In Name Only" / "Republican In Name Only"

You might remember President Trump believes that most Americans don’t know that Abraham Lincoln was a Republican.

“Great president. Most people don’t even know he was a Republican,” Trump said while addressing attendees at the National Republican Congressional Committee Dinner. “Does anyone know? Lot of people don’t know that.”

As song "Dixie" says "I wish I was in the land of cotton, old times there are not forgotten," and boy they're serious.

Because Lincoln was a Republican, a lot of politicians from the Southeast were DINO, through the 1970's

Yellow dog Democrat "I'd vote for a yellow dog before Republican"

For example infamous Governor George Wallace, 1963 to 1987, was a democrat.

Republicans still throw around the insult RINO, but Democrats almost never use the insult DINO since the 1970's.

I think it show the difference in how the Democrats is more inclusive, which is a good thing.

In regards to Abraham Lincoln being Republican, he was... but Democrats and Republicans have changed over the years where they have basically each become the other.

During the 1860s, Republicans, who dominated northern states, orchestrated an ambitious expansion of federal power, helping to fund the transcontinental railroad, the state university system and the settlement of the West by homesteaders, and instating a national currency and protective tariff. Democrats, who dominated the South, opposed those measures.

After the Civil War, Republicans passed laws that granted protections for Black Americans and advanced social justice. And again, Democrats largely opposed these apparent expansions of federal power.

Should also mention that the first KKK was heavily associated with the Democrats, and in the south the second KKK was mostly Democrats. They current Klans are more or less the opposite.
