Why would Trump leave peacefully? He would have to go around the rest of his life being branded a loser or a one-term President, and he would utterly hate that.

I have a feeling (barring Joe winning big time) Trump will have his usual childish tantrum and try to draw things out for as long as he possibly can.

Signs and symptoms of narcissistic personality disorder

  • Grandiose sense of self-importance
  • Lives in a fantasy world that supports their delusions of grandeur
  • Needs constant praise and admiration
  • Exploits others without guilt or shame
  • Frequently demeans, intimidates, bullies, or belittles others

and ...

  • Sense of entitlement

Because they consider themselves special, narcissists expect favorable treatment as their due.
They truly believe that whatever they want, they should get.
They also expect the people around them to automatically comply with their every wish and whim. That is their only value.
If you don’t anticipate and meet their every need, then you’re useless.
And if you have the nerve to defy their will ... prepare yourself for aggression ...

While Im looking forward to tomorrow, I dont see that the drama will be huge. I dont see mass riots even though many businesses are boarding up their shopfronts.

Trump will be the usual narcissist. He loses, he will fight it, not with reality, but with Twitter. When he's out its Twitter. When he officially loses, he hasn't lost, as his Twitter feed will be 24/7 that its wrong, so he wins (in his own narrow mind). He will go on a Fox interview in 3 months time, calmly explain that he actually won, but was overthrown by corruption and collusion. In his mind he always will win, even though its only recorded in Arial 12 Bold

But with him officially gone, he will be free game for the media, no need for official rules of dont upset the POTUS, but again, Twitter will correct all that....

Do winners of Senate and House elections also take office on 20 January? Can a 'lame duck' senate pass legislation to kneecap a Democratic majority?

January 3

Assuming a Biden win, between now and then I'd expect McConnell to attempt to sabotage the US economy by blocking any coronavirus relief and making sure there's as much pain as possible while trying to twist facts to "prove" that the 7 trillion dollar blowout in US debt was caused by the Dem majority in the house.

A resounding and dominant win by Biden today. While it wont be 370 colleges to 200 it will be very clear.

Its not a Biden win, its not a Democrat win, this election is about getting Trump out

The rust belt that saw a non politician, successful businessman (apparently) be a different POTUS and move America forward will not vote like that again, many will but many have had enough

Some GOP voters will vote against Trump to get him out, we already see that with some Senators

The generally lazy DEM voters that are lax on voting will be out in force

These three factors make it clear, IMHO

Wow, a whole town in New Hampshire voted for Biden, 100% of them! Wow!

(Ok there is only 5 in the tiny town, slight disclosure there :-)  )

Good news: With the unprecedented amount of early voting, we should have some news by 4 PM NZ today.

Bad news: With mail-in voting, it'll be a week at least before we get more news.

Worse news: With Trump's guaranteed court battles, we probably won't get firm results till January. ANd even then, Trump will probably have to be dragged out by his ankles.

Continental US. All polls close by 4 PM NZ time.

Alaska and Hawaii won't close till about 10 pm NZ time.

The Supreme Court (which I thought was GOP stacked) has thrown out two cases Trump tried to have mail votes not counted, so that tells me that the SC won't be wanting frivolous court actions during the transition. This is just my opinion. I'm seeing them take a calm and sensible approach to avoiding less drama, and who kbows ho many of them at GOP supporters through and through but want Trump out

Was that the SC or the State Supreme Court? The two most recent ones the Republicans lost were at the State level. Give it time, they'll still try it on.

Best outcome: He loses, bigly.

Worst outcome: He loses, but by a small margin, small enough to claim victory and amp up reasonable doubt in key counties and states and drag things out. This would arguably be worse than him winning outright due to the incalculable damage it would do to the electoral process and the precedent it would set.

I don't think this is as much of a slam dunk as people claim.

It will be. Every metric is against him

Rust Belt

Some GOP voters doing crossover

Turnout

Covid Response

Like I said its not about Biden or Democrats its about Trump, the tide is too big

I don't disagree with that. But unless GOP voters in very specific places swap out, and unless those votes are counted before he thinks he can claim a disputed victory, and unless those votes aren't injuncted, then none of those present an insurmountable challenge.

Really, the odds that need to pan out for him to not be in a position to claim a moral win and head to Court is what we're arguing here. And once you start looking at their weird, gerry-mandered electoral college and ability to legally challenge almost everything, you start to figure that this is far from clear-cut. Just winning may not be enough for Biden - he has to win in a very specific way and I don't know if the Democrats are prepared to cheat like the Republicans are to push it beyond doubt.

When one party fights clean, and the other fights dirty, the one fighting dirty has the advantage. If the past four years have shown nothing else, they have shown this.
