Looks like the US military also see nuclear NK as the way it will have to be. Get the US out will never happen if thats the case, and NK want the Korean War to be over, so the US can leave, thats quite a joke
Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.
MikeB4: The lead in this must come from NKs neighbours, that is, China, South Korea, Russia and Japan
SK was ok to talk, not now it seems. Japan doesnt want to know it just wants safety. Russia and China want the US out and what they have allowed to happen is ensuring the US doesnt get out. NK is a tool for Russia and China to keep the US away from its borders, but they have now ensured that the US will always be in the region. So we now have a modern day Asian Middle East situation that will never go away
or, NK removes its nuclear, US agrees to officially end the Korean War and they move out as there is now no nuclear threat. NO AID is given. NK can be recognised as a legitimate nation, sanctions removed, NK can then seek its third goal of improving their economy, Russia and China can pay for that
MikeB4: The lead in this must come from NKs neighbours, that is, China, South Korea, Russia and Japan
Actually yes, if the US goes fully silent. The US takes the attitude that we are here to stay, no need for talks, just keep the military ready, let the others sort it out. If the others come up with a peaceful non nuclear solution, yeah, we will talk. And there will be no aid or reward from us, thats for sure.
Too late for all that. Screw China and Russia for allowing things to get this bad. USa has very strong allies that it must protect via treaties (SK and Japan). It is the US, Japan and SK that will determine what happens next and it has passed words. 5 years of heavy attempts at words have failed. NK just wont listen to reason and that has to be the largest warning that NK will strike first, and it will be soon.
First step is for US to bonb NK side of China to destroy all supply lines form China, using conventional bombing. This needs to happen now before NK can launch anything. Hopefully the effect of this would be to force NK to the table.

I cant agree. Id leave it at status quo. Russia and China have messed up big time, its now a stalemate, there wont be a non nuclear peace happening. The US wont be going anywhere. They have messed it up, so they can live with the tensions year in and year out. If NK wants the US out and to push ahead with the economy, that wont happen either. Good job Russia and China.

It's quite possible they can, now. They might not be able to hit the US, but they have by some estimates hundreds of Scud-derivative short range missiles which are fully capable of hitting Seoul. Their new warhead might still be a bit heavy and the reentry vehicles not good enough for an ICBM but they may be able to put one on a short range rocket.
The photo from earlier this week of Kim inspecting a peanut-shaped metal case shows something consistent with what is publicly known about staged weapons, and yesterday's test pretty much confirms it works.

If that was a USA vs NK war, but it will be a Russia/China/NK vs USA, SK, Japan war. We dont want that
Russia/China/NK have boxed themselves into a corner where the US will stay forever, and NK's goals according to Christiane Amanpour, are to 1, retain the regime, 2. be a recognised nation, and 3. Improve the economy. 2 and 3 wont happen. So while he has played hardball, you can look at it that he has removed the goals that he supposedly wants, and removed the goal Russia and China want, the US to leave. Thats another way to look at it, and for the US just to keep quiet and let them stew on it and live with it, or for once, do something about it

Its time to send in the troops and put an end to it.
An invasion would would be a disaster, even Trump is not that stupid and his Defense chiefs would advise against that. I guess it's easy to be gung-ho in the relative safety of NZ
Further to this, if the US were to try a land operation they would be up against approximately (North Korean only).....
200 Divisions of Regular Forces
500 Divisions of Reserve Forces
18 Divisions of Specials.
5,000 Tanks
8,000 Artillery Pieces
4,000 Multiple launch rocket launchers
+/- 500 Fighters
+/- 80 Bombers
Add to that unknown numbers of Tactical and Strategic Nuclear weapons and assistance for other nations.

Thats what NK wants, the the US is the bad guy, even though its the NK that is the bad guy. If China and Russia are happy to have a nuclear NK, as they have stated everyone might need to accept, the US is staying in the region. They want the US out and a NK that we have today is the exact opposite way to get them out
Put an end to it? It will be a multi nation war, with potential nuclear fallout across the northern hemisphere
The US out of NK means SK is invaded. Don't you believe the US should be protecting its alies?
Unfortunately a war is looming anyway. Doing nothing is not an option. I would much rather see a huge war, where NK is on the defensive, and war happens inside NK, instead of leaving things to fester, resulting in a bigger blowout with NK on the attack with SK, Japan the US etc.

I agree. But an attack from NK would be more of a disaster. I don't believe its right to site back and wait for an attack. An attack from NK is imminent, and its coming.
MikeB4:
China has repeatedly said a first strike on NK by the US would not be tolerated Even SK has repeatedly said no to that. It would end extremely badly.
China has little to lose if things go pear shaped between the US and NK. China can basically throw its whole economy out of the window of they decide to defend NK. China can't afford that.
North Korea isn't going to suddenly invade South Korea just because the US moves everyone out. For one thing, South Korea isn't exactly defenseless, and for another the US would come straight back, as would everyone else, and I think that at that point even China might send in some special forces to personally express their disappointment directly to Kim Jong Un's head.

The US and World economy is closely tied to that of South Korea and China. If this were to turn to a hot war even if it remained regional the US and World economy would go into a tail spin.
