Seems Brian Tamaki has picked a side

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/brian-tamakis-wellington-protest-pro-israel-and-pro-palestine-protesters-to-face-off/JMN4OLPXLFCWPPPAPYHLKYRAHA/

Not sure if that is good or bad news though for NZers views on Israel......

Just in case someone doesn't know, many evangelicals wanted to bring on the end times. One of the conditions is the return of the lands of David. It's a complex series of events needed to bring Armageddon so I'm not going to list them here. Just know that many evangelicals strongly support Israel.

From Stuff recently.

"The church cultivates a feeling of societal collapse just around the corner, as is evident in Tamaki’s inspiring new year message.

Tamaki: 'Armageddon! The battle is going to heat up! We may have been locked down and knocked down in 2021, but in 2022 we’ll breakthrough for you!'

If the great rapture does come, Tamaki can count on a loyal servant in Christchurch."

That's a joke. No action on Ukraine, which is ongoing for almost two years.

The security council is basically a council of military superpowers. When a superpower wants to continue a war - the security council can't agree on stopping it. In other cases it can explore possibilities for peace.

kingdragonfly: Assuming all of Hammas kidnapped victims are killed, this war will easily exceed a 10 to 1 kill ratio in Gaza.

Can either side get more brutal? I'm sure they'll be thinking of new ways for the centuries to come.

Meir David HaKohen Kahane was an American-born Israeli ordained Orthodox rabbi, writer, and ultra-nationalist politician who served one term in Israel's Knesset before being convicted of acts of terrorism.

"Love has its place, as does hate. Peace has its place, as does war. Mercy has its place, as do cruelty and revenge."

Sermon delivered by 'Atallah Abu Al-Subh, former Hamas minister of culture

"Allah will kill the Jews in the hell of the world to come, just like they killed the believers in the hell of this world."

somehow i don't think the IDF will stop, they obviously want vengeance for these

Or when a permanent members President needs the votes of people who support the country who is the aggressor in the war.

Someone has to stop the endless vengeance loop, or it'll become the sci-fi meme of the last two survivors trying to kill each other, but have both forgotten why they are fighting.

Perhaps God making an appearance and saying "Listen guys if you want to fight then stop pulling my name into it. I hate to tell you but I don't care if any of you live or die. If you destroy the entire planet, I won't come to the rescue. There's no such things as souls and there's nothing but oblivion when you die. I was never part of this so just leave me out of it."

This is something that is commonly said and it is almost total nonsense no matter if the number is 1000 years or 10,000 years.

Gods with different names, same fights.

All the religions in the area owe their origins to same base.
Stories taken from Babylonians who took them from earlier Mesopotamia.
https://www.theguardian.com/books/2014/feb/11/noahs-ark-round-ancient-british-museum-mesopotamian-clay-tablets-flood

""
Irving Finkel, curator of the British Museum's 130,000 Mesopotamian clay tablets, has spent 20 years investigating one that challenges the story of Noah and the flood
""
The mobile phone-sized ark tablet is housed in a posh-looking red box with "Instructions on the Building of the Ark" written on it. Finkel takes the tablet out of the box and lets me hold it – a chance to commune with the ghosts of ancient Mesopotamia. I manage not to drop it. As well as casting new light on the shape of the original ark, it also contains the first written allusion to the animals "going in two by two".
""

The very model of a crusty old curator? :-)

Irving Finkel | The Ark Before Noah: A Great Adventure
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_fkpZSnz2I

The 1000's of years of Egyptian Kings and Queens and their gods left their mark as well.
Mix them all up with common superstitions of all peoples.

All religion ...
Religion is just Politics by another means, just like war.
Its the same thing, you are a ruler who needs to bolster your rule, gods are pretty handy.

Some are just stories to tell around the campfire, before mass printing of books.
Ancient versions of Tom Clancy, Stephen King and Mills and Boon.

Of course just saying this in certain places gets you killed.

The area the IDF now suggest that 2 million Palestinians move to is the same size as Heathrow airport.

Of course the difference between the IDF safe zone and Heathrow is that you can get food, water, medical assistance and shelter at Heathrow.

And you won't get bombed.

The discussions I hear on the BBC around putting pressure on Israel never seem to mention the fact the Netanyahu is only in power because of the support of extreme right wing fanatics.

He would be out of power and potentially facing prison time if they removed their support for the government so there is no way Israel is going to stop until these lunatics say it's OK.

And their stated objective is to remove all Palestinians from the land they currently occupy in Gaza and the West Bank and they really don't care if that is dead or alive.
