Paul1977: I really hoped I’d be wrong, but because the Democrats learned nothing from 2016 we’re going to get 4 more years of Trump.

This will be a newly reinvigorated Trump, who longer even needs to worry about re-election.

I can’t even... holy sh*t.

 

And more worryingly, this will give the Republicans some time to sort out someone actually *competent* to stand as his replacement.

I don't think you can call it a coup attempt. It's ages before any potential inauguration and Trump or any president is entitled to stay there until that happens probably. The supreme court will hear any cases on this or the voting urgently as should any state courts. If he needs to then Trump is counting or gambling he can swing enough courts to make a difference and await the legal judgements. Imo to call this a coup attempt you need to see some beyond-legal or legally dubious things in operation.

I am commenting before I check the news tho : ).

Watched Trumps speech and he looked worn out, serious and decidedly unhappy. Very unlike him. Was very surprised at how close it was after all the polls were negative for him. Let’s hope someone concedes tomorrow and this doesn’t turn into a protracted soap opera. But then...that’s American politics.

Uhhh.. the NYT live feed shows Biden ahead. Not by much, but definitely ahead. Some of the comments here make it sound like Trump won.

Trump will never concede, and if Biden concedes then it’s game over. No matter how it plays out I think we are looking at a Trump victory, but until Biden concedes we can at least hope common sense might prevail.

He’s behind “on paper”, but with the states that are left it’s looking like it will swing to Trump. That’s the glory of the electoral college.

My wife's is an absentee ballot is one yet to be counted, Biden and Trump can just wait!

Just a gut feeling. If you go far back enough in this thread you’ll see I was predicting a Trump win in 2016 when almost everyone else was saying it was impossible.

I don’t have any more information that anyone else, but we’ll see. If I was a betting man my money would be on Trump at this point.

I do really hope to be proven wrong.

I have never struck much of a line at a voting booth in NZ. It amazes me to hear of some lines around three hours in length during this USA election. I read some commentary earlier today that said some Americans take the day off work to get voting done. Really unfair.

Such a full on day.

 

Jesus, I can't believe how many downright stupid people there are in the US, that somehow think Trump is doing a "great job" as president. He is an absolute trainwreck, yet he seems to have a loyal following of morons who lap up everything he says. Note that I don't mean all Republicans, just the ones who hang on his every word/lie when he speaks, like he's the second coming of Christ or something.

 

I hope when I wake up tomorrow things are a little more decided and the map has a little more blue on it. So disappointed with America right now. It's almost like everyone who voted for him wants to catch coronavirus under his watch and don't care what happens to them - their Messiah won't come and save them if they get it! He only cares about himself, and his family.

 

Also - did the pollsters get it wrong again? What happened to Joe's "landslide" victory? This is hardly what I (or anyone) would call a landslide!

 

Sigh.

gonna make another call - he's gonna go to bed, wake up, and want to start a civil war then declare martial law. but the economy and stock market will hold him back.
