Quick question related to voting in America: I often see people described as being "a registered Democrat" or "a registered Republican". Does this just mean that they're a paid-up member of that political party or is it something else?

I think it just means they have declared a preference. It isn't related to party membership. I could be wrong.

It appears that the lawsuits for Michigan and Georgia have been dismissed by Judges
step 1 of working its way up to Supreme Court?
Batman:
from my decades of observation - All politicians do that, when it's needed to be done. Otherwise you wouldn't be in politics.
There is also office politics etc - same stuff eh
Sure, but this is off the chart. Or maybe it just seems that way because they're doing it so visibly and blatantly?

Perhaps, but the comments from the Judges say a lot, they are saying its "exasperating" etc. In other words a joke. Anti Trump GOP is not rare, same probably applies to SC Judges, probbaly more so. These judges that have commented are making a statement

if you're meaning trump's tweets in the last few days, i don't think anyone can stop what he wants to do. if you mean his misinformation over the last 4 years, i think it's like when you play rugby and you know your scrum is breaking the rules but if you keep breaking the rules and your scrum is always superior, then why change your scrum.
they did speak out against him a lot at the start of his term, and they still do. a republican big shot said trump's victory claim is false (can't remember who). but over time more probably have given up speaking out against him, because if you do that you'd have to do it every day for the last 4 years and you better spend your energy elsewhere as a republican. over time it normalized.
if you mean covid stuff ... that's between him and the doctors. the politicians are not scientists/doctors, it's not in their area of expertise.

Twitter could.
They probably will too. Once he's "citizen Trump" with no constitutional power, there's no longer any reason to allow him to not fully abide with Twitter T&C.
Different strokes for different folks * ...

* I thought that this was a suitably Bidenesque slogan. 😐
Sideface
Trump's lead in Georgia has dropped to 9,525.

Trump's lead is down to 9,000 votes in Georgia - and continuing to fall with estimated 2% of the vote left to count.
Do the Democrats of a chance of gaining a majority in the Senate?
I assume they'll retain control of the House, but it would great if they secured all three branches.
If they win both run-offs in Georgia, they should be tied with Republicans. The vice-president is then the tie-breaker on any votes.
