Batman: So it turns out Biden cannot be President or do any transition work until the GSA calls it. The GSA is not calling anything at the moment. The question is who controls the GSA...

Biden can't be President until he's sworn in.

Given that Trump hasn't conceded and the states haven't certified the results there is no reason for them to sign the transition memo. It's a storm in a teacup, which won't stop the hysteria of course. Once the stars certify the result the government wheels will start turning for the transition.

4 years ago I'd say you'd be right. I've resided in places with autocratic democracies so I know what happens in those democracies. You should know, you live in such state :)

Batman: So he controls the supreme Court, can pardon himself, sacks anyone that disagrees with him, and controls who calls the election.

4 more years!

Except the supreme court has been consistent in rejecting lawsuits that don't have a basis in law, including voter law suits.

Conservative jurists may interpret law in a conservative way but they act within the law. If you have evidence to the contrary you should produce it.

A United States Postal Service worker who made claims of mail-in ballot tampering in Pennsylvania — which Senator Lindsey Graham called for investigation into — recanted his allegations Monday.

The USPS employee, identified as Richard Hopkins, signed a sworn affidavit alleging ballot tampering and fraud. In the affidavit, the postal worker alleged that postal supervisory officials hatched a plan to backdate ballots mailed after the election.

A test of democracy would be for the DOJ to file charges for perjury against this guy.

If it were possible to thoroughly properly investigate "election fraud", my money would be on the result being Trumpists would outnumber "Liberals" 10:1.  They're the ones being shown that rules don't matter.

The Washington Post - As states press forward with vote counts, Trump advisers privately express pessimism about heading off Biden’s win

NO PAYWALL     A current, longform article, worth a read.

Six states where President Trump has threatened to challenge his defeat continued their march toward declaring certified election results in the coming weeks, as his advisers privately acknowledged that President-elect Joe Biden’s official victory is less a question of “if” than “when.” ...

New York Times headline:

The Times Called Officials in Every State: No Evidence of Voter Fraud

The president and his allies have baselessly claimed that rampant voter fraud stole victory from him. Officials contacted by The Times said that there were no irregularities that affected the outcome.

PHILADELPHIA — Election officials in dozens of states representing both political parties said that there was no evidence that fraud or other irregularities played a role in the outcome of the presidential race, amounting to a forceful rebuke of President Trump’s portrait of a fraudulent election.

Over the last several days, the president, members of his administration, congressional Republicans and right wing allies have put forth the false claim that the election was stolen from Mr. Trump and have refused to accept results that showed Joseph R. Biden Jr. as the winner.

But top election officials across the country said in interviews and statements that the process had been a remarkable success despite record turnout and the complications of a dangerous pandemic.

“There’s a great human capacity for inventing things that aren’t true about elections,” said Frank LaRose, a Republican who serves as Ohio’s secretary of state. “The conspiracy theories and rumors and all those things run rampant. For some reason, elections breed that type of mythology.”

The Murdoch-Trump divorce

The New York Times - Why a Trump Loss May Be No Match for Rupert Murdoch’s Realpolitik

today

Presidents come and go. Rupert Murdoch remains.

For those who wondered how Mr. Murdoch, the octogenarian media magnate with a conservative streak, would react to the electoral defeat of President Trump, the past few days have brought a complicated answer, well-suited to the mercurial nature of Mr. Murdoch’s world.

The New York Post, the Murdoch tabloid that attacked Joseph R. Biden Jr. and his son Hunter before the election, splashed a beaming Mr. Biden on its Sunday cover - “IT’S JOE TIME” - and described Mr. Trump as “downcast” and misguided in his efforts to claim the election was a fraud.

The Sun, Mr. Murdoch’s outpost in London, reached new heights of Fleet Street ingenuity by comparing the president’s defeated visage to a crumple of skin on the actress Famke Janssen’s kneecap.

The Wall Street Journal, which had rejected The [New York] Post’s attack on Hunter Biden, has dismissed Mr. Trump’s fraud claims, and its conservative opinion page is nudging the president toward a gracious concession.

Fox News refused to retract an election night projection of a Biden win in Arizona despite intense pressure from Mr. Trump’s aides, who reached Mr. Murdoch in England to plead their case. ...

Paul1977:

I dunno. Since he's Trumpier than Trump I think they'd be push back from a lot of the party. He'd appeal to the die hard Trump fans, but possibility not to the run-of-the-mill Republicans.

Ivanka may be hated by the hard right, but has far more chance at swinging undecided votes IMO than Don Jr. And the hard right will vote Republican no matter what. I haven't listened to her speak much, so couldn't comment on her personality (or possible lack thereof).

I also cannot comment on her ability/personality. But If Trump genes dominate GOP politics its tantamount to Kardashians or Kanye West running the show. Last time I looked countries want to be run by statesman/woman not side shows. Better off to have a lacklustre POTUS then a soap opera one

I think that's probably for the good too.

The US has had some awful presidents/administrations, some of them have been deified by re-writing history, ignoring enormous failings of their own making.  Nothing compares to Trump though.  GWB's "you're either with us or against us" may have been the start of a worsening, as it deliberately excluded / created enemies of critics - who were just as much "patriotic Americans" (maybe more so) as the war-hawks.  Now everybody seems to hate the other half, and Trump's exploited that hugely.

Ive spent a lot of time there, the patriotism I find is awesome. Reminds me when I was a kid with the Queen. But if that extends too far, its still patriotism but for ideals not the country as a whole. Its 2020 not 1920. A few months back I read that Pence, due to his beliefs, is not allowed to be alone with another female that's not his wife. 2020 or 1920??

Thats ironic, Rupert is a winner and rides the winner. The cynic in me tells me that Trump support (not GOP support) is actually quite low, but its loud, or was loud.

Murdoch probably sees that subscriptions to his business does not allow Trump supporters to fit in, a minority interest.

Biased and ruthless, but in this case true. Losers don't help his cause.

Even if this poll is as inaccurate as election polling was, Trump is utterly doomed:

The Reuters/Ipsos national opinion survey, which ran from Saturday afternoon to Tuesday, found that 79% of U.S. adults believe Biden won the White House. Another 13% said the election has not yet been decided, 3% said Trump won and 5% said they do not know.

The results were somewhat split along party lines: about six in 10 Republicans and almost every Democrat said Biden won.

79% are correct. 13% also are correct, its not officially decided. 5% don't know thats ok. That leaves the 3%. Lots of noise on Twitter. Huge celebrations, but no riots, but there were some Trump supporters here and there. Maybe the 3% is the size of the noisy minority?
