@Tinkerisk you should really give us a list of German words that could be applicable - besides schadenfreude. And Oachkatzlschwoaf is quite cool.

Another useful phrase to memorise is "Kinnt's es Deppn net wia jeda nuamaale Mensch a English ren?", to request that someone speak English to you.

It's interesting that Google translate could not handle, but DeepL translate did a better job.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch ...

The Washington Post - Arizona certifies Biden’s win

breaking

Arizona certified its results Monday, giving President-elect Joe Biden a win in yet another state where President Trump has contested the election.

Trump allies have pledged to continue court challenges in the state. ...

The certification paves the way not only for Biden to receive the state’s 11 electoral votes but also for Democrat Mark Kelly to join the U.S. Senate.

Georgia's senate run-off is going to be key.

If the democrats take it, it'll hamstring Mitch "the Russian box turtle" McConnell

The good news is some Trump supporters are encouraging Republican voters not to vote for any senator, in protest of rigged elections.

I must say I support Trump supporters is this endeavor.; they should definitely boycott the senate run-off election. I salute your purity. Remember every time you vote, a foreign substance is introduced into your precious bodily fluids without your knowledge. ;)

Washington Post: Mitch McConnell’s ability to cripple Biden’s presidency depends on one thing

...If Republicans win one or both runoffs .... continued GOP control of the Senate will mean relentless obstruction of incoming President Joe Biden’s agenda. That means a much more grueling economic recovery, a less-coordinated response to the coronavirus’ latest rampage and a death knell for popular policies such as expanded health care and infrastructure investments.

In short, unless Democrats win both runoffs — giving them control — it will mean far more economic misery, far more illness and death, and badly diminished prospects for long-term national revival.

We know that if he remains majority leader, Mitch McConnell will work to cripple the Biden presidency by saddling him with the terrible politics of a miserable recovery. We saw him do this for years, mostly as minority leader, during the last Democratic presidency.

But will this matter to the outcomes in Georgia?

“If McConnell controls the Senate, he’s going to block the kind of relief package that we need,” Ossoff told me. “And that means not just short-term, direct economic relief, but also the kind of infrastructure-jobs-clean energy program necessary to support long-term recovery.”

“This paralysis of our government in the midst of a crisis is untenable,” Ossoff added. “People are suffering, and they want government to work.”

If elderly Republican senators die in office, are their replacements elected or appointed?

They are appointed by the state governor. The replacement does not have to be from the same party.

Sounds ominous! You do realise this will be on the US secret squirrel watch list?

You have to hope none of them meets a sticky end😊

It varies state by state, some states will appoint someone with different rules (Governor chooses, state legislature chooses). Some have rules they have to choose someone from the same party as the outgoing senator. I think Arizona the successor is chosen by the Governor but they are only in office until the next round of elections even if the original senator would not have been up for re-election during that cycle.

Back on the German tangent. It appears Oachkatzlschwoaf is Austrian.

From the urban dictionary;

Oachkatzlschwoaf

An Austrian slang word for the tail of a squirrel. Often used to proof if someone was austrian because germans couldn't pronounce it.

Highly impressed that it could translate that. It's taken from Viennese for Americans - A Phrase Book , which contains useful phrases for American tourists like "Listen, if English was good enough for Jesus, it ought to be good enough for you clowns", "Excuse me, is this the hill where Julie Andrews sang at the beginning of 'Sound of Music'?", "We've been in Austria for two days and we still haven't seen a kangaroo", "Which way to the nearest gun store?", "Geez! How many opera houses does one town need?", and "Look, Marge! That's the hospital my grandfather bombed!".

And in terms of "Oachkatzlschwoaf", that term is so overused it's a cliche. There are equally ghastly shibboleths like "Schdambeag", "Dsigräddnedwi", "Beggagsej", and "Millibiddschn" that no German-speaker would know what to do with. They just have things like "Rindfleischetikettierungsueberwachungsaufgabenuebertragungsgesetz", the title of a law in one of the German states.

Trump lost (again) Wisconsin (recount found an extra 87 votes for Biden).

An "expert witness" claimed voter fraud in Edison County, MI. There is no Edison County in Michigan.

And on and on and on.

But he was a certified stable genius, how could he have been wrong?

Also seems odd that he'd be classed as an "expert witness", that's someone judged by the court to be an acknowledged expert in the field to provide technical testimony to guide the jury in an area where the court lacks expertise, not someone who walks in off the street and engages in, to use my favourite Linus quote, "wanking around with his opinion".
