That's probably not a very good idea for the same reason the Allies allegedly never tried to kill Hitler during WWII [*], his incompetence and constant meddling was one of their greatest assets. In Putin's case he's doing an effective job of holding the whole mafia state together and keeping anyone truly competent who might turn into a threat to him out of play, you don't really want to change that.

[*] There's no strong evidence that this was ever an official policy, however not encouraging any internal opposition to Hitler was since if he'd been removed it would have denied them total victory.

It depends, remember that this is a mafia state for which Putin needs to play off his various henchmen against each other. The other options are that either nothing happens, or that Shoigu is suddenly arrested based on Prigozhin's claims. It just depends on who Putin wants to get rid of the most.

Regarding the drone attack on the Kremlin, there's plenty of theories on whether it was a false flag operation.

Pros:

At 2am, a video shows workers appeared on the same roof, and left shortly before the attack
well-shot video, with a clock tower showing the time in the foreground
hitting a flag-pole with a Russia flag is a bit "on the nose"

Cons

Except for extreme Russia media, the mainstream Russian media only quickly mentioned it, generally down played it,
it's embarrassing for Russia's "impenetrable" air defense.
the drone was minimally armed

I suspect it was an internal Russia job, outside of Putin's control, for reasons unknown.

Anyhow here's an interesting video of the aftermath.

Another contributing factor is that it came just in time to justify cancelling a whole lot of Victory Day parades, which would otherwise have been very awkward because most of the personnel and a lot of the equipment needed for them is in Ukraine, a good chunk of it buried there (they're scraping together random administrative staff and whatnot and stuffing them into uniforms to make up for the lack of actual military people). The Immortal Regiment section, where families bring portraits of the fallen, has been cancelled entirely because they don't want tens of thousands of people marching holding up pictures of the Ukraine war dead.

Having said that, I expect there'll be at least a few marches of this nature... wonder what the OMON units will do in response? Bust up a march commemorating war dead?

"So the only way I think you could construe this as an attempted assassination given the payload and targeting involved is if someone had credible intelligence that Vladimir Putin would be sleeping on the roof of that building at 2AM and that if he saw a drone incoming his only response would have been to try and physically catch it because that's the only way I can imagine that warhead actually having a lethal impact."

Poland may see Soviets as not much different than other invaders.
The war afterall started with both invading it in partnership.
Liberation had to wait till decades later after the wall came down.

Just one tank rolled through Moscow's Red Square for Russia's Victory Day parade, an annual event Russia typically uses to show off its military might.

Before Tuesday's celebrations kicked off, Russia had already cancelled or scaled back its typical celebrations across the country, which mark Soviet victory over Nazi Germany.

Experts said that Russia was trying to conceal how its military had been degraded by its invasion of Ukraine.

Tuesday's military parade in Moscow did not include an air display or any military jets over the capital city.

It was also missing any modern advanced tanks, the BBC and the New York Times reported.

In fact, multiple reports said that just one tank — a T-34, which Russia first used in World War II — was in the parade. The Times, The Telegraph, and Reuters reported the single tank.

This video has a misleading title, which is a pity, because it actually happened later

From 2015 Putin's super monster tank T-14 being towed during a Victory Day rehearsal.

And recently, an actual T-14 captured unscathed by Ukranians, probably ran out of fuel
