freitasm:

Reporting to defence ministry officials on the incursion, Mr Shoigu said "more than 70 Ukrainian nationalists" had been killed and the rest pushed back into Ukraine.

You have to laugh at the Russian military spokesman, he's like Comical Ali without the charm and charisma.  Such a good deadpan liar, at least he has a future in international poker when the Russian military no longer needs him

Not sure of the validity. However the Ukrainians mention 3 drones were involved in attack; the Russians released a video showing of only one being destroyed.

The Russian news agency TASS says it wasn't hit.

However it "has completed its planned passage from the mission area to its point of permanent deployment in Sevastopol, where the ship will replenish its supplies and then continue on with its assigned missions"

Reminds me of this scene from "The Simpsons" between a police officer and a financial planner

Financial planner: "It doesn't look like you've been saving anything for the future!"

Chief Wiggum: "Well, you know how it is with cops. I'll be shot three days before retirement. In the business, we call it retirony."

Planner: "Well, what if you don't get shot?"

Wiggum: "What a terrible thing to say! Oh, look! You made my wife cry!"

Not a deep dive, and not as recent as the title implies. But a good video.

Russia has accused Ukraine of launching a series of early morning drone attacks on Moscow, the first time the city has been targeted by multiple drones since Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The Russian defence ministry said on Telegram that Kyiv had staged a "terrorist attack" using at least eight drones.

Officials said that minor damage had been caused to several buildings.

Ukraine has denied carrying out the drone strikes.

Presidential aide Mykhailo Podolyak said that Kyiv was not directly involved in the Moscow attacks, but that Ukraine had enjoyed watching events unfold and predicted an increase in attacks.

The mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, said no-one was seriously injured. Emergency services were "at the scene of incidents", he added.

The defence ministry has claimed that all the drones were intercepted.

"Three of them were suppressed by electronic warfare, lost control and deviated from their intended targets. Another five drones were shot down by the Pantsir-S surface-to-air missile system in the Moscow region," the ministry said.

This article is two weeks old, but relevant.

With a friend like China, who needs enemies?

CNN: China woos Central Asia as Ukraine war weakens Russian influence
...
President of the People's Republic of China, Xi, will present visiting Central Asian leaders with “a series of proposals” on the long-term development of ties and sign agreements, Chinese officials said this week.

Among those are likely to be new pledges for economic cooperation – now more needed than ever by the region, which is feeling the sting of Russia’s war.

“The war disrupted many links between Russia and Central Asia, especially trade, especially transportation, transit, investments, and migration,” said Azimzhan Khitakhunov, a senior research fellow at the Eurasian Research Institute in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

It is “of great interest to Central Asia nowadays to cooperate with China as one of its important alternative markets,” he added.

I think Earth is a good market...  Buy and sell goods to suit both parties is better than using trade as a control pawn.

The governor of the Kherson region, Oleksandr Prokudin, said about 16,000 people were in the “critical zone” on the Ukrainian-controlled right bank of the river. He said people were being evacuated for districts upstream of Kherson city and would be taken to bus to the city and then by train to Mykolaiv, and on to other Ukrainian cities.

Jake Broe does some interesting YouTube video’s on it. They are around 30 minutes each, but there’s some interesting analysis on it. I usually listen to them in background while doing other stuff.

The first half  of this one is on the destruction of the Dam, explains why it’s likely the Russians destroyed it, they are trying to deny.

There’s also claim Russia is destroying a lot of leopards. In  video of some being destroyed they look like abandoned harvesters.

Blowing the dam makes sense, it's a long-standing military tactic to hold up opposing forces when you're afraid of being overrun. Pre-WWI Austria used dams to secure their mountain borders against Italy, Russia used it to slow up the Wehrmacht in Ukraine, and Germany used it to good effect in the last phase of WWII.

I'm not saying it's a laudable thing to do, but from a military tactical point of view it makes sense. I would hope the Ukrainian military had planned for it since it's such an obvious move.

They claim to have destroyed Leopard2s not leopards.

I dont think they could destroy either except in a complete accident tbh.

Specifically, these ones.

I await reports of Russia destroying Czech STARKOM units.
