gzt:
Batman: Feed says request to invoke 25th amendment has been passed by the house. Though VP Pence says no. Not sure what happens next probably nothing

That's correct. Just a request. Pence has said 'No' to that request.

The actual impeachment debate and resolution is tomorrow 9AM ET.

To me Pence has been the hero of the last 2-3 weeks.

Singlehandedly held everything together, preventing civil war.

gzt: American is like 97% christian and even many evangelicals of those are not trump supporters. The people you talk about are pretty much a minority although they are noisy and fund a lot.

It's confusing when you talk about religion, because when you add up the figures you get 121%.

Just like when you ask people to identify with race, they often identify with more than one.

The US is at least 70.6% Christian, and 25.4% say they're Evangelical (personally I find this a little scary )

23.5% are non-religious, which is also a lot.

Not so long along non-religious were in the 10% range, so a very significant rate of growth.

Pew Research:

Christian --- 70.6%
---- Evangelical --- 25.4%
---- Catholic --- 20.8%
--- Protestant (non- Evangelical) --14.7%

Everything else ---- 29.4%

It's 70.6 + 29.4% = 100.0%

I have a lot of christian friends here. They call trump the anti-christ. they were beyond happy when he was voted out.

The confusing thing is not religion - it's the inability for Americans to use their brains.

Democrats - everything Republican is repugnant and delusional

Republican - everything Democrat is of the socialist, everything Trump says is truth

Just wanted to comment on the comparisons of Trump to Hitler, the original drainer of swamps was actually Mussolini, not Hitler. Having said that, Trump probably couldn't drain a bathtub, so he's more a wannabe Mussolini. Please update your references.

They should be able to override Pence if they have the majority of the vote to invoke it.

The 25th amendment is a really badly written amendment. It had to cover such things as a bomb going off and killing many senior level politicians.

If the vice-President is not playing ball, my understanding is 25th amendment can't be invoked.

Note that in the past, incapacitated has always been "dead".

"Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.

The 25th amendment is very simple and quite well written. It's not designed to get rid of a bad president, it's meant to provide a mechanism for succession in the case of a death or mental incapacity.

It's not designed to remove a bad or incompetent president. That's what impeachment and removal by the senate is for. The Democrats are playing a political game to make Pence and the cabinet look bad. If they were really serious about principle rather than politics then they'd proceed straight to impeachment but it's better politically for them to tar the republicans with the brush twice.

Biden isn't really in favour of this as it will delay the appointment of his cabinet and create further political problems.

Why should Pence get credit for behaving like a mature human being? Most of us do that anyway.

I agree. He has put stability there, upheld the count process, did that ahead of Trump loyalty. No doubt he is placing his future ahead of a Trump future but at least he has shown a little stick.

Some of Trump's press secretaries may face a day of reckoning after leaving the White House.

Yep. While its standard fare to provide support, exaggerate this, minimise that, the difference between GOP and Dems is where honesty sits. The pity is the many GOP that are loyal to the US and honest. But overall, dishonesty has been a pre requisite of this current party. Some may say the Dems are dishonest and the GOP are more dishonest I suppose. But when you listen to a Biden speech and a Trump speech, or his loyalists, there is a stark contrast.
