The unity scolds are coming.

As Joe Biden tries to make good on his campaign promise to bring the country together, Republicans are already seeing their way to a two-pronged strategy of opposition: Do everything possible to undermine the new president, then shake their heads in feigned disappointment as they blame Biden for not doing enough to unify the country.

This weapon will be wielded against Biden again and again. Whenever he criticizes his opponents or even just tries to follow through on the agenda that he ran and won with, Republicans will say that he has broken his own promise of unity. Here’s an early model:

Let’s be clear about something. The problem we face right now isn’t “our political divisions.” The Capitol building was not stormed by members of the Divisiveness Party.

The rioters who conducted that attack on American democracy were supporters of Donald Trump — the uncontested leader of the GOP, the president whom Rubio and nearly every other Republican supported, cheered on, justified, and rationalized for the past four years while he attacked American institutions and poured hate down on anyone who disagreed with him.

So instead of asking whether Biden is doing enough to promote unity, how about we ask what Republicans are doing to bring the country together?

Why should Pence get credit for behaving like a mature human being? Most of us do that anyway.

Bcos America is not most of us - in danger of implosion of democracy from the top to the senate to the house right to the bottom calling for blocking Biden

and a mature human being gives credit where it's due in spite of their previous differences. but that's my opinion.

If he had always acted that way, it would be a different matter. It is good that he finally did the right thing, but it would have been better if he had found his balls much earlier.

Trump now impeached twice.

Votes for impeachment just passed a majority, with votes left to count. 9 Republicans appear to have voted to impeach.

McConnell won't recall senate before Biden's inauguration, Democrat senate majority means the trial won't be a sham like last time, they'll call witnesses and hear evidence, even if they don't convict (supermajority needed) then the evidence will be public.

Edit: bad phrasing. One was an apparent rioter. There may have been other issues with the cop.

Luckily Pence's powers are almost non-existent, but when he got a chance, he usually did the wrong thing. He cast 8 tie-breaking votes, all in favor of the GOP and evangelists.

He cast the deciding vote to break a fifty-fifty tie to confirm Betsy "Cruella de Vil" DeVos as the secretary of education.

Pence cast his second tie-breaking vote on March 30, voting a bill to defund Planned Parenthood.
