johno1234:Trump was the laziest least productive president ever. Until Joe came along.

I think Biden just made himself unelectable and Trump will get in by default. I’m not happy about this but I’m not feeling the despair others are expressing. Other than the USA being routinely embarrassed, not too much bad stuff happened under Trump’s last term.

And I hardly think Biden is the "laziest least productive president ever". Yes the points you made (Afghanistan, etc) are worth mentioning, but Trump's hardly been perfect has he? as the above list I linked to shows.

Biden's tenure hasn't even come remotely close to being as bad as Trump's - but I will concede the debate didn't go well for the former. Having said that, the latter just stood there and lied/deflected/obfuscated for 90 minutes with next to no fact-checking or being called out on some of the more outrageous things he said by the moderators.

Interestingly, after his not-great debate performance Biden attended a rally in South Carolina where he was the total opposite of how he appeared the night before:

https://www.wunc.org/2024-06-28/biden-bounces-back-from-bad-debate-with-energetic-raleigh-rally

I guess we all have bad days (and debates) sometimes, but I wonder if - or how much - this will hurt him in the polls.

I’m about 20 min in, and it’s embarrassing for the Dems. Biden appears slack-jawed and confused. He’ll start making a point, then confusedly fumble his words and just trail off. Very few people his age would have the mental and physical capacity to be president, and Biden clearly isn’t one of them. No-one can honestly think he’s up for another term.

You know what you’re getting with Trump, a bunch of lies, so no surprises there. He’s a narcissist and a liar, but his mental faculties appear to be far sharper than Biden’s.

I think this will swing a lot of undecideds to Trump. No one watching would have been surprised by Trump’s bullshit, but a whole lot would have been taken aback by Biden’s state.

The Democrats have completely shit the bed running Biden again. Running Hillary Clinton in 2016 was a mistake. Running Biden in 2020 (even though he won) was a mistake as well, he was a weak candidate then and he is far weaker now. They just don’t learn. Everyone needs to prepare for another 4 years of Trump as president.

That’s the difference reading other people’s words off a teleprompter makes.

It is not just Trump. It is also the people he attracts and surrounds himself with. It is a dismantling of democratic values and principles. It is the abandonment of Ukraine and the enabling of Putin's further land grabs. It is conceding the South Pacific to the Chinese. It is the beginning of a religious theocracy. It is the abandonment of everything America has ever stood for. Trump is vain and shallow and foolish. He is easily manipulated. It is the people in the shadows that terrify me.

Biden has always been a meandering speaker jumping back and forth all over the place to make a point and drifting a bit in his younger years.

That personality trait is not really helping him. I'd be surprised if his prep didn't tell him to avoid it.

Overall he sounded like he didn't get quality sleep or skipped a coffee that morning.

538 conducted a poll both before and after the debate and while they found that Biden's performance wasn't great (which I agree with), they also found it probably didn't change most voters minds:

In many ways the USA has never been a good example of a democracy.

Maybe too much of the 'every man for himself' attitude?

I find it strange that none of Trump's opponents ever mention his close friendship with Jeffrey Epstein, a known sex trafficker.

Probably because most of their 'friends' are linked as well. Plenty of democrat leaning names on the 'plane list'.

Well someone in the debate did say Trump had morals of a sewer rat.

Trump a born and bred New Yorker, should know sewer rats. :-)
https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2023/03/new-york-city-rat-infestation-politics/673250/

I think at that level you stay on most sold ground, there is more than enough.
We do have multiple porn actress's talking of their interactions with Trump.
Court testimony under oath by one too. Plus his other interactions.

We lack same from ex Epstein girls specifically about Trump?

Prince Andrew on one level surprises, he has/had? a protection squad.
Security and secret services keeping an eye on safety of.

Presumably getting advice, over the years.
As a Royal you are a target for many. Honeypot is classic spycraft after-all.

I suppose its why people got so down on him, it seemed so willful in the face of everything.

A handy point-by-point rebuttal of some of Trump's more ridiculous lies he told during the debate.

Politicians lie. They are down there with used car salesmen. Biden also dealt out plenty of obvious ones. Ardern claiming she never lies was a low point in NZ politics. Lies fall from politician’s lips like leaves from an oak tree in autumn. Trump just says more of them.

Edit- from 2022, claiming she has never lied in politics which I think is a bit fanciful.
