I put Trump more in the category of a rabid squirrel. Less intimidating but still dangerous.

I definitely hold in disdain the Chinese Communist Party, but I found it interesting they are not celebrating the Washington coup.

Here's an article from the Chinese Communist Party mouthpiece, and they're not celebrating. I hate to admit it, but it's actually pretty well written.

Global Times: Capitol mob represents an internal collapse of US political system

Donald Trump's supporters stormed the US Capitol on Wednesday in an attempt to stop Joe Biden from being certified the winner. Although the situation was quickly brought under control, politicians and public opinion condemned the riots, and Congress officially certified Biden's victory afterwards, the far-reaching implications of the incident may not be controllable.

Obviously, the incident cannot be simply seen as a farce incited by Trump with his personal influence after losing the election. Nor can we easily jump to the conclusion that Biden's victory is a successful error correction or that the chaos caused by the election will end in two weeks.

The unprecedented mob in the Capitol, a symbol of the US system, is the result of the US society's severe division and the country's failure to control such division. Trump refused to admit defeat after losing the election, which resonated with a large number of his supporters. This has made many Republican senators dare not publicly oppose Trump's position. The Republican Party has been hesitating between whether to support the Constitution or defend its president.

Although it is unacceptable to storm the Capitol, which is a consensus in US politics and public opinion, the tear in the US is too deep. The abovementioned understanding is far from enough to alleviate the emotions of the defeated and their supporters. On the contrary, the act of storming the Capitol was denied and criticized, but the defeated side's repeated denials and attacks on the election results will leave a mark in the long run. It will pose a challenge to the authority of the Biden administration and weaken its motivating power.
...
The US needs to reform. Self-reformation is not just a requirement for developing countries. History will not end within Western systems. Signs are emerging around the world that the US and the West need to be as enterprising and inward-looking as the developing countries. The development of human society requires all countries to be humble and learn from each other's strong points. No one should regard exchanges between different cultures as a zero-sum game.

China holds a lot of US debt. Looking at China as an investor, they value stability over all else.

The other side of the coin is they are dictators, and want to rule the world, if they could.

The Balance: Who Owns the US National Debt?

The U.S. debt reached a new high of $27 trillion as of Oct. 1, 2020.1 Most headlines focus on how much the United States owes China, one of the largest foreign owners.
...
In July 2020, Japan owned $1.29 trillion in U.S. Treasuries, making it the largest foreign holder. The second-largest holder is China, which owns $1.07 trillion of U.S. debt. Both Japan and China want to keep the value of the dollar higher than the value of their currencies. That helps keep their exports to the United States affordable, which helps their economies grow.

Despite China's occasional threats to sell its holdings, both countries are happy to be America's biggest foreign bankers.

On a personal note, I had a nightmare where I was watching a news broadcast.

There was an accident between a US aircraft carrier and some other country's battleship near Port Said (Mediterranean Sea, north of the Suez Canal).

Trump used the incident as a justification to remain in power "till things got stable".

Oddly specific dream.

From the Russian mouthpiece. Like China, no celebration or gloating.

Of course there was a dig at the 2014 Ukraine "Revolution of Dignity". Only 34 percent of Ukrainians regarded the change in power as an "illegal armed coup"

RT: Russia says American system ‘archaic’ & not up to ‘modern democratic standards’ after rioters raid Washington’s Capitol building

The assault on the US Capitol by supporters of President Donald Trump lays bare fault lines in American democracy, Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said on Thursday, joining a chorus of countries in expressing concern.
Speaking to reporters, Maria Zakharova acknowledged that the events that unfolded on the steps of the country’s legislature the night before were an internal matter for Washington.

However, she said, they demonstrated that “the electoral system in the US is archaic and does not meet modern democratic standards, creating opportunities for numerous violations, and American media has become an instrument of political struggle.”

The foreign minister of Ukraine, a country that itself had a violent and unconstitutional transfer of power in 2014, expressed concern at the news, adding that “the rule of law & democratic procedures need to be restored as soon as possible. This is important not only for the US, but for Ukraine and the entire democratic world as well.”

Later on Thursday, the Chairman of Russia’s parliament, Vyacheslav Volodin, issued a statement in which he warned of a worsening political crisis in the US. “After the events that have followed the presidential election, viewing [America] as a model of democracy has become pointless,” he said.

According to him, the country’s “political system is not only closed but has been frozen in its development for about 70 years. The two parties have been monopolizing power for more than a century, preventing other political forces from governing the country.”

Reuters - Fact check: Men who stormed Capitol identified by Reuters are not undercover Antifa as posts claim

By Reuters Staff

Social media users have been sharing content online that suggests those who stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 were Antifa, not Trump supporters.

Many have been using compilations of pictures as purported evidence, but examination of these images shows they do not support this claim.

Meanwhile, the FBI has said there is “no indication at this time” that Antifa had played a role in the mob that stormed the Capitol. ...

The Washington Post - GOP’s Sasse: Some of the rioters ‘planned to kidnap and possibly assassinate the Vice President’

today

[Republican] Senator Ben Sasse released a strongly worded statement calling the pro-Trump rioters at the Capitol “terrorists” who sought to harm Vice President Pence.

The Nebraska Republican, who has been critical of Trump’s behavior since the election, warned that some will attempt to “whitewash” what happened Jan. 6 but that Americans must understand how grave the threat really was.

Every American needs to understand what the Department of Justice has just made public: Investigators have strong evidence to suggest that some of the rioters who stormed the United States Capitol planned to kidnap and possibly assassinate the Vice President,” Sasse said. “These men weren’t drunks who got rowdy - they were terrorists attacking this country’s constitutionally-mandated transfer of power.”

Sasse was referring to a court filing by federal prosecutors in Phoenix who wrote that there was “strong evidence … that the intent of the Capitol rioters was to capture and assassinate elected officials in the United States government.”

The mob came dangerously close to Pence, missing crossing paths with him by mere seconds, The Washington Post reported.

Some chanted “Hang Mike Pence,” and one man who got inside the Senate chamber left a note on the vice president’s desk that read in part, “It’s only a matter of time, justice is coming,” according to court filings. ...

The Washington Post - Pence calls Harris to congratulate her days before inauguration

today

Vice President Pence called Vice President-elect Kamala D. Harris to congratulate her Thursday, more than two months after she and President-elect Joe Biden won the November election and just five days before the new Democratic administration takes office.

President Trump plans to leave Washington on Wednesday morning before Biden is sworn in, according to a senior administration official.

Trump had previously announced he would not attend his successor’s inauguration at the U.S. Capitol, breaking with decades of tradition.

Some of you know Captain America's first comic book cover. Below the original and an artist's reimagination of it.
