Some retailers of protective equipment have seen a fivefold increase in sales of military-grade defensive gear, leading to empty shelves and waiting lists. A retailer in Oregon has sold out of decontamination wipes designed to remove chemical agents such as pepper spray. Customers cleaned out thousands of pieces of body armor from a store in Texas as soon as they went on sale.

Note that that's civilians, presumably mostly the Coup Klutz Klan, buying it up, not the government.

The brisk market for pardons reflects the access peddling that has defined Mr. Trump’s presidency as well as his unorthodox approach to exercising unchecked presidential clemency powers.

A security contractor has to carry 500 rounds of ammo on his car/truck? Yeah, sure.

Also on that same link there's the story of a woman arrested with a gun - this is from another article, on Washington Post:

In Washington, a valid security credential is needed to enter the sprawling and unprecedented security zone.

When she was stopped by police, the woman who was arrested Saturday presented what was identified as a military challenge coin, a pocket-size medallion that is typically given out by military commanders, Capitol Police said.

The woman, whose name was not released, said she was a law enforcement officer. But as she was being questioned, she drove off and was stopped shortly thereafter and placed under arrest, police said.

For those who know about military challenge coins - they are not identification.

Someone at Github got offended when a Jewish employee warned people to stay safe from Nazis during the Capitol coup. This was sent up to HR, who dismissed the Jewish employee.

The company hired an external consultancy to investigate the case, which led to the head of HR resignation and an apology to the employee.

The controversial firing came just two days after the employee warned colleagues in Washington DC to stay safe from Nazis — news first reported by Business Insider. He posted the message on January 6th, the day of the insurrection in Washington DC, as rioters associated with neo-Nazi organizations stormed the Capitol.

The warning sparked criticism from a colleague who took offense at the use of the word “Nazi” and prompted GitHub’s HR team to reprimand the Jewish employee. Two days later, he was fired.

In the wake of the termination, roughly 200 of GitHub’s 1,700 employees signed an open letter asking for clarity as to why the employee was let go. Workers also started using the word “Nazi” repeatedly in Slack, to describe the rioters in DC.

“Others have already said so, but I just want to say it explicitly myself - I think that nazis were present at some protests on Jan 6, and that it’s very scary to see those ideas on display,” wrote one engineer in Slack. “100% Nazis were there, and 1000000000% Nazis are scary as f*ck and do not belong anywhere. PARTICULARLY AT GitHub!” responded another.

In his note to employees this weekend, Friedman stressed that employees (which the company calls “hubbers”) are allowed to talk about their fears regarding white supremacists. “Hubbers are free to express concerns about neo-Nazis, antisemitism, white supremacy or any other form of discrimination or harassment,” he wrote. “And of course, we expect Hubbers to be respectful, professional, and to follow GitHub policies on discrimination and harassment at all times.”

The Github blog post came up this weekend. The message from the top is basically if it's a nazi, then there's no problem calling it a nazi.

On Friday, January 8th, GitHub separated with an employee. Later that day and over the weekend, employees raised concerns about the circumstances of the separation. We took these concerns seriously. On Monday, January 11th, we engaged an outside investigator to conduct an independent investigation. On the evening of Friday, January 15th, the investigation revealed significant errors of judgment and procedure. Our head of HR has taken personal accountability and resigned from GitHub yesterday morning, Saturday, January 16th.

In light of these findings, we immediately reversed the decision to separate with the employee and are in communication with his representative.

To the employee we wish to say publicly: we sincerely apologize.

Finally, there are several statements that our CEO Nat Friedman and I shared with our employees on Sunday, January 10th and Monday, January 11th last week, and which we also shared with the press earlier this week, that we wish to repeat again now:

It was appalling last week to watch a violent mob, including Nazis and white supremacists, attack the US Capitol. That these hateful ideologies were able to reach the sacred seat of our democratic republic in 2021 is sickening. The views that propelled this attack are morally abhorrent to me personally, and, I know, to our entire leadership team and company.
GitHub condemns the attack on the US Capitol on January 6th and any and all belief systems that are discriminatory. Antisemitism, neo-Nazis, and white supremacy – along with all other forms of racism – are vile and have no place in our community.
We do not and will not tolerate discrimination, harassment, or retaliation in any of its forms, period.
Employees are free to express concerns about Nazis, antisemitism, white supremacy or any other form of discrimination or harassment in internal discussions. We expect all employees to be respectful, professional, and follow GitHub policies on discrimination and harassment.
We are, and will continue to be, fiercely committed to providing both our employees and our community with a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment.

My message is that if you are offended when nazis are called nazis, that might make you a nazi.

They're also all pre-QAnon and similar. If you redid that survey now with today's conspiracy-theory lunacy you'd probably get 70% or more for Republicans on most of it.

I guess white supremists don't know the rules for "driving while black"

1. start recording audio on phone before the officer arrives if possible

2. Do whatever the officer says

3. Keep your hands where the police can see them at all times

4. Tell them when you're about to reach for anything, before you do it.

5. Politely repeat these questions until you are arrested, or you can leave.
