The Supreme Court upheld Trump's ban on trans-people in the military affecting many careers and people in training:

Sky News: Nic Talbott has dreamt of a career in the military for years. He enrolled in a training programme while at university and spent his weekends in camouflage crawling through mud, or strategising in mock battle scenarios. But a tweet by Donald Trump in July 2017 destroyed all of his plans. The president's tweet declared: "The United States Government will not accept or allow transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the US Military."

Reason? Some fake BS about less money than Trump spends on presidential golfing support. Biden has promised to reverse this and make related discrimination illegal.

Self pardon. A person isn't pardoned, just the offences. So he would have to admit guilt on the string of offences he wants to be pardoned for. He wont want to admit anything

The Washington Post - Pelosi calls for halt in efforts to install Trump loyalist Ellis as NSA’s top lawyer

breaking

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has demanded that acting defense secretary Christopher C. Miller immediately halt efforts to install Michael Ellis, a former GOP operative, as the lead lawyer for the National Security Administration.

In a letter to Miller sent late Sunday, Pelosi questioned the timing of the move to place Ellis as the NSA’s general counsel, within 72 hours of the Biden-Harris administration taking over, as an attempt to “burrow” a Trump loyalist into a highly sensitive intelligence position.

Pelosi also accused Ellis of having been selected over much more qualified candidates and of having been involved in “disqualifying” activities, including shielding information about Trump’s July 2019 call with the president of Ukraine. ...

Trumpers are all like "Russia meddling in our elections is all a hoax".

Next minute: "According to court documents, Williams' supposed ex (identified as W1) contacted an FBI tipline and said she intended to send the laptop "to a friend in Russia, who then planned to sell the device to SVR, Russia’s foreign intelligence service.”"

Apologies to those blocked by paywall, but this item is just included to illustrate my point and isn't really necessary to understand it. My point is that the weasels who invaded the Capitol keep trying to make excuses for their presence there ('I wasn't part of the mob, but got pushed in by the crowd behind me').

Some, of course, do admit to what they were doing there, and even wear it with pride. But others, like that real estate agent with the private plane, and loud-mouthed Otero County, N.M., Commissioner Couy Griffin, do not even have the courage of their convictions, and try to slither away from responsibility for their actions. Along with all their other character flaws, these people are dishonest cowards, glad to howl for the blood of others only when they think they can do so without consequences. As the WP item states, 'Griffin, the head of a group called Cowboys for Trump, claims he got caught up with the crowd and didn’t actually enter the building, but the affidavit says video on his personal Facebook page showed him in restricted areas.'

In other words, he is a coward as well as a slimeball, vying for attention to serve his political career, but unwilling to actually put himself on the line for that. The thing about extreme right-wingers, is they don't seem to have much character. Take away their ridiculous military-style weapons, and all that remains is oversized bellies and excess facial hair.

The Washington Post - The Trump presidency was marked by battles over truth itself. Those aren’t over.

today

President Trump stands as a singular figure in American history for his willingness to entertain conspiracy theories from the Oval Office, and none has been more damaging or far reaching than his unsubstantiated claim that the 2020 election was rigged against him.

One out of every three Americans believes that there was widespread fraud in the last presidential election, according to a recent Washington Post-ABC News poll, despite no evidence to support that view.

Two in three Republicans believe so. ...

What’s unique about Donald Trump is that he took advantage of this widespread distrust of government and media to say everyone is lying to you except for me. We have never had a president so devoted to spreading disinformation and trying to overturn an election,” said Kathryn Olmsted, a historian at the University of California at Davis.

The people who stormed the Capitol are absolutely convinced that the election was stolen. They’re not being opportunistic; they really believe this. And all of the social science shows that if someone really believes a conspiracy theory, it is just about impossible to change their minds.” ...

The Guardian - Trump to hold early morning sendoff ceremony on Biden inauguration day

updated today

Donald Trump is planning an early morning send-off event for himself at a military airfield in Maryland on Wednesday several hours before his successor, Joe Biden, is inaugurated ...

For his last presidential ceremony, Trump reportedly wants an ostentatious military parade and an official armed forces farewell as the commander-in-chief, as well as a large crowd of supporters, selected backers and current and former officials in his administration and their guests at a huge red-carpet affair.

But latest reports indicate that Trump will not be afforded a big military send-off ...

Invitations have been issued from the White House for an event taking place at Joint Base Andrews, the military base in Maryland used by Air Force One, at 8am on Wednesday – four hours before Biden will take his oath.

Many details of the ceremony are not yet clear, although attendees will have to make a pre-dawn start and have been told to arrive by 7.15am, when temperatures are forecast to be below freezing.

Attendees may not bring items including firearms, ammunition, explosives, laser pointers or toy guns. ...

Note throughout the US, gun sales (and COVID) have gone through the roof, with many having lines to enter the store.

"Donald Trump balloon: Baby blimp acquired by Museum of London"

The Donald Trump baby blimp, which flew over Parliament Square during the US president's visit to the UK, has found a new home.

The Museum of London has bought it so it can rest in its protest collection.

The 6m-high (19.7ft) inflatable, blimp was flown over Parliament Square during the US President's working visit to the UK in July 2018.

The Museum of London said the blimp was an "extraordinary and imaginative idea" and a "response from Londoners".

The huge inflatable depicts the US president wearing a nappy and clutching a mobile phone.

Following a global tour it will now be conserved by the museum and could go on display in the future.

New Parler Video Shows Tense Confrontation Between Rioters and Capitol Police Officer Eugene Goodman

ProPublica

Shortly after the Jan. 6 riots at the Capitol, a video of a Black police officer luring a mob away from Senate chambers went viral. ProPublica found a new vantage point of the same event from a trove of footage uploaded to the now-shuttered Parler app.

"Hundreds of writers and book agents sign joint letter demanding publishing industry bans Trump memoir"

Editors, publishing agents and authors have signed-up to a letter in the hundreds, demanding the industry deny Donald Trump the publication of any post-presidential memoir.

The letter, titled "No Book Deals for Traitors,” was signed by more than 250 editors, authors and publishing agents last week.

Together, they oppose any Trump administration official from publishing a future book - including the outgoing president, who is rumoured to be considering a memoir.

Barry Lyga, a novelist who organised the letter, wrote that "As members of the writing and publishing community of the United States, we affirm that participation in the administration of Donald Trump must be considered a uniquely mitigating criterion for publishing houses when considering book deals.”

He continued: “No participant in an administration that caged children, performed involuntary surgeries on captive women, and scoffed at science as millions were infected with a deadly virus should be enriched by the almost rote largesse of a big book deal.”
