Tinkerisk: Who's Trump?

A failed American businessman, known only for his accidental discovery of Trumpism, a method of demagogic non-goverment that uses social media to encourage the poorly educated and misinformed (currently, in America, around half the population) to employ violence, racism and mob rule to achieve their (largely undefined) ends.

Come to think of it, I don't think Trump knew what he wanted to achieve as President either.

Has he actually done anything good?

1. Trump was not expecting to win the Presidential race - it was all a publicity stunt that went terribly wrong. (see below)

He didn't want to achieve anything - except personal wealth and self-glorification.

2. No.

BIDEN SIGNS MILE-LONG EXECUTIVE ORDER REVERSING EVERYTHING TRUMP DID

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—In what aides are calling an amazing time-saving measure, President Biden signed a mile-long executive order reversing everything Donald J. Trump did.

“I kept signing executive order after executive order, and after a certain point I just said, ‘Hey,there's gotta be a better way to do this,’ ” said the President.

Approximately fifteen football fields in length, the executive order is believed to be the longest in the history of such documents.

After Biden signed the directive, it was rolled onto a newsprint spool, loaded onto a flatbed truck, and deposited at the Smithsonian Institution, where it will go on permanent display.

Explaining how the language of the executive order was crafted, Biden’s chief of staff, Ron Klain, said, “We listed everything Trump did in alphabetical order and then added the word ‘not.’ ”

Yes, but only inadvertently.

His actions caused American voters to elect a proper President.

The Washington Post - The 5-Minute Fix: Day 4:

today

Friday’s impeachment news in one sentence: Both sides want this thing finished, and it almost certainly will be by tomorrow.

After former president Donald Trump’s legal team presented its defense in just a few hours, the Senate asked questions of both sides, setting up a Saturday vote on convicting or acquitting him.

Republicans want to move on because most, according to a Washington Post analysis, have already signaled that they oppose convicting Trump.  ...

And Democrats want to move on because the impeachment trial has largely ground their agenda to a halt. ...

Impeachment trial is live on several YouTube channels. I caught a few minutes of the defence today. It was very competent imo.

I have not seen much of the prosecution. The best chance at this is presenting the very good evidence that Trump attempted various illegal, corrupt threats and instructions to election count and certification officials to influence the election. That is 100% certain.

The evidence for Trump intending to stop the functioning of the other two branches of government Congress and Senate by instigating a mob is mainly circumstantial. It's entirely clear that Trump did not give a [proverbial] during the events, and was certainly instigating - the evidence for insurrection intent on this part is not so clear.

The process feels weak in the sense that there is no nominated prosecutor with a strategy and calling evidence to support it. Am I wrong or do I just need a longer attention span?

If you haven't followed the prosecution, you should go back and watch it all on YouTube. It is an unparalled example of cogent eloquence and gripping gut-punching drama from politicians (one in particular) with unequalled verbal skill. It will go down in history and be replayed before classes of aspiring attorneys for years to come. Even the other side have taken off their hats to it. No-one is even trying to pretend that the defence has a case against this. The only thing that will save Trump's butt, if anything, is the craven partisan decision of Republicans in advance to not convict.

Is there any particular timeboxed part of the proceedings I can view for that? Four days of it could be a bit much.

or a video of the best bits..

I don't know. I watched the livestream. CNN or other news channels like MSNBC, CBS and ABC might have highlights. In any case try to find the opening remarks on the first day, but other parts are also well worth watching.

NY Times opinion: Trump’s Taste for Blood -- If Republicans won’t convict, bring on the handcuffs.

...The Democrats put on an excellent case, and they were right to impeach Trump. But if the Republicans won’t convict him, then bring on the criminal charges. Republicans say that’s how it should be done when someone is out of office, so let’s hope someone follows through on their suggestion.

A few days ago, prosecutors in Georgia opened an investigation into Trump’s efforts to overturn the election there. Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance could drag Trump into court on tax and fraud charges. Karl Racine, the attorney general for D.C., has said that Trump could be charged for his role in inciting the riot.

Maybe a man who gloated as his crowds screamed “Lock her up!” will find that jurors reach a similar conclusion about him.
