Maybe a man who gloated as his crowds screamed “Lock her up!” will find that jurors reach a similar conclusion about him.
We can only hope.

BBC News - Trump impeachment: Insurrection incitement charge a 'monstrous lie'
today
Donald Trump's insurrection incitement charge is a "monstrous lie", defence lawyers said as they presented evidence in the US Senate.
Lawyer Michael van der Veen called impeachment proceedings against the former president a "politically motivated witch hunt" by the Democrats.
Mr Trump is accused of causing riots in the Capitol on 6 January which left five people dead. He denies the charge. ...
Poor Donald. Always the victim ...

Rikkitic: I don't know. I watched the livestream. CNN or other news channels like MSNBC, CBS and ABC might have highlights. In any case try to find the opening remarks on the first day, but other parts are also well worth watching.
gzt:
At any point did the prosecution cover the sequence of events that resulted in a very light crowd control presence on the day? Ie; was this just an epic stuff-up or was there some involvement and direction from the executive level near Trump's office? Surely big protest crowds have occured previously at this location? This is a mystery to me so far.
Good question. I don't know. I watched a lot of it but not every minute. Capitol police leaders have lost their jobs over this very point, and it seems more epic stuff-up than anything intentional.

On an entirely different note, Congress in a rare act of unanimity has voted to award the congressional gold medal to black capitol cop Eugene Goodman for his courageous actions to protect members of congress from the Trump mob. Goodman joined the applause when other police were also mentioned. In addition to the award, he has also been promoted. It is good he has received the praise he so richly deserves, and his courageous actions, as well as those of other police, should be applauded here and everywhere else in the world. Unlike some of the craven Republicans he protected, he takes his job seriously and performs it with honesty, dignity and courage.

The Washington Post - Once impeachment is over, the threat to Trump shifts to real courtrooms
today
As the Senate trial judging Donald Trump’s second impeachment got underway on Tuesday, his lead defense attorney, Bruce Castor, offered an unexpected rationale for setting the impeachment aside.
“There is no opportunity where the president of the United States can run rampant in January at the end of his term and just go away scot-free,” Castor said. “The Department of Justice does know what to do with such people.”
After all, if the president had committed crimes, “after he’s out of office, you go and arrest him,” he said.
Reporting suggests that Trump, watching from Mar-a-Lago, wasn’t happy with Castor’s performance.
Given his attorney’s embrace of potentially having his client arrested, one can understand why. ...

If even Trump's own attorneys are calling for his arrest, you know something is up.

Either that, or his lawyers just aren't very good - that Castor guy seems to have no clue what he's doing.

He seems to talk a lot about nothing really.
Then again its not like they had much time to prepare for it though.
@Sideface, Him being arrested would be the best time magazine cover of the year. 😁

That's exactly the right thing to say to his target audience of Retrumplicans. He's not trying to get the Democrats to vote no, he's trying to make sure no Retrumplicans decide to vote yes.

The Washington Post - GOP Sens. Burr, Cassidy, Collins, Murkowski, Romney, Sasse and Toomey vote with Democrats to convict Trump
breaking
In a 57 to 43 vote, the Senate acquitted Trump of the charge of inciting an insurrection, concluding the former president’s second impeachment trial.
Seven GOP senators voted alongside all 50 Democrats on Saturday, but it fell short of the number of votes needed - two-thirds of the senators present - for Trump to be convicted.
GOP Sens. Richard Burr (N.C.), Cassidy (La.), Collins (Maine), Murkowski (Alaska), Romney (Utah), Sasse (Neb.) and Toomey (Pa.) were the Republicans who voted with Democrats.
Of those, Burr’s vote elicited the biggest reaction in the chamber by far, with gasps all around. Burr had not given any previous indication he was leaning toward convicting Trump.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) voted to acquit Trump.

Now the fun starts !
Roll on the civilian Federal and State courts ❗️
One way or the other this is going to cost him and his family a truck load of money, which is his most precious possession.
Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.
I guess they can drop 'honourable' from senator titles now.

After the vote:
I have just watched Mitch McConnell make an incendiary speech, highly critical of Trump - using harsh language.
Basically he states that Trump was as guilty as sin, but could not be impeached as a private citizen.
McConnell stressed that Trump is still liable for everything he did while in office, and is still subject to prosecution.
The Washington Post says:
Despite voting to acquit Trump, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) delivered a speech following the vote in which he decried a “disgraceful dereliction of duty” by Trump.
However, he also argued that the Senate did not have jurisdiction to try a former president.
