The New York Times - Putin authorized extensive election influence campaign, intelligence report says.

today

President Putin of Russia authorized extensive efforts to interfere in the American presidential election to denigrate the candidacy of Joseph R. Biden Jr., including intelligence operations to influence people close to former President Donald J. Trump, according to a declassified intelligence report released Tuesday.

The report did not name those people but seemed to be a reference to the work of Mr. Trump’s former personal lawyer Rudolph W. Giuliani, who relentlessly pushed allegations of corruption about Mr. Biden and his family involving Ukraine.

Russian state and proxy actors who all serve the Kremlin’s interests worked to affect U.S. public perceptions in a consistent manner,” the report said. ...

A companion report by the Departments of Justice and Homeland Security also rejected false allegations promoted by Mr. Trump’s allies in the weeks after the election that Venezuela or other foreign countries defrauded the election.

The reports, compiled by career officials, amounted to a repudiation of Mr. Trump, his allies and some of his top administration officials.

They categorically dismissed allegations of foreign-fed voter fraud, cast doubt on Republican accusations of Chinese intervention on behalf of Democrats and undermined the allegations that Mr. Trump and his allies spread about the Biden family’s work in Ukraine.

The report also found that there were no efforts by Russia or other countries to change ballots themselves, unlike in 2016. ...

Apart from that, the sky may be starting to fall in on Trump. Along with the investigations into his personal finances, There now seems to be an accounting starting up on many levels into possible abuses of office, process, and other acts of arrogance outside the law. An example is the appointment of Brett Cavanagh to the Supreme Court. It is emerging that the FBI 'investigation' into his character did not even go through the motions, but was purely a politically-driven whitewash job. This and many other violations of the justice system perpetrated by Trump and those acting for him were highlighted today by Rachel Maddow and will be featured in future programmes. It is to be hoped that under Merrick Garland justice finally will be done, but he has a big job ahead of him.

The New York Times - On the vaccine, Trump tells his hesitant supporters: ‘I would recommend it.’

today

Former President Donald J. Trump, in a nationally televised interview, recommended the Covid-19 vaccine to Americans who were reluctant to get it, including his supporters.

Mr. Trump and his wife, Melania, were vaccinated in secret in January.

Vaccine proponents have been calling on him to speak more forcefully in favor of the shots to his legions of supporters, many of whom remain reluctant, polls show.

Speaking to Maria Bartiromo on “Fox News Primetime” on Tuesday evening, Mr. Trump said, “I would recommend it, and I would recommend it to a lot of people that don’t want to get it, and a lot of those people voted for me frankly.”

He added: “It is a safe vaccine, and it is something that works.”

While there are degrees of opposition to vaccination for the coronavirus among a number of groups, including African-Americans and antivaccine activists, polling suggests that opinions are breaking substantially along partisan lines.

A third of Republicans said in a CBS News poll that they would not be vaccinated - compared with 10 percent of Democrats - and another 20 percent of Republicans said they were unsure.

Other polls have found similar trends.

First time I've heard of it. Seems pretty weird to do it in secret and not promote it.

Makes perfect sense, fully a third of his supporters don't believe in it, and a lot of what's left, possibly including Trump, see it as a sign of weakness - Trump the superman, who single-handedly defeated Covid when he had it - so it's something he'd want to hide.

BBC News - Donald Trump's wealth takes tumble during presidency

today

Donald Trump's net worth dropped by about $700m to $2.3bn during his time as president, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

The Covid-19 pandemic hit his fortunes hard, with Mr Trump's office buildings, branded hotels and resorts losing revenue and falling in value.

His fleet of planes and golf courses have also seen drops in their value.

Mr Trump is currently under a criminal investigation into his financial affairs and his family business. ...

Last month the Supreme Court ordered Mr Trump to hand over his tax returns and other financial records to prosecutors in New York. ...

PUTIN MISSES HIS FORMER EMPLOYEE

MOSCOW (The Borowitz Report)—In unusually emotional remarks at the Kremlin, the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, said that he “deeply missed” a former employee.

“I remember one time, when I told him that I didn’t meddle in the American election, and he immediately agreed with what I said,” Putin recalled. “I knew that I had found a very special employee.”

“Then there was the time a reporter asked if I was a killer, and he changed the subject,” he said. “I thought to myself, If only everyone who worked for me was so loyal.”

Putin acknowledged that dealing with his employee could sometimes be frustrating, “Sometimes the interpreter would have to translate my instructions into very short and simple words that Donny could understand,” but admitted that such inconveniences seemed trivial now.

“None of that outweighs the sheer comfort of knowing that he was always, always working for me,” Putin said, visible upset. “I do miss him so.”

Trump crowned? No faux King way!

ROFL: Texas museum removes wax Trump figure after visitors kept punching it

A wax museum in downtown San Antonio, Texas, removed its wax statue of former President Trump after it was repeatedly vandalized, the San Antonio Express-News reports.

Louis Tussaud's Waxworks pulled the figure from public view after it sustained multiple beatings, and transferred it into storage.

The scratches on the Trump figure's face were especially damaging, said Clay Stewart, the regional manager of parent company Ripley's Entertainment.
