It's like Trump complaining of Biden's interference in the 2020 elections when Trump himself was President.

Unsurprisingly, something along these lines actually happened after the 2020 election and before Biden was sworn in. Trump was complaining that Biden wasn't doing something about some situation (coronavirus, I think?)...even though Biden technically wasn't the president at that point 🙄

Amongst other things, I see Luxon telling them that the Labour government denied buyouts for flood-prone houses in Dunedin ... in May 2024.

Or MAGAs asking where Obama was during the 9/11 attacks - when G W Bush Jr was President.

Nah, it's more than likely a cock up rather than some nefarious plot. Hanlons razor is almost always the answer.

https://www.1news.co.nz/2024/10/19/maiki-sherman-poll-snapshots-paint-mixed-picture-for-parties/

Something I hope Luxon pays at least a little attention to here:

The latest 1News Verian poll shows 51% of people think Prime Minister Christopher Luxon is out of touch with voters, while 37% say he is in touch, and the rest weren’t sure or preferred not to say.

Luxon would have no doubt been disheartened by the result, even if only for a minute, before reminding himself to get on with the job ahead.

Being out of touch with a majority of voters is certainly not a performance review he wants by his name.

One of his go-to lines is that he is often out and about with “real New Zealanders” and that he understands their concerns and priorities, and yet these numbers suggest they don’t take the same view towards him.

When 1News hit the streets to gauge why it is many thought the Prime Minister may not be connecting with people, the reasons were clear.

One man said Luxon was running New Zealand like a company rather than a country. Others commented on his wealth persona, while another said it came down to the perception of his coalition partners having too much sway.

All valid criticisms, I feel.

John Key out weighs Luxon "wealth persona" by many margins. He made his money by finance trading in Hong Kong I believe. Luxon made his by being a CEO in top companies, which didnt, IIRC seem to work that well more often that not.

JK, like his party or his policies, or not, he did what he felt was best. Giving back. Luxon is just ticking boxes on his CV

JFC. These people have no respect. This "minister" should be sacked. No excuses. It's a lesson to the next one not to repeat this appalling behaviour.

Christopher Luxon says Andrew Bayly got it ‘horribly wrong’ in calling worker a ‘loser’ | Stuff

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon says National MP Andrew Bayly got it “horribly wrong” during an interaction that caused “hurt and insult” to a member of the public earlier this month.

Bayly apologised last Friday after a worker accused him of insulting behaviour during a business visit. The Government released the letter from the complainant on the same day.

In the letter, the worker alleged Bayly told him: “Take a bottle of wine and go home, go on, go home ... take some wine and f... off.”

The letter went on: “What followed next was both shocking and humiliating. He called me a ‘loser’ repeatedly, saying the reason I was still was work was because I am a ‘loser’.

“He turned to the group of people with him at the time, including my boss, the minister’s assistant and marketing staff, and ... employees and formed an ‘L’ with his fingers on his forehead.

Luxon said Bayly was “mortified” that he had left the worker feeling insulted, and Bayly had assured the prime minister that such an incident would not happen again.

Hipkins was talking about this today too: https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/political/531456/bayly-complaint-email-disappeared-from-labour-mp-s-inbox

Hipkins has also raised questions about the lack of consequences for Bayly's actions, saying a "demotion would certainly be in order".

"The standards that Christopher Luxon sets for ministers in his government are lower than the standards that he set when he was leader of the opposition, that he set for the previous government."...

"And he still hasn't explained to New Zealand workers exactly why it is he thinks working late makes someone a loser," Hipkins said.

He forgot to add 'Don't you know who I am' FTW

Luxon said Bayly was “mortified” that he had left the worker feeling insulted.

Sooo not mortified by his behavior, but that worker would be offended.
Luxon however not mortified at all it seems.
Gives an excuse for no censure of Bayly, as its not Bayly's action, but workers for feeling insulted ?

Move on, nothing to see here just servant/hired-help not knowing their place..

[Arena] Williams went on, asking "did he hold up the shape of an L on his forehead?" using her own hand to demonstrate.

"Again, yes I did, but again it was in the spirit of comments made in a light-hearted manner and that's why I've apologised unreservedly to the individual."

I wonder if Mr Bayly would still consider it "light-hearted" if I made an L shape on my forehead and directed it at him? I suspect not.

While not strictly about Luxon, this is still under the Government's umbrella:

https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/te-manu-korihi/531867/unbelievable-labour-s-willie-jackson-furious-over-prebble-s-waitangi-tribunal-role

I do remember Richard Prebble, surely there must have been someone else they could have chosen with more relevant experience, as Willie Jackson suggests?

I found this satirical take on the whole thing quite clever though: https://newsroom.co.nz/2024/10/26/the-secret-diary-of-political-appointments/

Former Act leader Richard Prebble

“Name?”

“Prebs.”

“Please take a seat, Mr Prebs.”

“I’m already sitting down.”

“Yes, but that’s a nice seat. Leather. Take it with you after I appoint you as a new member of the Waitangi Tribunal.”

“Wait – this is an interview process. Where is the robust questioning?”

“I asked you for your name, didn’t I? Anyway, congratulations! I look forward to your contributions in ensuring that the Treaty of Waitangi is interpreted and applied in a manner that reflects what it actually says, including the promise of the same rights and duties for all New Zealanders.”

“Thanks, David.”

I think it was a Stuff article rather than the one above, where Prebble is quoted as saying something along the lines of 'I have a rainbow of grandchildren and I look forward to them all being treated equally.' And I thought to myself, 'That's nice, but I doubt any of them live in a cardboard box in Ngāruawāhia.' No chance any of Richard Prebble's grandchildren will ever experience much other than a life of privilege. Much like Luxon himself, he gets it, he's rich, he's sorted.

That criteria would disqualify a significant number of people already on the Waitangi Tribunal, judging by the backgrounds on the website. Somewhat inevitable if you want a body that can draw on legal and governance expertise from its members.

OK, fair. But my main point is not about wealth, per se, but rather that Richard Prebble has no concept of equity.

The rules being absolutely the same for everyone does not mean everyone has the same chance to become Richard Prebble. That's the lesson of Monopoly. The rules are exactly the same for everyone, but it isn't really skill, it's the early dice rolls that determine which properties you get, and once you have the right ones your win is assured. Richard Prebble's grandchildren's win is assured no matter what the rules are, but the same is not true of the vast majority who can work their assess off their whole lives and still die in debt. This tendency is magnified for the Māori population, and he either can't or (given his libertarian ideology) won't see that.

In an ideal world the rules would be exactly the same for everyone, but most people have noticed we don't live in an ideal world.

ACT, National, NZF

The decline of the health system continues as Government cuts across the board bite.
If you can afford to fly somewhere else and pay for care you need its no problem.

We have seen this before with National, especially Southland, however National vote seems strong so they are getting what they want?

Cuts looming for 'critical' public health services
https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/530001/cuts-looming-for-critical-public-health-services

""
An internal document obtained by RNZ (which was presented to National Public Health Service staff at a meeting last week) showed job losses were likely, along with cuts to projects and contracts with community organisations.
""
The national public health director, Dr Nick Chamberlain, was "widely respected by staff", a staunch advocate for a clinical, evidence-led approach, and had overseen a service that delivered new programmes (including the HPV screening campaign and extended breast screening) on time and even under budget, the clinician said.
""

There are also other screening programs like for Bowel Cancer that have been difficult to get going, how that's going to work with less funding?.

The anti's, antivaxers, and everything is solvable with diluted bleach and such love this.
Wanting revenge for Covid measures.

No worry.
We can look forward to new stronger nicotine vaping product to take us past caring.

Australia and others are on the hunt for our qualified as well as police etc, its a competitive world too.
