Would be interesting if elected people were forced to subsist on the services they represent and not allowed to go private, they might change their tune then.
I'm a bit confused this week. The coalition are banning the display of gang patches because they might scare people, but Seymour doesn't want to ban the display of Swastikas because he likes knowing who the idiots are. Does this mean the gangs can all just switch to Swastikas?
I mean, I agree that it's nice to know who the idiots are, but I think there might be a case for saying that people who display Swastikas are also a little bit scary.

Up to 2000 people could lose jobs over school lunch changes

Of course these people contributing in their local communities don't get special secret passes as lobbyists into the Beehive.

"Our concern is not who the contract's been awarded to, our concern is around complete breach of a commitment given several times by the minister himself and by the ministry that the school lunch provision for year one to six kids would carry on by existing suppliers for the next two years."
A tender was put out in August for a school lunch contract excluding primary school lunches but when the tender was awarded it in fact did cover primary schools, Prendergast said.
There was no consultation and Trust House found out via the media of the Compass Group contract, he said.
Seymour, what a load of crap.

Speaking of "saving money" on school lunches:
I fail to see how trucking a school lunch from Hamilton all the way to Westport (why not from Christchurch or Nelson?) is going to save anything...when it could all be made locally (as the article mentions) and delivered to the schools for next-to-nothing? I know the geography of this region quite well, and Hamilton is a hell of a lot further from Westport than Karamea is!
Let's see. This is quiet, so let's stir up a bit.
What a timeline.
Any bets this bill will pass?
25 January 2024: Seymour says Luxon being 'open' over Treaty Principles Bill
At Rātana, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said the Government had "no plans to revise the Treaty of Waitangi" or treaty settlements.
Luxon has repeatedly said he has made it clear he had no commitment to support ACT's controversial bill beyond the first reading (which would send it to select committee), but has not completely ruled it out.
Speaking to Breakfast this morning, Seymour said he thinks Luxon is being "perfectly open and honest" with the public about the future of his coalition government's support of the bill.
"There is no commitment in either direction, to vote for the Treaty Principles Act after it's been written, introduced to Parliament, debated in Parliament and gone off for public submission, so that New Zealanders can have a say on what our constitutional document means for our future," he said.
He said: "After that, all bets are off."
"I believe that whether or not this thing goes any further will depend on how the public responds," he said. "And my view is that we've needed to have a real discussion about what these treaty principles mean because they're so important to New Zealand life, but they've been held back from any kind of parliamentary discussion for such a long time."
9 September 2024: Christopher Luxon refuses to speak about Treaty Principles Bill after it was handed to Cabinet | RNZ News
The prime minister has admitted he is yet to see the draft Treaty Principles Bill, despite promising National will back it through its first reading, but no further.
14 November 2024: Treaty Principles Bill: Speaker, Parliament brace for first debate as hīkoi and protests descend
Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has criticised the controversial Treaty Principles Bill ahead of its first reading today, calling the draft legislation “very simplistic”.
"Very simplistic", and yet it passed the first reading. What else can be said of an egg that stays on the top of the wall all the time, about everything, while the "partners" jerk him around?

The Treaty Bill
It probably serves its purpose to keep conflict and outrage generation going to poison the well.
ACT then benefits from growing its base by making this seem to be worse and amping it up.
Just keep picking at this sore as it becomes more cancerous.
Unfortunately when it comes to 'culture war' stuff people will ignore the boring things like having a health system etc.
Indeed if your life gets worse due to poor Government services and regulatory protection of your working and living conditions.
ACT can still benefit by redirecting your anger at your situation at the 'other'.

Surprising that Brian Tamaki wasn't more behind it, I mean, he is Maori himself, is he not?
Having said that - this protest of his, to only get the NZ flag flown and banning all others, I thought was quite pathetic. Maybe he fancies himself as a wannabe dictator...who never wins? (see: 2023 election)

It looks like he is trying to imitate Trump. Don't laugh. It is only a joke until it isn't.

I agree with you and I'm quite sure that he is - as indicated in one of the images from his pathetic "convoy" 🙄
Christianity should be “our state religion”, Tamaki said.
”I would like for the Government to declare that Christianity is our state religion. We have to define who we are and what we believe. (edited)
“And the day they do that, they’re going to see our country begin to rise again.”
But what if I'm not religious? Shouldn't I be free to not follow a religion, or follow another religion? Or is it only "freedoms" the idiot agrees with? Aha.
I hope Luxon does the right thing and completely ignores this nonsense - like the majority of the population (rightly) will.
Seymour came out for a few minutes surrounded by his minders only to have 20,000 people yell 'Kill the Bill!' at him, and he went back inside a couple of minutes later. I thought he wanted a conversation?
Edit - apparently the police are estimating 35K.

Seymour, just considering baiting the crowd and if Police are ready to rescue him in time.
If you want to talk about Government wasting time and $$$.
How much does the Parliamentary time spent on this, that is destined to go now where cost.
Police in policing this up and down the country.
ACTs Parliamentary staff producing all that goes around presenting a bill, time on speech writing etc.
Everyone else in Parliament dragged into this process with staff, Parliamentary Admin and all at $$ per hour costs.
Its a lot of people on well above minimum wage.
So we have $$$, and time on an entirely non productive pursuit.
By ACT who is so 'holier than thou' about Government waste.
It does however burn up Parliament's time till Christmas lacking any productive ideas to fill the gap it seems.

HelloThere: Election 2026
Luxon - Seymour, mate. I need your support to get back into Government.
Seymour - Support my Treaty bill through to the end.
Luxon - I can't do that.
Seymour - See ya later.
This bill will make for an interesting election if Luxon doesn't support it before then.
Luxon - well, if you're gonna be a d*ck about it, I'll run a candidate in Epsom, maybe even myself.
