Trump is disintegrating mentally. This could be bad in the short term, but it could also be hopeful in the longer one. As he descends further into madness, supporters who have not completely lost their own grip on reality will find it harder to stick with him. At some point his ravings will put more people off than they will attract and the whole house of cards will come tumbling down. Think of the fall of communism. It seemed invincible until it started falling apart. Then it went very quickly. I expect something similar with the Republicans.

The trouble is the damage he inflicted will not be undone. I feel we are also seeing the rise of the next generation who were inspired by him. His supporters will move on from him on to the next politicians who are trying to court those votes. We are seeing it already with the likes of Matt Gaetz, Lauren Boebert etc.

Trump is a phenomenon but others who try to follow his example tend to implode. Also, Gaetz may have other problems on his mind soon.

What about her? She is a lightning rod. Like Gaetz, she has a loud mouth and not much else. The knuckle-draggers like her because she says inappropriate things. The party establishment tolerates her because the knuckle-draggers throw money at her. She has the same appeal as a pole dancer. It will fade.

She's from Georgia's 14th congressional district of neckbeards, where Democrats don't normally bother putting up a candidate because its a slaughter. They tried against her and got 25% :/

This is a CNN opinion article. There's not much in it.

Btw, apparently his mate and big donor the My Pillow guy came up with the August date thing and Trump is running with it. Trump is just as sane as he was in office imo.

I think there is a lot in it. Trump's election fraud claims started from an inability to accept defeat, but not an inability to see reality. But once he started saying it, he started believing it. He did that with other things as well. He was slipping while in office, but not quite insane in my opinion. Now he has tipped over the edge. He actually believes he will overturn the election result. That won't happen. Even if the crazies were able to start a revolution and install him as dictator (not gonna happen!), that wouldn't be overturning the election result, just staging a violent coup.

Trump has lost his grip on reality. He is a lot like Hitler in the bunker, commanding imaginary armies. He will end a lot like Hitler, too.

Trump has proven time and time again he can say anything he wants and his supporters, and most of the GOP, will stand behind him. If I had a dollar for every time someone said "this is the beginning of the end for Trump"...

National Review - Maggie Haberman Is Right

Donald Trump really does believe that he, along with two former GOP senators, will be ‘reinstated’ to office this summer.

03 June 2021

Two days ago, the New York Times’s Maggie Haberman reported that Donald Trump “has been telling a number of people he’s in contact with that he expects he will get reinstated by August.” In response, many figures on the right inserted their fingers into their ears and started screaming about fake news.

Instead, they should have listened - because Haberman’s reporting was correct.

I can attest, from speaking to an array of different sources, that Donald Trump does indeed believe quite genuinely that he - along with former senators David Perdue and Martha McSally - will be “reinstated” to office this summer after “audits” of the 2020 elections in Arizona, Georgia, and a handful of other states have been completed.

I can attest, too, that Trump is trying hard to recruit journalists, politicians, and other influential figures to promulgate this belief - not as a fundraising tool or an infantile bit of trolling or a trial balloon, but as a fact. ...

... The scale of Trump’s delusion is quite startling.

This is not merely an eccentric interpretation of the facts or an interesting foible, nor is it an irrelevant example of anguished post-presidency chatter.

It is a rejection of reality, a rejection of law, and, ultimately, a rejection of the entire system of American government. ...

The Washington Post - Trump is suspended from Facebook for 2 years and can’t return until ‘risk to public safety is receded’

today

Facebook said Friday that it plans to suspend former president Donald Trump for two years following his comments inciting violence in the wake of the Capitol insurrection on Jan. 6.

The social media giant will reinstate him only if “the risk to public safety has receded,” according to a blog post on the company’s website.

Facebook’s new policy refers specifically to the behavior of public figures during periods of heightened violence or unrest, according to the blog post.

Facebook says it will now initiate a series of time-bound suspensions for violators, starting with a one-month suspension, and look to experts to help reevaluate the situation at the end of each period.

The announcement, part of a set of responses to the Facebook Oversight Board’s recommendations in May regarding its suspension of the former president, is likely to have major implications for how the platform treats controversial public figures going forward. ...

... Trump said in an emailed statement the ruling was an insult to the people who voted for him last year.

Facebook “shouldn’t be allowed to get away with this censoring and silencing, and ultimately, we will win,” he added. “Our Country can’t take this abuse anymore!

Do you mean he is going to shoot Melania and then himself and have their bodies burnt in the car park at Mar-a-Lago?
