I read somewhere that Trumps lawyers actually take their own lawyers along. They got sick of Trump changing what he said, and also being shafted on the bill.

Trump is the kind of guy that its cash up front, or you don't do business with him.

NY Times: Trump organization strips Chief Financial Officer Weisselberg of roles after indictment

The removal of Allen Weisselberg from dozens of subsidiaries could signal a looming shake-up in former President Donald Trump’s family business.

A week after state prosecutors in Manhattan indicted Donald J. Trump’s family business and its chief financial officer, Allen H. Weisselberg, the company began removing Mr. Weisselberg from every leadership position he held atop dozens of its subsidiaries, according to a person with knowledge of the matter.

The move could be a potential precursor to a wider shake-up at the former president’s company, the Trump Organization, as the reality of the indictment takes hold for Mr. Trump and his senior executives. While Mr. Weisselberg continues to work at the Trump Organization, and there is no indication that Mr. Trump wants to cut ties with him, the company might seek to move him into a lower-profile role.

The Trump Organization set the change in motion last week as it began to erase Mr. Weisselberg’s name from subsidiaries or corporate entities affiliated with him, the person with knowledge of the matter said, and public records on Monday reflected that he was no longer linked to at least 20 Trump companies incorporated in Florida. As the records are processed in other states in the coming days and weeks, the full scope of his removal will come into focus.

The decision to remove Mr. Weisselberg, who has faced mounting pressure from prosecutors to turn on Mr. Trump and cooperate with the investigation, represents the latest fallout from the criminal tax charges unveiled on July 1 against him and the Trump Organization.

The indictment outlined what prosecutors described as a 15-year scheme to pay Mr. Weisselberg and other employees through off-the-books perks and bonuses. That enabled Mr. Weisselberg to evade nearly $1 million in federal, state and local taxes, prosecutors said.

Politico: Trump Organization faces potential business risk over indictments

Experts say that lenders could pull financing or demand loan repayment as legal charges swirl around the company.

Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance’s criminal charges against the Trump Organization don’t just create legal jeopardy for the former president’s company. They also could damage its business interests — regardless of whether or not a jury ultimately finds the company guilty.

Multiple experts on white-collar crime told POLITICO that it’s unclear how exactly Thursday’s legal developments will impact the company. But they agree that the charges — alleging conspiracy, grand larceny and tax crimes — could bring serious risk to the Trump Organization’s future.

“Depending on the charges, the mere fact of a criminal indictment could potentially devastate a business, even before trial,” said Murad Hussain, a partner in Arnold & Porter’s white-collar defense practice. “Beyond the adverse publicity, an indictment might trigger a lender’s rights to call outstanding loans, or give a government agency grounds to suspend a business license or the ability to participate in public programs. This isn’t always guaranteed to happen, but if it does, it’s an uphill battle to undo the damage.”

One of the biggest risks involves the company’s debt — and the Trump Organization’s debts are reportedly immense. A Forbes investigation published in October 2020 calculated that Trump owes his creditors at least $1 billion.

“Even if they are ultimately acquitted, they’re going to have to spend a lot of time and money on their defense,” she told POLITICO. “And if they are convicted it could mean substantial fines that could make them less able to repay loans.”

The latest effort to hold former president Donald Trump and his allies accountable for months of baseless claims about the 2020 election played out Monday in a Michigan courtroom, where a federal judge asked detailed and skeptical questions of several lawyers she is considering imposing sanctions against for filing a suit seeking to overturn the results.

U.S. District Court Judge Linda V. Parker said she would rule on a request to discipline the lawyers in coming weeks.

But over and over again during the more than five-hour hearing, she pointedly pressed the lawyers involved - including Trump allies Sidney Powell and L. Lin Wood - to explain what steps they had taken to ensure their court filings in the case filed last year had been accurate.

She appeared astonished by many of their answers.

While their suit aimed to create a broad impression that the vote in Michigan had been troubled*, the affidavits filed to support those claims included obvious errors, speculation and basic misunderstandings of how elections are generally conducted in the state, Parker said. ...
