kingdragonfly: minimum 30 days if convicted. Excellent

Pointless. He'll wear it as a badge of honour, "I served a slap-on-the-wrist token sentence out of loyalty to El Presidente".

It needs to be handled like ordinary contempt-of-court where you're locked up until you decide to stop being in contempt.

The bad news is this is an indictment, and not a conviction. So he will have the “run out the clock” strategy where he can keep appealing things, and try to do so for a year.

However if convicted of both counts, it could be two years since it's two counts.

Minimum is one month if run concurrently

Showing no remorse usually means the maximum, again if convicted.

Who knew being a "fixer" for an con artist would end badly? Another lawyer screwed by Trump.

Still it's a pity the judge admitted Trump broke the law, and again got away without consequences.

Reuters: Trump Organization does not have to pay Michael Cohen's legal bills -judge

The Trump Organization does not need to pay millions of dollars in legal bills for Trump's former fixer and attorney Michael Cohen, a New York judge decided on Friday.

Michael Cohen had sued the Trump Organization for failing to make good on a promise to pay legal costs resulting from his work.

..."In a nutshell, Mr. Cohen's legal fees arise out of his (sometimes unlawful) service to Mr. Trump personally, to Mr. Trump's campaign, and to the Trump Foundation, but not out of his service to the business of the Trump Organization," the judge wrote.

A recent survey released by the Public Policy Research Institute (PPRI) and the Brookings Institution found 70% of Republicans say that American culture and way of life was better in the 1950s.

Only 27% of Democrats agree.

Republicans who are members of white Christian religious groups really want to return to the 50's.

Sorry for the PDF.

https://www.prri.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/PRRI-Oct-2021-AVS.pdf

...Has American Culture Changed for Better or for Worse Since the 1950s?

Americans are divided on whether American culture and way of life have mostly changed for the better or for the worse since the 1950s (47% vs. 52%).

This is a notable shift from 2020, the final year of Donald Trump’s presidency and an election year, when a majority of Americans (55%) said that American culture and way of life had mostly changed for the better since the 1950s, compared to 44% who said it had changed for the worse.

Only 29% of Republicans today say that American culture and way of life have changed for the better since the 1950s, a substantial decrease from 46% in 2020 and a return to their opinion in 2016 (31%), prior to the election of former President Trump.

Most Republicans (70%) say American culture and way of life have changed for the worse since the 1950s.
...
By contrast, a majority of Democrats (63%) think that American culture and way of life have changed for the better, much the same as in 2020 (62%). Independents closely resemble the general population (48% better) and have also declined in this view since 2020 (57% better).

White Christian religious groups also show a considerable decline in the proportion who say American culture and way of life has changed for the better since the 1950s compared to 2020,but like Republicans, they have generally returned to views reminiscent of those they held in 2016, prior to Trump’s election as president. White evangelical Protestants (30% today, 43% in 2020), white Catholics (40% today, 53% in 2020), and white mainline (non-evangelical) Protestants

In a recent interview, Trump defended the Jan. 6 rioters chanting “Hang Mike Pence” on the grounds that “it’s common sense” that Pence should have overturned the Electoral College count.*

In the interview, Trump claimed that “50/50, it’s right down the middle for the top constitutional scholars when I speak to them” on the vice president’s authority to unilaterally throw out election results.

Of course the vice president has no constitutional authority to reject electoral votes he doesn’t like.

Dunno about the American culture but Kiwi culture was better in the 50's. We had no social media, no toy phones, crap TV so most kids spent more time outside in the fresh air, and prizes went only to winners. Oh, and in my entire high school, there was just one guy who was overweight. And doctors made house calls. And kids were better behaved, mostly because they were better brought up. And...

Ok, your turn :-)

"Top Constitutional Scholars" consists essentially of this moron, who (somehow) tried to sell to Pence he could just "throw out" the votes of 7 states and let the (then-Republican-controlled) House decide who the President was, as Trump didn't like the fact he lost those 7 states:

Fortunately, he is no longer teaching (as I mentioned a few pages back).

Actually, no TV. Television didn't start in NZ until the 1960's. Radio was quite popular though.

TV aside, whether the 50's were better or not probably depended on whether you were gay/trans/transvestite, disabled, black, Hindu, or many other things that today are largely accepted and taken for granted. I grew up in the 50's (not here, admittedly), and it was a stifling, narrow-minded, conservative time. Of course some things were pleasant if you didn't threaten anyone by deviating from the accepted norm, but it was for the most part a time that demanded mindless conformity and severely ostracised those who couldn't help being different. Elvis and rock and roll aside, it is not a period I yearn to see again.
